United States Sailboat Show
Starts Tomorrow in Annapolis

model
The city dock and inner harbor of Annapolis is taken over by the U.S. Sailboat Show which has the largest selection of sailboats on the east coast.

The 45th annual United States Sailboat Show starts tomorrow, Thursday, October 8 and runs until Monday, October 12th. The show management says that about 200 sailboats of all different sizes and types will be on display. We think it is the single best sailboat show on the east coast and we urge any of our members who are seriously in the market for a sailboat to visit this show to make boat-to-boat comparisons.

Beneteau has contributed a First 22 daysailor as the first price for the entry ticket raffle. We have reviewed this boat and think that she makes an excellent daysailer for the whole family, as well as being a versatile club boat. See our review…

Leading the exhibitors will be The Beneteau Group (Beneteau and Jeanneau) with a total of 19 boats in the show, may of which we have reviewed. Take a look at the boats we have reviewed which will be at the show --

Bavaria Virtess 420 Coupe:
Luxury Coupe for the Family

Bavaria Virtess 420 Fly
The Bavaria Virtess 420 Coupe is one of the few express-style boats we’ve seen with a sun lounge on the hardtop.

Bavaria has created in the Virtess 420 Coupe a three-stateroom, two-head family cruiser designed for family cruising and even multi-generational cruising. With her coupe design, she incorporates a power sunroof and large sliding side windows. Bavaria is good at adding flexibility of use to suit the occasion to its yachts, as we’ll see in the Virtess 420 Coupe. More...

Regal 2300 RX Surf:
Watersports Platform w/ PowerTower

Regal 2300 RX Surf
The Regal 2300 RX Surf comes fully-loaded for watersports, and the PowerTower feature can be lowered at the touch of a button to pass under bridges or slide into a covered dock.

Dual four-position reversible lounges provide versatility at the transom area in the Regal 2300 RX Surf, while ballast tanks can quickly add up to 1000 lbs. of weight for building the "perfect" wake. The company's patented FasTrac hull, with a mid-beam step to provide under-hull ventilation, is said to boost speed and fuel economy with a given power system. More...

Beneteau Oceanis 60:
Layout Options in a Luxury Sailing Yacht

Beneteau Oceanis 60
This is just one of the many possible choices of materials and patterns available for the interior furnishings of the Beneteau Oceanis 60.

The interior of the Beneteau Oceanis 60 offers a wide variety of rich material textures overlaying multi-density foam seating. Alpi mahogany cabinetry and furnishings look good and provide durability in the marine environment. Plenty of hullside and overhead windows keep the interior bright during daylight hours -- and electric-actuation shades give privacy after dark. She's available in three stateroom, three head configuration, or with four slightly smaller staterooms and four heads. More...

Cruisers Yachts 60 Cantius:
Entertaining Afloat in Grand Style

Cruisers Yachts 60 Cantius
The cockpit grill aboard the Cruisers Yachts 60 Cantius provides a convenient spot to grill up some burgers and dogs for lunch, while keeping cooking smells and smoke out of the salon.

Offering no fewer than five inviting venues stretching from bow to swim platform, the new Cruisers Yachts 60 Cantius is clearly a yacht intended for entertaining in grand style. Our Marine Decor Analyst, Suzy Stewart, notes the open air bar with sliding glass window providing access to the galley, she says it will be one of the more popular spots aboard on most cruises. A cooler and a Med-type awning plus plenty of upholstered seating at the bow make this a great spot for sundowning when the yacht is at anchor. More...

World Cat 320CC:
Smooth-Riding, Multi-Mission Catamaran

World Cat 320CC
The sharp twin hulls of the World Cat 320CC deliver a smooth ride both at speed and at trolling velocity, making her an exceptionally comfortable rig for bluewater action in bumpy seas.

Thanks to the generous forward beam of this twin hull catamaran, the bow area can seat a crowd for a sundown cruise around the harbor. The diamond-stitched seating with bolsters all around raise the bar for upholstery in class. A 45-gallon aerated livewell and locking storage for six rods is a plus for anglers, as is the self-bailing cockpit, which provides easy washdown as well as added security at the docks in heavy rain events or offshore in truly sloppy weather. Prestige Yachts 750:
Fuel Efficient Luxury Yacht
w/ Four Staterooms

Prestige Yachts 750
The main salon of the Prestige 750 is one of the largest in class. Note the large, unobstructed windows.

The master stateroom of the Prestige 750 is forward and down a couple of steps, but is virtually on the main deck, eliminating the issue of navigating stairways for the owners as well as putting the owner-operator within a few steps of the helm when he or she is below. The aft location of the galley is handy to all four entertaining venues -- the dining table to starboard, the salon, the seating area on the aft deck and the stairs ascending to the flying bridge. TAHOE 550 TS:
Sizzling Outboard Performance

Tahoe 550 TS
Powered with the optional 150 Mercury 4-stroke, the 19'10" TAHOE 550 TS delivers impressive performance all across our "test results" chart. See it here...

Standard power on the value-priced Tahoe 550 TS package is a 115-hp outboard, but our crew tested her with the optional 150-hp Mercury 4-stroke and found impressive performance. Turning a 19''-pitch, three-blade prop, she topped out at 48.8 mph at 5800 rpms. Her most fuel-efficient ride was at 3000 rpms and 24.0 mph, where she burned just 3.9 gph, traveled 6.1 miles per gallon. Time to plane was 4.5 seconds. More...

Ocean Alexander 100 Motoryacht:
Ocean-Going Luxury,
Long Range Cruising

Ocean Alexander 100 Motoryacht
The Ocean Alexander 100 Motoryacht reaches 23 knots at full throttle turning 2300 rpm with twin CAT diesels. At displacement speeds she can be oceanic.

With a pair of 1925-hp CAT C-32 ACERTs turning 50 x 46 1/2 Nibral props, the Ocean Alexander 100 Motoryacht reached just under 20 knots at the CAT recommended cruise of 80% load, turning 2076 rpm with a 170 gph fuel burn. But it’s in displacement mode that she really shines. Anywhere from 1250 rpm down will have the range in the thousands of nautical miles. She’ll cruise at 10.6 kts for over 2,100 nm. At 9 kts she'll go 2,800 nm. Handling around the docks is exemplary thanks to a 55-hp bow thruster and 40-hp stern thruster plus 9-square-foot rudders. More...

Glastron GT 225:
Retro Runabout Designed for Families

Glastron GT 225
A classic swooping hull/deck bond line, a roadster-style windshield and the return of the “reverse spear” gel scheme adds a retro look to the Glastron GT 225, an otherwise modern and well-equipped family runabout.

U-shaped stern seating provides space for the family in the Glastron GT 225, and full bolsters up front provide added comfort there. The aft sun pad also converts to an aft-facing seat as well as a side-facing chaise lounge. The retro theme is carried through on the interior with push-pull switches instead of rockers or toggles and roadster-style gauges with the look of a vintage Corvette. A Sony stereo and color-matched tandem trailer are standard features, making this a turn-key package. More...

Jeanneau Velasco 43F:
Short -- or -- Long Range Coastal Cruiser

Jeanneau Velasco 43F
Changes in the design of the windshield distinguish the new Jeanneau Velasco 43F from the standard 43, but interior features and ergonomics are largely identical.

With two private, en suite staterooms, the 43F becomes a comfortable vessel for two couples on longer cruises. Convertible seating in the salon means the boat can accommodate a growing family. Driven by pair of 380-hp 6.7-liter Cummins diesel inboards with V-drive transmissions, she is a planing cruiser that has low drive train maintenance costs. With bow and stern thrusters standard and a sliding door adjacent to the lower helm, she should be easy to dock short-handed. More...

Prop Selection

PowerTech 4-blade Prop:
Four Blades Can Be Better Than Three

PowerTech 4-blade prop
A four-blade prop like this one from PowerTech can cure a variety of ills on some boat/motor combinations.

Whether there are issues in fuel mileage, speed, hole shot, handling or load-carrying, the right prop for the job can often solve performance problems in a given boat and motor package. One solution for boats that are stern-heavy is adding blade area and thus lift aft via a four-blade propeller like those from PowerTech, as opposed to the more common three-blade models. More...

Sailfish 270CC:
Ruggedly Constructed and Priced Right

Sailfish 270CC
The Sailfish 270CC delivers good performance with moderate power packages thanks to weight-saving construction techniques and VDS hull.

The Sailfish 270CC has a variable degree deadrise (VDS) hull, with a deeper V -- up to 24 degrees at the transom -- in the center of the boat, flattening toward the chines. The design is aimed at delivering a soft ride in rough water while still providing low speed stability, quick planing and fuel efficiency. She comes with a full suite of fishing necessities, including dual livewells, bait prep center and loads of rod storage. More...

REGENCY 254 LE3:
Premium Pontoon Boat w/ 47-MPH WOT

Regency 254 LE3
Powder-coated rails, Bimini hardware and pontoon logs and bronze-colored side fences give the REGENCY 254 LE3 an upscale look. Note the full-width access to the outboard aft of the rear fence.

The 254 LE3 is REGENCY Boats’ flagship entry into the high-end luxury pontoon boat market. Major features include an adjustable, reclining swivel helm seat with self-leveling arms and an electrically-actuated, color-keyed Sunbrella Bimini top with LED lights as standard equipment. Pursuit OS 325 Offshore:
Pocket Sportfisher w/ Luxury Build

Pursuit OS 325 Offshore
The comfortable elevated helm chair and broad, unobstructed windshield offer excellent lines of sight for the captain aboard the Pursuit OS 325 Offshore.

Nothing is more important than the view ahead in a planing hull and the Pursuit OS 325 makes this exceptional thanks to an optically clear, single-piece laminated front windshield with excellent sight lines from the helm chair. Like most Pursuit models the OS 325 Offshore delivers battlewagon quality and amenities in a smaller and more economical footprint. There is a 5-year structural warranty on the hull and deck, plus a 5-year warranty against hull blistering. More...
