The importance of this test of the new Cobalt A28 and the new Volvo Penta 430-hp 6.0L V8 was threefold: 1) Find out how the new V8-430 behaved in the A28; 2) Discover if its 29% weight reduction from big blocks could be seen in performance improvement; 3) Determine if the 6.0 L V8-430 is competitive with the big block engines when it comes to WOT speed. Getting the answers to these questions was a tall order, indeed, particularly as the temperature was 98F on test day.
