Children Rescued From Sinking Vessel

The U.S. Coast Guard on Aug. 24 rescued five people including four children from a vessel taking on water about 70 miles off the coast of Ocean City, MD.

The Coast Guard received a call reporting that the fishing boat “Hot Catch” was quickly taking on water. Help came from several different directions as an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter rescue crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., and a HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter rescue crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., were deployed and headed toward the boat.

Boat Makes It Back to Port
Both air-rescue crews arrived on the scene a short time later and the Jayhawk helicopter crew hoisted the five people into the chopper. Four other crewmembers were able to remain on board safely after the flooding problem was identified and brought under control. The boat made it safely back to port at the Canyon Club Marina in Cape May, N.J.
