10-Year Coverage on All

Evinrude E-TEC Engines

10-Year Coverage
From now until March 31, 2017, Evinrude is offering a promotional “boat show season” extended coverage the likes of which we have never before seen.

Recently, Evinrude announced the most remarkable outboard engine coverage we have ever seen: 10 years on all Evinrude E-TEC engines from the 15 H.O. to the 300. There is nothing more important on any boat than the engine. Should any problems arise with the engine, not having to worry about the financial consequences takes a tremendous burden off of any boat owner. It also speaks to Evinrude’s faith in the reliability of its engines. The company has quite literally put its money where its mouth is. Talk is cheap, extended coverage is not, and as the company points out in its ads for this promotion, if purchased, extending coverage an additional 7 years on top of the standard 3 year warranty would have a retail cost of up to $7,500, depending on the size of the engine. This is a special “boat show season” promotion and will end on March 31, 2017.

Some people would rather get wet on a wakeboard or surfboard than ride, dry and secure, in the cockpit. For them, boating is all about activity, and that's what this week's sextet of boats is about, too. Each can be rigged for serious watersports, with multiple ballast tanks to control the wake, a tower to elevate the towline (required for wakeboard acrobatics), twin waterjets that provide plenty of power, and no propeller to pose a risk to swimmers. Add cool sound systems and lots of plush seating for apres-boarding, and the result is a sportboat for folks who enjoy life both wet and dry.

Regal 22 FasDeck ESX:

Sportboat Style, Deckboat Space

Regal 22 FasDeck ESX

Mercury Verado 250 HP:

Supercharged Powerhouse

Mercury Verado 250 HP
The inline 6-cylinder design of the Mercury Verado 250 HP engine allows a sleek profile that lends itself to easy dual or triple engine installations.

The inline-6 Mercury Verado 250-hp engine is a supercharged outboard, which gives it robust low-end torque for snappy acceleration plus the ability to keep a boat on plane at a lower speed. Its unique overhead cam design means that the valve train does not need maintenance for life. The optional 5.44" gearcase offers increased durability in high-speed boats operated offshore.

Sea-Doo RXT-X 300:

Advanced Engineering in a High-Performance PWC

Sea-Doo RXT-X 300
Powered with a supercharged 300-hp Rotax ACE engine, the Sea Doo RXT-X 300 is very fast indeed, with a top speed over 67 mph in our test runs.

The innovative S3 hull of the Sea Doo RXT-X 300 has a deep-V center section to knife cleanly through chop, and has stepped sections on the wide outer surfaces to reduce friction and provide more nimble handling. It produces strong performance as well as riding comfort, according to our test rider. The Ergo-Lock seating system, which allows the rider to hold his position with leg strength in sharp high-speed maneuvers, is designed to make for an easier, more comfortable ride with less effort.

Glastron GTS 187:

Supercharged Jet Power in a Stylish Runabout

Glastron GTS 187
Because the Rotax jet propulsion system takes up so little space and has a low profile, the Glastron GTS 187 can provide three tier seating. The ladies above are sitting on the rumble seat which is an ideal place to put on skis or wakeboards.

The Glastron GTS 187 is the company's first -- and only -- entry into jet systems, with Rotax power to 250-hp. Our test runs showed it to be a good combination, with time-to-plane times, comparable to many PWCs, and a top speed of 46.2 mph. The system also combines the advantages of increased safety for swimmers as well as safe shallow-water operation inherent in jet drive boats.

Tidewater 252 LXF:

We Test Her w/ 2 x Evinrude E-TEC G2 150 H.O.s

Tidewater 252 LXF
There's 33.5" of interior depth both at the bow and amidships thanks to the arched sheer of the Tidewater 252 LXF, giving security for crew as well as making for a dry ride. This tapers to 27.5" aft.

Standard wrap-around bow seating distinguishes the Tidewater 252 LXF from many fishing consoles, as does the quality of the upholstery and the piping on the seams. The standard hardtop is integrated into the design of the console, improving appearance as well as creating a very solid, durable unit. With a 9'3" beam, she has plenty of space to move fore and aft around the helm station. Performance was strong with the twin 150 Evinrude E-TEC G2 H.O.'s, topping out at 51.0 mph.
