New Larson 370 Day Cruiser Goes Up-Market
Larson is turning heads with loads of amenities and a 5-Year Stem-to-Stern Warranty

The 370’s round table with inlaid compass rose is a striking example of Larson’s leap into up-market amenities.

With amenities such as a granite table and counter tops, powered helm seats, a wine cooler, a circular lounge with powered table, and twin extended swim platforms, Larson has catapulted itself into the up-market class of express cruisers. This has not been an over-night change, as for the last several years Larson boats have been taking their design cues from some of the most expensive boats on the water. And the evolution at Larson seems to be paying off as J. D. Power noted two years ago that the brand was the fastest rising on its CSI scale.

Her best cruise is 30 mph which will give you a range of 404 miles, which makes this 56 one of the longest range express cruisers on the market. Everything about this yacht is big, so if you are looking for real head room and lots of space you need to put the Cruisers Yachts 56 on your short list. Doral Boca Grande Razzle-Dazzles ‘em At New York Show
Classy design, great joinerwork and IPS impress jaded New Yorkers at first 2008 boat show

boca grande
“There is more wood on the helm of the 36’ Doral Boca Grande than some brands have in their whole line,” said one show goer.

“It has the ‘WOW’ factor,” said Dennis Smigiel, of Kydd’s Marine Center, the Doral dealer in Massapequa, New York, referring to the 2008 36’ Doral Boca Grande. We can’t expect Dennis to be objective, of course, but at least one New York Boat Show goer we interviewed said, “This boat has the best cabin I have seen at the show.” Don’t take a salesman’s word for it, or even that of a jaded New Yorker – take a look for yourself at Capt. Robert Smith’s video and decide what you think…

Marquis 40 SC Redux:
World-Class Styling &
IPS Efficiency

Only 52 of these yachts will be built this year and the order book is full. Find out why—

For a moveable feast just push a button and the aft deck slides 18” aft.

The Marquis 40 SC turned out to be one of the most successful new boat introductions of the year, filling up the builder’s order book in just a few months. It was the star attraction at fall shows in its size and category and deserves your attention no matter what type, size or brand you plan to buy because it is full of refreshing new design ideas. Twin IPS 435-hp diesels give this vessel a 30-mph cruise, 300-mile range and 1.13 mpg. To find out why this boat is turning heads, watch Capt. Ron Svoboda’s video test…

Phantom 48
Has 3 Staterooms

This 48’ flybridge design is a viable alternative to hard-top express cruisers with twin cabins

phantom 48
With the galley down, two helm stations, 3 cabins, two heads with separate showers, and a captain’s cabin aft, this cruiser has lots of functionality squeezed into just 48 feet.

Fairline has crammed a lot of amenities into just 48 feet and the Phantom 48 should be considered by anyone considering an express cruiser in this size and price range. Granted, the accommodations are all a bit on the snug side, but “public spaces” – flying bridge, salon and aft deck – are conventionally-sized and there is plenty of room for six people, plus a captain, to enjoy cruising on this boat. There are not many boats on the market like it, and the boat deserves a look. Powered by twin Volvo Penta 575-hp D9 diesels, she weighs 34,000-lb. and has a 14’8” beam. See Capt. Robert Smith’s “first video look” at this versatile yacht from the U.K.

Man on Bow of 43’ Express Dies Wake Jumping
Boat and props run over man who falls from bow

bow riding
Rule #1 is to never ride on the bow of a motoring powerboat, much less when wave jumping.

Henry Ogden, 49, of Sarasota fell from the bow of a 42’ powerboat that was going through rough water in the Gulf of Mexico, near Sarasota, FL. This tragedy points out once again that all passengers should stay clear of the bow when a boat is in operation. Local marine police said that wake jumping can be considered reckless boating. Dog Drives Man Standing on Boat Bow—Wow!
Proving once again that there is one born every minute

Fido proves once again that anyone -- or anything – can drive a powerboat. But can a man stand safely on the bow?

In order to get a cute video of his best friend “driving” his express cruiser, an unidentified man stands on the bow of his moving boat. Didn’t we just read that such antics were dangerous? Watch this video and tell us which has more brains – the pooch sitting at the helm or his owner trying to stand on a lurching foredeck. To see a real bow-wow…fetch the video here

10 Ways to Get a 10%+ Discount off a $2 to $6 Million Yacht
What is more important: finding a great deal or a great boat? Here’s how to find both

Large yachts carry small dealer margins. Getting a big discount is not easy.

Most new-boat buyers are businessmen used to driving a hard bargain. The trouble is that most of these “yachtsmen” don’t know the realities of the big boat business – where fewer than 1,000 new 50’+ powerboats are sold in the U.S. each year. Further, the old paradigm of “Desperate Boat Dealers” in slow markets has changed. Now, builders and dealers are working together to make sure both stay economically healthy and inventories stay low.

To find out about the new paradigm in big boat buying and 10 ways to really save 10%+…plunk your magic twanger

At Last: Shore Power Boost When You Need It
If you have suffered at marinas where the other boats are hogging most of the power,
read this

Capt. Smith discovers a great solution for boats perpetually on the short end of the dock, powerwise.

You know the scenario: you are the last boat in for the night, and all of the boats between you and the main power line have drained off much of the juice; or, there is a megayacht tied up across the dock with three power cords already plugged in and the captain is looking for a fourth; or, a boatload of teenage girls is nearby and all are running their hair dryers at once. Now, Charles Industries has a solution: The Smart Boost. This new product is a must for the cruising yacht that travels to marinas with antiquated or over-loaded shore power systems. See Capt. Smith’s new product video…

See 98th Annual Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade
Dozens of boats participate in 5-day long parade around Newport Beach Harbor

Dozens of boats decked their topsides with boughs of folly and pranced in front of the 10,000 boats in Newport Harbor.

Dozens of harbors around the U.S. have Christmas parades, but of all of the videos we have seen, the parade this year in Newport Beach gets the award for most outstanding. From December 12 to 16, each night for two hours, Southern California yachtsmen treated their waterborne and waterside neighbors to some holiday cheer -- which in at least one case reportedly cost $50,000. The course is over 14 miles long. See video…
