World Cat 295CC:
Blue Water Smooth Operator

World Cat 295 CC
The World Cat 295CC is a big, deep, blue-water capable fishing boat, but she delivers levels of seating and lounging comfort rarely seen in a center console.

The World Cat 295CC allows remarkable seating that literally wraps around the bow, creating a gathering area that is on par with much larger boats… as in "yachts". The boat is loaded with clever uses of space, including locking rod boxes hidden away under the coaming bolsters at the bow. But the biggest news of all is about her ride and comfort offshore. Evinrude E-TEC 90 Pontoon Series:
Power to the Pontoon People

Evinrude E-TEC 90 Pontoon Series
The Evinrude E-TEC 90 PS targets twin tube pontoon boats that are from 20' to 22' (6.09 m to 6.71 m) long, delivering improved hole shots, lots of electrical power, good idle and mid-range fuel-efficiency and smooth, quiet operation.

The Evinrude E-TEC 90 Pontoon Series includes special engine mounts to reduce vibration, lower gearing for improved hole shots and changes in the electronic "mapping" to provide power in the lower ranges where pontoons most often need a boost. The magneto puts out over 80 Amps, providing lots of power for electronics and sound systems. More...

Mako 284 CC:
Get to the Fish Fast

Mako 284 CC
The Mako 284 CC we tested is a big, deep and exceptionally fast offshore center console designed to take anglers out where the billfish and tuna roam, fish hard all day and then bring the team home safe.

Our test captain found the Mako 284 CC to be a spirited performer when powered by twin 300-hp Mercury Verados, with a top speed of 54.5 mph -- among the fastest offshore center console boats in class. And, with lots of freeboard and flare forward, she should deliver a dry ride even upwind, while the 21-degree deadrise at the transom softens the waves. More...

Pursuit OS 385 Offshore:
Pocket Sportfisher with Premium Finish

Pursuit OS 385 Offshore
Pursuit's OS 385 Offshore is a first-class fishing and cruising machine that can handle most of the same seas as million-dollar twin-diesel sportfishers, and do so at a fraction of the purchase price and operating cost.

The Pursuit OS 385 Offshore comes fully-loaded for serious angling, with standard equipment including dual freezers, two 68-gallon (257 L) in-deck fishboxes with macerators, a 50-gallon (189 L) recirculating livewell and well-equipped rigging station. A 300-quart (284 L) transom fishbox is refrigerated and can be cooled down to freezing via the digitally-controlled thermostat. The deck comes reinforced for the installation of a fighting chair. But what really sets this boat apart from others in class is her fit-and-finish and the “best practices” used in her equipment installations. More...

Volvo Penta V8-380:
New 6.0L Engine Improves the Power Curve

Volvo Penta V8-380
The Volvo Penta V8-380 takes advantage of several advances in technology that allow it to run smoother and cleaner while burning less fuel. Other attributes give it higher torque in certain rpm ranges and better load carrying abilities than previously possible with the company's big block V8s.

The Volvo Penta 6.0 L 380-hp V8 is lighter than its predecessor big block 8.1 L V8, weighing just 867 lbs. (394 kgs.) compared to over 1,000 lbs. (454.5 kgs) thanks to improvements like aluminum heads and oil pan. Variable valve timing delivers faster acceleration, increased top speed and smoother and better response in the mid-range, according to the builder. Closed loop cooling is standard, eliminating corrosion issues in salt water use. More...

Beneteau Hull and Deck:
Incorporating New Processes

Beneteau Hull and Deck
BoatTEST's COO Christopher Hughes inspects the hull of a Beneteau sailboat as it is readied for the vacuum infusing process.

Beneteau has been building boats for 130 years and their current offerings include over 150 models spanning sail and power from 16 to 120 feet. We went inside several of their facilities to see the three processes they use to build their hulls and decks. Each process is matched to the individual model's application and production run to maximize both quality and efficiency. Find out more...

Formula 45 Yacht:
New Model Has Greater Utility/More Sizzle

Formula 45 Yacht
The Formula 45 Yacht is the company's flagship model, and she's set up to transition seamlessly between dayboating, cruising and entertaining. Two staterooms make her a good choice for cruising couples, and her new enclosed coupe gives her more utility.

The new model Formula 45 Yacht for 2015 has a number of important new changes that give her far greater utility and function. For example, note the glass cabin bulkhead and extended coach roof in the image above. She also has three large sun pads – two aft and one forward – making her the rival of any boat in class in the Med. But that’s just the beginning. More...

A Head-Turning Sportboat

Regal 1900 ESX
Regal's 1900 ESX has an expanded gathering area, sport graphics and new color schemes aimed at attracting the younger demographic to which this type of boat appeals.

Bold hull side graphics gives the Regal 1900 ESX sport boat an added bit of “edginess”, and vibrant color choices on the bolsters and seats are available to set a whole new tone and feel for the interior, as well. The FasTrac stepped hull delivers impressive performance on moderate power, according to our test captain, and handling is as expected in a sport-class boat. More...

Yamaha VX Cruiser
The Yamaha VX Cruiser is a three-rider WaveRunner that virtually any family can afford, yet it offers the features, performance, handling and reliability expected of more expensive machines.

Glastron GT 205:
Versatile Layouts in a Retro-Look Bowrider

Glastron GT205
Glastron's GT 205 is a sporty bowrider with a retro sports car look: our test captain found her to be well-built and feature-rich.

Glastron's GT 205 bowrider is available in three layouts: the base GT 205, the sporty GTS 205, or the fish-and-ski GTSF 205. All are available with Mercury or Volvo Penta engines in power ranging from 220-hp to 320-hp, along with a choice of outdrives. Bow and stern swivel fishing seats, trolling motor and livewell turn the F version into a fish-and-ski, assuredly one that will turn heads among the fishing crew not used to the retro look. More...

Lesson of the Week

Negligent Boat Operation Is a Federal Crime

Lesson of the Week Smart Boating
Captain Steve says boat smart to avoid all penalties of poor judgment!

In this week's lesson Captain Steve points out some examples of what boating negligence is and the penalties boaters may face. The obvious lesson here is that if smart boating is practiced, boaters avoid all penalties of poor judgment. There is also a helpful video on what to do if stopped by the authorities. The videos presented this week are part of Captain Steve’s USCG-approved boating course called “Smart Boating.” Watch these video boating lessons every week on BoatTEST.com.
