Skeeter FX210 (2005) Captain's Report

Changing the Center of Gravity

By Captain Bob Smith

Test Captain

I went up to Texas to check out some of this year’s line-up of Skeeter boats. On the FX210 for 2005, Skeeter has moved the center of gravity forward on this model to allow this boat to still be a performance runner even with the big, heavy four-strokes on the stern.

The FX210 measures 21’2” length overall and is 26’3” on the trailer. She has a beam width of 7’ 9.5”, 8’ 4” trailer width. She weighs in at 1860 lbs and has a fuel capacity of 50 gallons. Maximum horsepower rating is 300-hp. The standard trailer for this package is the Skeeter Tandem-Axle tube trailer with disc brakes and spare tire carrier.

The FX210 design is quite similar to Skeeter’s ZX225. On the bow, there is a starboard locker with a line spooler on the lid. The navigation lights and a retractable fishnet are all locked into storage so they don’t roll around or get tossed off the boat. The locker is large and has gas a assisted lid and locks. The handle is a side action handle that is hidden. Over on the port side is a large rod organizer for keeping your favorite rigs ready for action. In the peak you have a Minnkota Max 74 trolling motor, connections and trim switch. As with the ZX225, a fish chair or bike seat can be placed in the center of the casting deck. In the center is a handy tackle management system with twelve Plano 3700 boxes and dividers to keep the rest upright when you pull the one you want out. Stepping on towards the cockpit, there is a small in-floor cooler for your sandwiches and beverages. Your buddy gets a console to keep the cold breezes at bay and it has a deep glove box for keeping your fishing license and phones dry. A running rod ramp and the stow-away plug for the charger are on the port side next to the buddy seat. Under this seat is another cooler. The center bench seat bottom pivots forward to make a step. It also has a grab handle for a more secure feeling in rough water.

The helm is definitely next generation with a Digital Cockpit Command Center with soft touch controls for all the typical electronics on board. The steering is tilt hydraulic assist and in the center of the dash is a Lowrance LCF 1440 flasher, all standard. Livewell controls are on the starboard wall next to the helm seat with another dry glove box next to the seat itself. Under this seat is more carpeted storage.

The aft casting deck has a port and starboard livewell in the center and you can add the optional Oxymax Tournament Livewell system to this package. Under the stern hatch you get great access to all the batteries, a dual pro charger system and the oil reservoir. This boat has dual fuel tanks with a total fuel capacity of 50 gallons. The stretched sponson system, X-Cess Aluminum Knee Brace assembly and no splashwell design deliver a smooth, dry ride with great control.

Performance and Ride

We tested the FX 210 on a beautiful lake just outside of Tyler, TX. Our test boat had a 300 HPDI outboard with a VMAX Series Stainless Steel prop (15 1/8 x 27). With two people on board and ½ a tank of fuel, we found we could be out of the hole and on the way to our favorite fishing spot in just 2.6 seconds. We were running past 30 mph in only 5.9 seconds. We found she cruised easily at 2500rpm and 25.6 mph. At this speed, she burns about 5.7 gph for a full tank range of 162 miles. At top end we were running at 6000 rpm and 75.2mph burning 29 gph.

If you are looking for a rig that not only carries the tournament style fishing features you need, but delivers on speed, handling and comfort; Skeeter has something you will certainly want to take a look at and test for yourself.
