What boaters are doing with their boats can be a factor in accidents? The Coast Guard compiles statistics to see how common everyday activities such as fishing, fueling, snorkeling, and towed watersports stack up.
Take a look at the table below to see how common boating activities rate in the statistics regarding accidents, injuries, and fatalities on the water.
This table examines the vessel and victim activity at the time of the accidents. The table provides information about the number of vessels involved, the resulting number of deaths and the resulting number of injuries.
Please note that vessels used for commercial or government activity were included in this recreational boating statistics publication if they were involved in a multi-vessel accident that involved at least one recreational vessel.
Also note that racing was included as an activity because either the vessels involved in racing were not exempted from reporting requirements, or the vessels were involved in a multi-vessel accident that involved at least one recreational vessel.
Note: Report is for 2016
