Evinrude i-Dock:
Single-Handed Docking
With Multiple Outboards

Evinrude i-Dock
The Evinrude i-Dock system provides single-lever low-speed control for multi-outboard set ups, making docking exceptionally easy even for those with minimal experience.

The Evinrude i-Dock system provides independent electronic control of multi-engine set ups, allowing the boat to be eased forward, back, directly sideways, or to fully rotate in its own length at the touch of the control lever. The computerized system gives total control of docking situations, even where wind and tide are major factors. More...

Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 409:
Versatile with Four Interior Options

Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 409
The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 409 has a LOA of 40'6” (12.3 m), a beam of 13’1” (3.99 m) and a draft of 6’11” (2.1 m).

Jeanneau tells us that the Sun Odyssey 409 represents the first of a new generation of Sun Odyssey sailboats. It’s at once a capable cruising boat and a club racing boat, as well. With this latest version, Jeanneau set out to up-grade virtually all important aspects of the boat where possible. She’s customizable, being available in two or three stateroom versions with one or two heads. Jeanneau is known for its advanced design and engineering of performance cruisers, while still careful to offer boats at a competitive price-point and this model is no exception. More...

Sea Ray 205 Sport:
Premium Sport Rig Tests Fast

Sea Ray 205 Sport
The Sea Ray 205 Sport features an integral swim platform that increases the waterline length and adds buoyancy aft as well as improving eye appeal over a bolt-on platform.

The Sea Ray 205 Sport is the ideal size for a family runabout/day boat, big enough at 21' (6.40 m) LOA to soften moderate chop, yet small enough to be easily handled and trailered. She provides excellent WOT speed on single-engine power, topping out at 50.1 mph in our test runs with the 220-hp MerCruiser 4.3 liter MPI. More...

Boston Whaler 320 Vantage:
Large Dual-Console Offers Overnighting

Boston Whaler 320 Vantage
The Boston Whaler 320 Vantage is an XL bowrider/offshore fisherman that also manages to fit in a summer "kitchen", enclosed head and compact -- but usable -- overnight accommodations.

With two 350-hp Mercury outboards turning 14 5/8 x 17 Rev 4 props, the Boston Whaler 320 Vantage reached a top speed at 6350 rpm of 49.1 mph in our test runs. She had a time to plane of 3.9 seconds, reached 20 mph in 5.3 seconds and 30 mph in 9.0 seconds. She delivered the solid ride in a chop typical of Boston Whaler's unique construction process, and the Mercury Joystick system made docking a no-brainer. More...

Beneteau Oceanis 35:
For Day Sailing and Long Weekends

Beneteau Oceanis 35
The Beneteau Oceanis 35 is in the sweet spot of the racer/cruiser sailboat market because she is so versatile and easy to sail.

Most people use their sailboats for day sailing on weekends and maybe for some Wednesday-night racing around the buoys. We think for that kind of activity a 35’ (10.7 m) sailboat is an ideal size. She’s easy to handle, not much work to set and douse sails, and clean-up at day’s end is quick. However, if a couple gets the urge to cruise to Maine or the Bahamas either alone or with another couple, she has the seaworthiness and the room below to easily handle that mission, too. If children are part of the crew, they can help with lines and are secure in the cockpit. We think that for many couples the Oceanis 35 is not too big and not too small, but should be just right. Chaparral Aerial Surf Platform:
New Jetboat Wake Maker

Chaparral Aerial Surf Platform
One of the unique features of the Chaparral 243 VRX is the Aerial Surf Platform, which can assist in shaping the boat's wake for wake-surfing and other board sports.

The Chaparral Aerial Surf Platform (ASP), available on the 243 VRX jetboat, helps shape the wake for board sports, in combination with adjustable water ballast that maxes out at 1,360 lbs (617 kg). With the system, it's possible to create towering wakes at moderate speeds ideal for surfing, and by filling only one of the ballast bags, the wake can be directed to one side or the other. Having no spinning props close to the surfer is a big plus -- the boat is powered with twin 250-hp Rotax jet systems. More...

Pursuit OS 325 Offshore:
Pocket Sportfisher with a 10'10" Beam

Pursuit OS 325 Offshore
At 34’6” (10.52 m) long with a 10’10” (3.30 m) beam, the Pursuit OS 325 Offshore is big enough to handle offshore conditions and small enough to not intimidate drivers stepping up to their first twin-engine boat.

The Pursuit OS 325 Offshore might be seen as a "pocket" sportfisherman in the luxury build class. She's small enough for single-handing by an avid and experienced angler, yet big enough -- and more than comfortable enough -- to handle a large family for a weekend, or to fish far offshore in any reasonable sea conditions. Bayliner 190 DB:
Outboard or Sterndrive Power

Bayliner 190 DB
The roomy Bayliner 190 DB is unique among the company's deckboats in that she's available with outboard power, and she also offers some creative uses of onboard space.

The outboard-powered Bayliner 190 DB has extended swim platforms on either side of the engine, providing added usable space for swimming, gearing up for tow sports or simply lounging around wet. A wide bow that carries the beam well forward, allows for plenty of seating inside the 190 DB, giving her a rated capacity of 11. A Porta-Potti and changing room are useful family options. More...

Sun Tracker Bass Buggy 16 DLX ET:
Electric Powered Mini-Pontoon Boat

Sun Tracker Bass Buggy 16 DLX ET
The Sun Tracker Bass Buggy 16 DLX ET breaks new ground in a production pontoon boat by coming equipped with a Torqeedo electric motor with lithium battery as the primary propulsion system. The company says it will push the boat at 4 to 6 mph.

The electric-powered Sun Tracker Bass Buggy 16 DLX ET is a new way to sneak up on the fish, with a nearly silent Torqeedo electric motor as standard power. This power and the 4 to 6 mph speed necessarily limits her to smaller waters, but as a pond boat that delivers lots of fishing space at an affordable price, she's an interesting contender -- one that would be welcome on the increasing numbers of "no-internal-combustion-motors" preserves popping up around the country. Formula 310 Bowrider
The Formula 310 Bowrider is a roomy, premium-quality day boat with luxurious amenities and exciting performance, designed to handle large lakes or offshore operations as well as more placid waters.

Best cruise was 3500 rpm, with an average speed of 31.6 mph to deliver 1.59 mpg. She got on plane in just 3.7 seconds. More...

Cruisers Sport Series 275 Express:
A Day Boat that Sleeps 4

Cruisers Sport Series 275 Express
The size and layout of the Cruisers Sport Series 275 Express make her a versatile platform, equally ready for a day of watersports with the family or overnighting at a favorite destination.

The Cruisers Sport Series 275 Express puts her tall freeboard to good use forward, fitting a dinette capable of seating six into the cabin. This area converts to a roomy overnight spot with the addition of a center cushion, and an added double berth mid-cabin provides sleeping room for the kids. The cockpit includes a wet bar, and a handsomely-upholstered double-wide three-position sun lounge/seat facing aft. This boat has been designed to handle "big water" as well as lakes and rivers. Yamaha FX Cruiser SVHO:
Top-of-The-Line Luxury and Performance

Yamaha FX Cruiser SVHO
The Yamaha FX Cruiser SVHO is the company's flagship PWC, fully-loaded with convenience and performance features including the computer-assisted RiDE system.

With the highest top speed and a lightning quick 0 to 30 mph time of under 2 seconds in our test runs, the supercharged Yamaha FX Cruiser SVHO is clearly a red-hot performer, but she also delivers a top-end level of standard equipment not seen in many PWCs. The RiDE dual-throttle control system not only provides a remarkable level of ease in handling around the docks, but also brought the vessel to a stop from top speed in about half the normal distance. Cruise assist, no-wake mode and power trim are also standard. More...

Beneteau Gran Turismo 35:
Open Day Boat Alternative

Beneteau Gran Turismo 35
The Beneteau Gran Turismo 35 has the bones of an offshore express, but the deck and cockpit design of a large day boat. She has a 37'7” (11.46 m) LOA with an 11’1” (3.38 m) beam.

Most “offshore-ready” express boats this size devote premium space to overnight accommodations that are seldom used. The folks at Beneteau know that, which is why they have introduced the Gran Turismo 35 – a versatile vessel that creates the space, seating and amenities of the most expensive day boat, while still providing a small cabin for short-term overnighting. Everglades 230 DC:
Level Flotation in a 23'7" Dual Console

Everglades 230 DC
The broad beam forward on the Everglades 230 DC allows adequate space for two adults to enjoy the bow seating, at rest or underway. (Note their feet and knees.)

The Everglades 230 DC has a strong fishing heritage, but she's also a well-equipped dual-console family rig with plenty of seating fore and aft. The company's tradition of level flotation when swamped is carried out in the 230 DC, adding a level of security not found in most boats over 20' (6.10 m) long. No issues with lost cushions on this boat: Everglades uses wing nuts on the underside of the forward lockers to anchor the cushions in place. More...

Lesson of the Week

Boating Under the Influence

Capt. Steve Smart Boating Cover
Captain Steve says don’t drink and operate a boat – it’s not worth it.

This week’s lesson from Captain Steve is straightforward and should go without saying – operating a boat under the influence is a local, state, and federal crime. Captain Steve goes over your responsibilities as captain – to other boaters on the water, to your passengers, and to yourself. He will explain what the parameters are to be considered boating under the influence. The four videos presented this week are part of BoatTEST.com's USCG-approved boating course. Watch Captain Steve’s video boating lessons every week on BoatTEST.com.
