Mercury Drifthook:
Digital Drift Control for Anglers

Mercury Drifthook
Mercury's Drifthook feature allows fishermen to control their boats' heading while drift fishing with no input from the captain once the heading is set.

Mercury's new "Drifthook" downloadable feature allows anglers to keep their boats' heading while drifting with wind or current, thus preventing line tangles. The program operates via Mercury's VesselView and Joystick systems, kicking the motors in and out of gear as needed to maintain heading without moving the boat significantly off its drift-line. It should be especially useful when drifting live baits from kites or when fishing short-handed. More...

Good things often come in small packages. Consider the four sportboats in this week's comparison: All are among the lowest-priced boats in their size range yet each one is from a recognized “name” brand. Each one has the performance it takes to keep younger boaters interested and to remind older boaters that age is just a number. But, since they are “value-oriented” models, the trick is to find the boat which has not skimped on the very thing you want to have. Each builder has taken a slightly different approach to creating an affordable boat. Find out what they are. More...

How to Drive a Fast Boat Safely
After a long absence, Baja boats are now back in production and they go faster than ever. Find out how to handle them.

Handling a fast boat is not like driving a fast car -- boats are far more complicated. Not only do you often have two engines instead of one, but also engine trim and trim tab adjustments. But once the art of driving a fast boat is mastered, many thrills await the intrepid few who dare. Find out how to drive a fast boat -- and do it safely. More...
