Premier 290 Grand Entertainer:
600-hp Makes this Toon Fly

Premier 290 Grand Entertainer
The Premier 290 Grand Entertainer is huge (6,482 lbs./2,940 kgs. as tested) and twin 300-hp Yamahas almost made this boat take off and fly – WOT was 52.6 mph.

For those people wanting the ultimate pontoon boat, we suggest taking a look at the Premier 290 Grand Entertainer. We recently tested her powered by twin 300-hp Yamahas and not only did she break the 50-mph barrier – but she got on plane in only 2.1 seconds! This kind of performance is virtually unheard off for a pontoon boat of this weight. It means that not only is she a remarkable boat for entertaining (she has a full bar with stools and mini galley), but she also can pull wakeboarders up as quickly as virtually anything on the water. Beneteau GT 49 Fly:
3 SR/2H with Galley Down

Beneteau GT 49 Fly
Our resident interior inspector, Elisabeth Soltes, points out the finer things about the Beneteau GT 49's interior design, décor and styling in a new video. What's that fabric called?

It follows that a boat built in Europe should have modern, tasteful décor but there is more to Beneteau's approach to interior design than that. The GT 49 Fly's interior spaces are also practical and were clearly designed by a team that has done a lot of cruising and entertaining aboard boats of this size. The GT 49 Fly comes with a choice of two interior layouts: one with three staterooms/galley down, and another with two staterooms/galley down with settee. More...

Cruisers Sport Series 328 Bow Rider:
Sleeps 2, Seats 16

Cruisers Sport Series 328 SS
Hull #1 of the new Cruisers Sport Series 328 Bow Rider will be turning heads wherever she goes -- which will be pretty much anywhere the owner wants.

Carrying more people means fewer friends get left behind, which often means buying a bowrider. But for those who want to overnight once in a while, what to do? Buy a second boat? Now there is a solution. Cruisers Yachts has come up with a new model in its Sport Series lineup that combines the best of a massive bowrider with a surprisingly large mid-cabin suitable for overnighting by a couple in comfortable surroundings. It’s the CSS 328 Bow Rider and we think it’s about to start making waves. More...

Prestige 720:
Motoryacht with Main Deck Master

Prestige 720
Hull #1 of the Prestige 720 was launched this summer and has completed her sea trials. This is a large motoryacht, just look at the size of the people in the picture.

The new Prestige 720 motoryacht displaces 91,271 lbs. (41,400 kgs.) dry, which means fully laden and ready for sea she will displace something over 100,000 lbs. (45,454 kgs.). That makes her a serious bluewater motoryacht with the gravitas to go most anywhere and provide reasonable comfort for her passengers. She has a 17’10” (5.43 m) beam which is a good compromise between speed/fuel efficiency and interior room. Indeed she has four staterooms and three heads and her master is on the main deck, something we rarely see in motoryachts under 100’. More...

Bayliner 195 Bowrider:
Packaged with 4.3 L Engine and Trailer

Bayliner 195 Bowrider
The Bayliner 195 BR package comes standard with a Mercury 220-hp 4.3 L engine and a single axle trailer with disc brakes.

When it comes to small bowriders such as the Bayliner 195 BR, the focus is on the boat's stern because that's where the action takes place. As can be seen in the image, the Bayliner 195 BR actually has two swim platforms, one integral to the hull and a second one, a bit lower to the water, extending out from the transom. There is plenty of room here to comfortably put on boards. Engine options go up to a 260-hp 5.0 L Mercury sterndrive and the package trailer and boat have been designed to fit into a standard garage. Base pricing starts at around $27,000. More...

Hatteras 80 Motor Yacht:
For Serious Cruising and Entertaining

Hatteras 80 Motor Yacht
The Hatteras 80 Motor Yacht has a LOA of 79’10” (24.33 m) and a massive 21’3” (6.48 m) beam. She is built like a tank for serious cruising most anywhere.

While many motoryachts in this class tend to focus on day boating, dockside cocktail parties and high speed in flat water, the Hatteras 80 reflects an owner’s desire for serious cruising. She is designed to be practical and comfortable for extended time aboard. The Hatteras 80 is also intended for serious entertaining as the table on the bow indicates. Her wide beam -- unusual for yachts in this class -- accommodates four large staterooms with en suite heads, a spacious "country kitchen" galley, a large salon with an adjacent formal dining table, plus a warm and inviting aft deck. All of this while maintaining the highest level of luxury and construction standards. Let’s dig a little deeper with our detailed captain’s report. More...

Evinrude ICON:
Control Management System

Evinrude ICON
Evinrude multi-function control management system is a state-of-the-art drive-by-wire system that handles up to five outboard engines from two locations.

We think the ICON digital control system is icing on the Evinrude E-TEC cake. Just as Evinrude’s revolutionary E-TEC technology brought 2-stroke outboard power into the 21st century, so too has its ICON system closed the loop on digital control. Because it is digital, repowering even complex rigs is now easy and quick, involving just a matter of running some wires. And, in our opinion, new boat installations shouldn’t be done any other way. Mako 18 LTS:
For Bays, Bayous, and Skinny Water

Mako 18 LTS
Mako’s 18 LTS (for Light Tackle System) is a boat designed for a specific purpose every bit as much as are her large Mako cousins.

Inshore light tackle fishing can be some of the most rewarding angling on the planet. Most important, it can be done within a reasonable budget, making the sport even more satisfying. The builder tells us that the Mako 18 can operate in as little as 24” (60 cm) of water. Her bow and stern casting decks are high, but her cockpit amidships is low, so when things get a bit choppy anglers can retreat, lower the CG and keep on fishing. She’s all the boat many people will ever need. Find out more...

Jeanneau Merry Fisher 855:
Return of the Cabin Cruiser

Merry Fisher 855
The Merry Fisher 855 is 28’7” (8.72 m) LOA, with a 9’9” (2.99 m) beam and displaces 6,393 lbs. (2,900 kgs.).

Fourty years ago some of the most popular powerboats on the market were cabin cruisers that were from 25’ to 30’ (7.62 – 9.14 m) long. But these boats have been virtually extinct for decades. What happened? Among other things, a strong trend to express cruisers and Euro-styling. It is ironic, then, that the builder that is bringing back this practical design concept is European – Jeanneau, one of the largest powerboat builders on the Continent. Not only that, but the 28’ Merry Fisher 855 is outboard powered which means she has much more cockpit and interior space than most of the old inboard-powered cabin cruisers ever had. We think it is a design concept whose time has come…again. More...

Sea Ray 205 Sport:
We Test Her with a 4.3 L Engine

Sea Ray 205 Sport
We recorded the Sea Ray 205 Sport at 50.4 mph WOT powered by a single MerCruiser 220-hp 4.3 L engine during our test on a river in Tennessee.

There are several reasons why the Sea Ray 205 Sport is one of the most popular bowriders over 20’. First, she is low and sleek looking. Second, she is fast with a 4.3 L engine turning an Alpha I lower unit. Third, her interior amenities and exterior graphics make her compelling to be aboard or to see when flashing by. More...

MJM 50z:
Limited Production Makes Her Exclusive

MJM 50z
This is a computer simulation of what the helm will look like on the new MJM 50z which is currently in the tooling phase of its construction.

Several months ago we announced the introduction of the MJM 50z which will be launched next summer. Currently only three of these boats are scheduled to be built in 2014 which should make them one of the most prized 50-footers on the market next year. This Downeast design is for daytime picnics with lots of friends on the water around home, as well as being a comfortable bluewater cruiser for two couples or a family. Boston Boat Works is tooling the vessel and she will be built to the same high CE A "Offshore" standards to which other MJM boats conform. More...

Nord Star 37 Patrol:
A World-Wide Commuter

Nord Star 37
In Northern Europe docking is often bow-to which saves lots of space at marinas. "A" indicates the roll of fabric tape that is used to hook onto stern moorings. "B" indicates the stern anchor used primarily for the same purpose when there is no stern mooring available.

The Nord Star 37 Patrol is a go-anywhere/almost-anytime cabin cruiser that has broad application around the world for people who must travel in all sorts of weather. While she has obvious application in northern latitudes anyone who has ever experienced the Christmas winds in the Caribbean knows that the tropics can be just as daunting as the far north. The Nord Star 37 Patrol might be the solution for many "must-travel" boaters. More...

Yamaha VX Deluxe:
High Power and Quality, Low Price

Yamaha VX Deluxe
The Yamaha VX Deluxe has the power needed for towing sports and seating for a spotter. Its wide reboarding transom is a strong plus.

The Yamaha VX Deluxe is a surprisingly affordable PWC but it is not lacking in performance, utility or durability. All PWCs may look pretty much the same but the Yamaha VX Deluxe has an engine specifically made for jet watercraft for low maintenance and high reliability. More...

Carolina Classic 28:
A Rugged Express Fishboat

Sea Ray 240 Sundeck
Inboard-powered express fishboats under 30' (9.14 m) have almost become an endangered species, but the Carolina Classic 28 is can go toe-to-toe with behemoth battlewagons offshore for big game.

There are precious few boats under 30' without outboard engines on their transoms -- the very place keen anglers want to be when battling game fish. Owners of center consoles eager to move up to go farther offshore in more comfort and safety, as well as owners of large, costly battlewagons wanting to down-size and economize, should both take a look at the Carolina Classic 28. She is rugged and practical. See her now...

Nordic Tugs 34:
Single-Engine Power Makes Sense

Nordic Tugs 34
With a standard bow thruster the single-engine Nordic Tug 34 turns on a dime and docks as easy as a twin-screw boat.

One of the most important unintended consequences of the U.S. Government’s imposition of strict emissions on recreational boat engines is the improvement in their reliability. That, together with the advancement in fuel filtering systems and wide-spread use of fuel polishers, means that single-engine reliability is extremely high. Indeed, most commercial freighters and tankers operate with only one engine. There is a message there: single diesel engines are reliable and economical in displacement vessels. And in this economy both in initial purchase price and operating expenses, a single engine makes the cruising dream realistic for many boaters. The Nordic Tug 34 is a good example of this concept. Shurhold Crystal Clear Glass:
Eliminate Ugly Water Spots

 Shurhold Crystal Clear Glass
Shurhold products are becoming the standard by which all others are judged, and Shurhold's new Magic Wool Pads are a prime example of why.

Since we work and play on the water, water spots are a problem that goes with the territory. Even after wash downs, water spots on glass are still present thanks to the minerals usually found in freshwater. Today, the team at Shurhold presents an instructional on how to deal with this universal problem. Their new product Magic Wool, used with their award winning Buff Magic cream just may be the answer to one of the most problematic issues that we love to ignore. View more info here...
