Captain's Report
Editor's Report by Capt. Steve Larivee
When most think of Ferretti, the mega yacht versions come to mind. But Ferretti has been hard at work capturing the brand loyalty at an earlier stage with some smaller models, between 45 and 60 feet (13.72 m – 18.29 m). The 550 has captured the hearts of owners, but time marches forward and so must the 550. Now she’s been improved and enhanced for a more rewarding ownership experience. And make no mistake, this is a Ferretti through and through -- so much of the larger yacht’s characteristics are still present in this smaller footprint.
The flybridge is relatively small for boat’s in class, and while it impedes functionality, it does add to the sleek styling. Choose from either an open or hardtop version. Seating is J-shaped, aft to port and across the stern, and wraps around a pedestal table. The helm is portside mounted with a double-wide seat. A small wet bar is to starboard and forward of the ladder.
Main Deck
The bow features another social zone consisting of a curved bench seat behind a large sunpad. Another characteristic is the side deck bulwarks that drop down as they are carried aft. This further adds to the good looks, while improving visibility from the salon at the same time.
Below
The master is located midships and is full beam. Hullside windows to port and starboard have integrated opening ports. The VIP is forward and shows no shortage of storage, even utilizing the space under the berth. An ensuite can be fitted here at the expense of a starboard side desk and some storage. The guest twin is located to port. As an alternative, choose a two stateroom layout.
