At 46’10” (14.3 m) LOA, the Leader 46 is the flagship of Jeanneau’s powerboat fleet. She’s designed as a continuation of the Leader 40 with the aft deck, salon and lower helm on the same level, which creates a larger feel for this size boat.
Below decks, she features a full-width master stateroom at amidships and a spacious VIP cabin in the bow. Owners can add a third cabin if they need the extra sleeping capacity. For versatility, the Leader 46 can be powered by twin Volvo Penta diesel sterndrives or by IPS pods.
On the bow, she comes standard with an electric windlass, stainless steel anchor roller and pulpit. For passengers who like to stretch out while tanning, owners can get an optional foredeck sun pad with backrests that raise to form chaise-style lounges.
Crew members can head aft on walkways on each side of the Leader 46’s pilothouse. Her swim platform has enough depth fore to aft for a tender and there’s a stainless-steel boarding ladder to port. The boat also comes standard with a hot and cold freshwater shower on the aft deck. From the stern, there’s access to a tender garage that opens manually on a pair of gas struts.
The Aft Deck.
Stairs on each side lead from the swim platform to the Leader 46’s aft deck. There are stainless-steel gates to close off the passageways. Jeanneau’s cockpit galley comes standard with a freshwater sink and storage. An electric grill, a 1.5 cu. ft. (42 L) refrigerator and an icemaker are all available options.
The forward of the galley features an aft facing bench seat and there is a passage between the two. The Leader 46 comes standard with an aft-facing chaise-style lounge.
In the standard layout, the Leader 46 has open passage from the aft deck to the helm. Owners can opt for the aft cockpit glass door and window or have an open coupe. A passageway to starboard leads to a large seating area. To port, a lounge wraps around a wood table. To starboard, there’s a smaller lounge.
To port adjacent to the helm, there’s a forward-facing bench that converts to a sheltered sun lounge. The helm has a two-person seat with the steering wheel positioned to starboard. The Leader 46 comes standard with trim tabs, a compass and VHF radio. Among the available options are a bow thruster and a 12” Raymarine e127 GPS/chartplotter.
Stairs centrally located between the helm and the forward port lounge lead below decks. To port is the Leader 46’s salon. The horseshoe-shaped lounge has storage in the base and seating for four or five around the varnished table.
Across to starboard, the galley has a stainless steel sink, a cooktop and a 3.2-cu. ft. (90-L) refrigerator. A microwave oven and dishwasher are available options. An opening port provides ventilation and there’s storage beneath hatches in the sole.
At the base of the helm deck stairs, a door opens to the aft master stateroom. The berth is positioned fore to aft and slightly offset to starboard. There’s a hanging locker to port forward of the en suite head, plus additional drawer storage. A 24” TV is an available option.
Bow VIP Stateroom.
At the forward end of the salon is the entry to the bow cabin, which has scissor-style single berths that pull together to accommodate a couple. There’s also a full-hanging locker and private access to the head that also has an entry from the salon.
Master and VIP Heads.
The master head on the Leader 46 has a vanity with a sink and mirror outboard to port. While there are separate compartments for the shower and electric freshwater toilet in the master head, the forward VIP head has a shower stall in the same space as the toilet. Each head has an opening port and storage.
Power and Propulsion.
We haven’t tested the Jeanneau Leader 46 so we do not have her performance numbers. Jeanneau offers three power choices: Twin Volvo Penta D6-370, D6-400 sterndrives, or twin IPS600 pod systems. All engine packages come with Volvo Penta’s joystick docking system.
The electrical system includes a 7.5-kW diesel generator. There are three batteries and a charger, plus a 220-volt shore power plug. There are 12-volt power plugs and 220-volt outlets.

Options to Consider
The Leader 46 is aptly named because she is the flagship of all of Jeanneau’s powerboats. She has a practical feel with the tender garage, cockpit galley and the convertible seating areas on the aft deck and across from the helm.
For a 46’10” (14.3 m) boat, she has a good amount of seating space, especially in the cockpit, which has two lounge areas. Below decks, the salon has a good amount of headroom and a separate shower stall in the owner’s cabin.
Possibly the most important thing about the Jeanneau Leader 46 is her exterior styling. She is not euro-looking nor does she look like a sportboat on steroids. Rather, to our eye, she reminds us of a serious cabin cruiser that is functional, nautical and will be in style for decades.
