Sea Ray SLX 310 OB:
Quick, Quiet and Comfortable Day Boat

Sea Ray SLX 310 OB
Sea Ray SLX 310 OB

The Sea Ray SLX 310 OB weighs in at better than 11,000 lbs. (4,989.5 kg) fueled up, but powered by twin 300-hp Mercury Verados, she got on plane in 4.8 seconds and had a top speed of 50.8 mph. With the company’s “Quiet Ride” technology absorbing vibrations and quieting rattles, our instrumentation recorded only 58 dBA at idle, and just 84 dBA at full speed. Sea Ray’s Dynamic Running Surface consists of large, triangular planes set into the aft edge of the hull. They can be controlled manually or with presets to improve acceleration, reduce bow rise and keep the boat at optimal trim. The premium-grade day cruiser can seat up to 17, and the PowerTower with articulating Bimini, seen here, is a standard feature. More...

Evinrude Clean Technology:
High-Efficiency, Clean-Running Two-Stroke Power

Evinrude Clean Technology
Evinrude Clean Technology

Outboard engines of today run cleaner than those from years ago, producing only about 10 percent of the environmentally harmful emissions compared to before EPA and CARB standards went into effect in the early 2000s. But the Evinrude E-TEC G2 lineup is the cleanest running of all, producing almost 15 percent fewer harmful emissions than the closest competitors in the popular 150-hp class, and nearly half the emissions of some others. Cleaner burning also means more efficient operation for longer range and better fuel economy. One reason is Evinrude’s electronic DFI, or direct fuel injection system, which puts a finely atomized charge of fuel, electronically metered, into the cylinder at exactly the right instant for complete ignition, getting maximum energy from a minimal amount of gasoline. Vicem 58:
Classic Lines in Cold-Molded Mahogany

Vicem 58
Vicem 58

The classic beauty of the Vicem 58 results from a mix of historic and modern boat-building techniques. Her hull is laid up with multiple thin layers of cold-molded mahogany planks, each coated with epoxy resin and set at a 45-degree grain angle to the one below for increased stiffness, then encased inside and out with E-glass fabric and resin. The result is an exceptionally strong hull with moderate weight. Fiberglass filler and intensive long-board sanding give a flawless base for the exterior paint process. More...

Beneteau Barracuda 27:
All-Season Adventure Cruiser

Beneteau Barracuda 27
Beneteau Barracuda 27

The Beneteau Barracuda 27 is an outboard-powered Adventure Cruiser designed for fishing as well as more general weekending for a couple or young family. She can take on an offshore run on most days, and the fully enclosed helm area gives her a significant advantage over center console designs on cold or wet days. Sliding doors on both sides of the cabin and aft, plus a sliding sunroof, provide plenty of ventilation and the boarding door amidships will be a handy exit for the captain when tying up single-handed. She’s rated for twin outboards to 250-hp. More...

MAKO® 284 CC

The 50-gallon (189 L) livewell in the leaning post is part of the fully equipped rigging station in the MAKO® 284 CC, a hard-core offshore fishing platform with an impressive 55.9 mph WOT. The well is one of the larger in class, has rounded corners, flow-through aeration, LED lighting, and a clear cover for quick checks of bait condition. The sink with cutting-board cover is adjacent for quick rigging and cleanup, and a knife/pliers rack is just below. The assembly also includes four rocket launchers, tackle stowage and a grab rail—because this is a favored spot for anglers to stand during rough-water runs. More...

Boating Tips

Spring Commissioning for Small Boats

uscg report
Get a jump on the season and take care of preventive maintenance and inspections now.

A boating season that begins long before launch day with a punch list of tasks will mean less downtime when the season is in full swing and family and friends are excited to come along. Take the time before the season starts to go through the boat’s systems and equipment. This step is all the more important for boaters who do their own maintenance, as many owners of small boats do. For a good start, see the task list here.
