Brief Summary

The Sea Ray 19 SPX is a reasonably well-equipped and surprisingly affordable bowrider in standard conformation, but by adding optional packages buyers can turn her into a well-dressed tow machine, or even a credible fishing vessel. The standard 135-hp MerCruiser/Alpha package keeps the price down, and should also be very economical to operate.

    Mission Statement

The 19 SPX is the smallest player in Sea Ray’s new line of family affordable runabouts, offering good looks, a high freeboard, and a large swim platform. This stubby bowrider was designed for aquatic adventure sports, and is powered with a cost conscious four-cylinder sterndrive propulsion set-up from MerCruiser.

    Major Features

    • Activity adaptable design
    • Super economical 4-cylinder power with V6 options
    • Beam width swim platform with transom walkthrough
    • Trailer included in base price
    • Available with outboard or sterndrive power

    Time For Fun

Because the SPX line is intended to be affordable, it comes standard with all the basics for a good time. It is also smartly optioned to include four packages available from the factory, two of which will really increase the boats usability. The ‘Elevation package’ is geared for wake and ski sport enthusiasts with SeaDek matting for the swim platform, a wakeboard tower with built-in racks, along with other goodies for sporting. Another good choice is the ‘Allsport package’ that turns the SPX into a weekend fishing rig with casting chairs for the bow and cockpit, some rod storage, a livewell system and of course a trolling motor.

The 19 SPX’s standard 3.0 liter in-line four cylinder block features Mercury’s dependable electronic fuel injection system and the EPA compliant Emission Control Technology (ECT) system that is globally clean and keeps us all breathing better. It produces 135 ponies and is mated to an Alpha 1 sterndrive with aluminum prop.Optional engine upgrades include three different flavors of the MerCruiser 4.3 liter V6 power platform: the TKS, MPI and MPI with ECT. The horsepower bump from the TKS’s V6 is a good value, but since it is a carbureted mill, many waterways may shun it. Going with the MPI versions is a big jump in price but may be needed like the California savvy, Tier 3 compliant ECT version. The 19 SPX’s 19-degree deadrise running surface and 2,728 lb. (1,237 kg) dry weight will give a confident and stable ride with good handling response from the sterndrive propulsion set-up. Like all Sea Ray’s the boat is NMMA certified, and the hull and rigging all meet USCG and ABYC standards.

At the stern, a port side transom walkthrough makes getting to the water much easier. The beam width swim platform offers lots of room for hanging-out and for getting in and out of the water. There is a recessed four-rung, boarding ladder molded in to the platform’s deck and the sole in the stern area can be fitted with plush SeaDek flooring as an option. Next to the walkthrough is a padded engine box with enough room to enjoy as a sun pad for one or an aft facing, water front bench seat for three.

The 19 SPX’s deep bottom hull will cut through the chop and bumps better than others in her class.

The stern activity area is very functional and user-friendly.

    The cockpit

seating offers a bench seat for three at the stern and a convertible bench to port. This portside arrangement has a removable seat bottom cushion and seat back to transform it into a companion seat or mini lounger. Just forward, the console houses the stereo unit and a large locking glove box. Meanwhile, the aft seat provides a removable beverage cooler below one of its cushions, as well as an L-shaped bolster pad for guests to recline on.

    Sea Ray 19 SPX
The large glove box keeps personal items secure and dry.

In order to maximize seating, Sea Ray had to sacrifice cockpit storage, but there is a large centerline board locker in the deck for toys and the bow seating is removable to provide added space for items.

At the front of the bowrider

is room for two to enjoy the ride and get some sun, or up to three with the aft facing center section seat and padded bolster cushions for the seat backs.

Sea Ray 19 SPX seat bottoms
Removable seat bottoms offer the majority of storage on board the 19 SPX.

    For the captain

, the helm has a swivel bucket seat with good support and fore-aft adjustability. A flat panel, tinted glass windshield provides wind protection for pilot and companion and includes a folding center walkthrough. The dash has an analog gauge pod with all the needed engine instrumentation and is accompanied by a power assisted tilt steering wheel and easy to use side mount engine controls.

    Sea Ray 19 SPX helm
Although value driven, Sea Ray did not scrimp on the styling.
Sea Ray 19 SPX flip up bolster seat
A flip-up bolster seat for the helm is an option that is worth considering.

The base price for the 19 SPX with a 135 horsepower MerCruiser 3.0L ECT and Alpha I sterndrive is $27,685 and includes a painted trailer.
