The Cruisers Yachts 50 Cantius is the smaller sibling of the Cantius 60 and 54 which have recently preceded her. She shares the same external lines and elegant interior that the larger boats have. She comes in either a two stateroom, two head version or a three stateroom and two head layout. The space for the third stateroom can be used for other purposes, if desired. For all practical purposes she fulfills the same basic function as the 60 and 54 Cantius models, but in a smaller package. She is intended for day cruising and entertaining, or longer cruises along the coast or offshore to the islands.
• Aft Grill -- The 50 Cantius features a compact grill off its aft swim platform, with a lid that will protect it from the elements when not in use. It is flanked on either side by stainless steel grab rails and has counter space alongside it as well.
• Transom storage -- Accessed via the aft swim platform, the 50 Cantius has a spacious storage compartment under a lid that can accommodate watersports toys, flotation devices, and other gear.
• Entertainment Capabilities -- The master stateroom on the 50 Cantius can transform into a mini-theater once the blinds are lowered, immersing the stateroom in the glow of the built-in TV and audio systems.
• Bow Lounge -- The 50 Cantius’s bow has two chaise loungers with plush armrests on their respective outside edges that have built-in cup holders, as well as a collapsible wood-grain table in between them, much like what could be found at a tiny resort around a swimming pool.
• Upper Salon -- The 50 Cantius’s upper salon has an open floorplan with 360-degree windows and retractable windows in the aft section that can open the space up to a flow of indoor and outdoor spaces.
Swim Platform. The 50 Cantius has a fiberglass swim platform with a non-skid surface. To port is a telescoping reboarding ladder that mounts flush on the platform when not in use.
Aft Storage. Forward is the ship’s aft grill, which is found under a lift-up lid between the Cantius’s port and starboard access stairs. Just behind the grill is the transom storage space, which can be accessed with the grill’s lid down, and lifts up with the help of a gas-assisted strut. The storage space can stow fenders, watersports toys, and many other bulky items that may need stowing.
Further storage comes to either side of the grill, just inside the access steps on each side. The space is accessed by lift-up hatches with stainless steel hinges and latch.
To port and starboard are access steps up to the 50 Cantius’s cockpit, which also give access to the side-decks up to the bow.
Convertible Table. The aft deck has a U-shaped bench seat that extends along the transom and curls back along the inside edge of the access stairs on each side. The seating wraps around a large, solid wood cocktail table on a stainless steel pedestal. This table is a “hi-lo” and can be electrically lowered to be flush with the seating and converted to a large sunpad.
The 50 Cantius also has a wet bar in the transom as well as further storage to starboard.
Facing aft is a smaller bench seat up against the bulkhead, which seats two and has built-in stainless steel cup holders on each armrest. This is a thoughtful design that creates a convivial conversation space for cocktail parties or a view of the boat’s wake when underway.
The 50 Cantius’s main salon has an open floorplan, with 360-degree windows and a sunroof. Access comes via the cockpit through stainless steel folding doors. The salon is climate-controlled, has overhead LED lighting, and is carpeted throughout.
The galley is immediately to port upon entry. It is U-shaped, has lots of counter space, and is equipped with a two-burner glass-top stove, a microwave convection oven, and a drawer-style refrigerator/freezer. The stainless steel sink has a designer faucet.
A breakfast bar with countertop extends along the galley’s aft end, just up against the cockpit access, offering the ability to serve a group on the cockpit easily from the galley and to stay a part of the party.
The galley has a Corian countertop, with a range that comes with countertop cover, as well as a stainless steel sink and faucet with similar countertop cover. Taken together, these covers expand the food prep area to nearly as much as one would find in a house.
Versatility. A convection oven is just below the counter surface along the portside counter space. There are four locations for drawer-type refrigerators, freezers, ice makers, and a dishwasher. Two of those locations are on the starboard side under an additional counter.
Moving forward, there is a C-shaped sofa to port wrapped around a dining table that sits atop a stainless steel pedestal. The sunroof is just above this space. On the starboard side is a love seat just behind the helm.
The access hallway to the accommodations deck is forward, between the dinette and helm.
The helm has a sleek design, with a double-wide captain’s chair that features luxury upholstery, flip-up armrests, and flip-up bolsters. The roadster-style steering wheel is wrapped in leather, and is accompanied to port by the vhf radio.
Just above is a slanted touchscreen display, which can be stocked with devices to your specification.
To starboard are the electronic throttle controls and joystick control panel, the latter being a great tool for those new to navigating with such a large vessel -- the joystick simplifies and improves response for even the tightest of maneuvering.
The master stateroom on the 50 Cantius is through a door to port off the access steps. This leads to a hallway leading back to the stateroom, which has an access door to the head to port and a large mirror on the starboard side bulkhead. Further down the hall, also on the starboard side, is a large storage closet.
The master stateroom has a full beam floorplan that has a sofa/chaise to port, a large bureau with countertop on the starboard side, and a walkaround island berth. There are also nightstands on either side of the berth with storage drawers below.
To port and starboard are large panoramic hull windows that allow in a wealth of sunlight, which can be blocked with blinds that come standard.
In lieu of a traditional “headboard,” the master has a wall adorned with an unusual stone decoration on either side of another mirror, which makes the room look even bigger than it is. The aft-facing bulkhead on the starboard side of the hallways has further closet storage, and the master stateroom’s entertainment center includes an HDTV, an audio system, and the ability to plunge the space into darkness at the touch of a button.
The master head is wood-detailed -- a pleasing continuation of the design in the stateroom itself. The counter surface is Corian, just below the vanity, with a sink and faucet. The countertop also has useful storage doors just below.
Finally, on the forward end of the head, is the full-standing shower, with glass door and in-stall seat.
Immediately forward the access stairs, in the bow of the boat, is the VIP stateroom. The VIP stateroom has an island berth, with storage drawers below. To port is a pair of steps up to the berth, with the hull extending out from the bow to provide table-like space on both sides.
The stateroom has large, panoramic hull windows, as well as blinds to block out any unwanted sunlight. Above is an opening hatch for air and light, or emergencies. It has a TV on the aft bulkhead, as well as a climate control panel just near the berth.
Immediately to starboard, when coming down the companionway, is the guest room on the 50 Cantius. It has two twin beds, stacked like bunk beds. This space can be outfitted with an optional TV and features a wide hull window that offers plenty of natural light, despite its smaller profile.
The guest stateroom has storage and a hanging locker.
This space can be used for other purposes, if desired. Some will use it as a study with desk and chair; others will use it as a laundry room, although there is already a washer/dryer adjacent to the master stateroom.
The shared head is decorated in similar fashion to the master head, with a smaller footprint. The countertop is smaller, with the toilet alongside, and the free-standing shower is also with glass door and in-stall seat.
The side decks on the 50 Cantius are wide, with straight-up-and-down stainless steel guiderails on the outside.
The bow lounge features two loungers -- which are separated with a table -- facing forward. The backs to each can prop up or recline very easily, with a pad in between at the head that creates a U shape when the loungers are reclined.
POWER AND PERFORMANCE
The 50 Cantius comes with twin 435-hp Volvo Penta IPS600 systems, standard. We have not yet tested the new model, but we plan to do so in the future. However, the folks at Cruisers Yachts have tested the boat, so we will pass along their test numbers. The test weight of their vessel was estimated to be 41,868 lbs. and the prop-set used was IPS 15 N4.
Cruisers Yachts reports that at wide open throttle they reached a top speed of 32.93 knots (37.90 mph) at 2950 rpm. Best cruise came at 2500 rpm where the boat went 25.46 knots (29.30 mph), burned 42 gph for .70 statute miles per gallon, and had a calculated range of 282 statute miles at that speed.
Cruisers Yachts come with the following warranties:
• Five-Year Limited Structural Warranty
• Three-Year Limited Blister Warranty
• One-Year Limited Components Warranty
Probably the most notable aspect of the new 50 Cantius is that the designers at Cruisers Yachts have managed to get virtually all of the major functions of the 54 and 60 into the 50. Also, Cruisers Yachts has managed to turn some new tricks, such as adding the aft-facing bench seat on the aft deck and the separated chaise lounges with serving table in between on the foredeck.
Not an inch has been wasted on this boat nor has any creature comfort been left out.
