New Jeanneau NC9:
A "Big" 30' Cruiser

Jeanneau NC9
The new Jeanneau NC9 has a hull length of 29'10" (9.11 m) and is 31'5" (9.61 m) overall. Her beam is 10'5" (3.20 m) and she displaces 7,992 lbs. (3,625 kgs.).

Jeanneau created the NC9 to provide a boatload of utility in an economical package. The builder managed to keep the affordable side of the equation by reducing the glitz and accoutrements that are often installed in boats in this size range that do not add to the function or performance of the vessel. As for the utility the NC9 actually has more than most boats her size (and that's why we call her "big") due to innovative design elements that allow one thing to serve several purposes. These distinguishing features can be seen at nearly every turn. The “NC” stands for New Concept, and we think this is one of the most exciting new designs that we've seen since… well, since the NC11. See for yourself...

Sea-Doo GTX Limited iS 260:
PWC for Summer Fun

Sea-Doo GTX Limited iS 260
From the side, the GTX Limited iS 260 has a sleek and stylish look. Notice the plush driver’s seat with raised backrest.

The heart of the GTX is a powerful propulsion system. The GTX Limited iS 260 has a 1503 XHO Rotax 4-TEC engine. This is a 1,494 cc four-stroke multiport injected engine with a supercharger that has an external intercooler and a closed-loop cooling system. But there is a lot more going on in this luxury PWC and some of it is pretty high-tech. More...

World Cat 255 DC:
Roomy, Stable and Seaworthy

World Cat 255 DC
Although she’s only 26’ (7.92 m), this dual console has more room than some much larger boats we’ve tested.

World Cat has created another crossover platform between family cruising and hard-core fishing. Most often, when we see this sort of thing take place it means little more than adding a fish box and a livewell. But World Cat has gone well beyond those basic attributes. This is one of the most spacious boats in class and has a large enclosed head.  Add dual fish boxes, dual casting decks, and rugged offshore performance capabilities and you start to see what we mean. Our full features video shows that the World Cat 255 DC is more than the sum of its parts. See it...

Princecraft SVX 27 I/O:
An Extraordinary Tri-toon

Princecraft SVX 27 I/O
The Princecraft SVX 27 I/O pictured above can be powered by the standard 4.3 L 220-hp MerCruiser or an optional 300-hp 350 MAG.

The Princecraft SVX 27 comes in two versions: one an I/O (pictured above) and the other powered by an outboard engine. The SVX 27 I/O is a deluxe pontoon boat with great utility. We think the most outstanding feature on this toon is the massive aft deck combined with the large, nearly full-beam swim platform. The sterndrive engine box provides an ideal place to mount an aft-facing seat from which to put on boards or watch the kids swimming. The swim platform also extends well beyond the lower unit. But this is only the beginning of the story of this unusual watercraft. See our full report and a promotional video...

Tigé R20:
Entry Level But Feature Rich

Tigé R20 image of Steve driving that shows the entire boat
Although an entry level model, Tigé did not scale down the design, the build or the features in the R20.

After our test of the R20 there was little doubt that Tigé had built a cool looking-good driving tow boat. Then we noticed that the builder also included a long list of features as standard even though the boat has an entry-level price. As tested the R20 comes with a 5.0L PCM 303-hp engine, tower, great looking upholstery, plenty of storage, and an overall build quality we would put in the top tier -- all in a package priced under $53,000. See what's different about this model in our full test and review video...

Video of an Engine Room

Cruisers Yachts 48 Cantius
Capt. Steve literally takes the measure of the engine room aboard the Cruisers Yachts 48 Cantius in a special video.

Every once in awhile we come across something on a boat that we feel merits special attention because it has been done so well. We often then make a video of it so that our members can improve their connoisseurship of how truly first-class yachts should be built. Such is the case with the engine room of the Cruisers Yachts 48 Cantius. See the video...

Pursuit ST 310:
A Multi-Purpose, Offshore Open Boat

Pursuit ST310
Capt. Steve ponders the five posh seats in the cockpit and general design execution in the Pursuit ST 310.

A truly world-class build in a multi-purpose 31' boat is a joy to behold for boaters who want the very best. The Pursuit ST 310 is a remarkable boat from her concept, her design and layout, right down to the details of her systems installation. It all has to be seen to be believed and thanks to Capt. Steve's in-depth video you can see her quality systems hardware and installation. The Flagship Runabout

With an LOA of 21'8" (6.6 m) and a dry weight of 3500 pounds (1587 kg) the Q8 SSi Tahoe is the brand's largest sportboat.

The Quality Is in the Details

Monte Carlo Yachts 76
If you're looking for a yacht that draws attention wherever she goes, then we have a video that should get your scrutiny.

The Monte Carlo Yachts 76 has won so many awards that we've lost count. A lot of her award-winning qualities have to do with her clever layout and functionality, but the quality of her components and attention to detail, also speak volumes about the build. Evinrude E-TEC 50-hp:
Two-Stroke Evolution

Evinrude E-TEC 50-hp image of the engine top off
Under the shroud of the Evinrude E-TEC 50-hp is the computer, specialized direct fuel injection system and the latest in engine technology.

This computer controlled inline two-cylinder, two stroke engine easily delivers 50-hp in a package that weighs less than 255 lbs. With several key technology differences, our test showed they all came together to provide good fuel consumption numbers, smooth shifting, and quiet overall operation. We tested this engine in a typical application: a 16 foot aluminum fishing boat. Go deeper and see what makes this little power pack tick...

Tracker Pro Team 175 TWX:
All-Welded Aluminum Construction

Tracker Pro Team 175 TWX
At 993 pounds (450 kg) and 17'7" (5.36 m) LOA, the Pro Team 175 is easily trailerable by small to midsize vehicles.

Our tests show that this Tracker Pro Team 175 is not only one of the most comfortable boats we've ever been on in class, but also one of the best riding. This is probably why Tracker goes so far as to guarantee a smooth ride… and the 175 TWX delivers. Since she's well-equipped for the professional level, amateurs will certainly find nothing to want. Our full test and features video shows both the features and handling characteristics. More...

Four Winns V475 Express Coupe:
Loaded With Standard Equipment

Four Winns V475 Express Coupe
The Four Winns V475 is 49'4" (15.03 m) x 14' (3.66 m) x 43" (109 cm) and weighs about 30,000 lbs. (13,600 kgs.) Her deadrise at the transom is 19 degrees.

The flagship of the Four Winns fleet is its V475 Express Coupe powered standard by twin 435-hp IPS600s with joystick. This twin stateroom, two-head boat is remarkable for the amount of standard equipment that is packed into her MSRP of $773,846. She comes equipped with virtually everything you need to immediately take off for the Bahamas or the far north. Just add is fuel and food. Shove off here...

Regal 35 Sport Coupe:
“OceanTrac” Provides Good Handling

Regal 35 Sport Coupe:
The Regal 35 Sport Coupe is quick out of the gate and handles choppy conditions with aplomb.

The all-new Regal 35 Sport Coupe features standing head room for the skipper even with the large sun roof closed, reversible seat backs that permit both a lounger in the bridge deck and a dinette on the aft deck, and a clever convertible arrangement below that maximizes both seating and sleeping space. Perhaps most important is the handling of the boat, which our captain states is one of the best in class, no doubt due to what Regal calls its “OceanTrac” hull design. Read more...

Mako 212 Center Console:
Few Frills But Affordable

Mako 212 Center Console
We tested a Mako 212 CC powered by a 225-hp Mercury Verado L6 outboard. Her top speed was 41.0 mph. Best cruise was at 3500 rpm going 24.3 mph, getting 3.19 mpg.

Mako's entry into the 21' class of center consoles is a good, solid, no-frills (but does include recessed trim tabs) boat that has an MSRP price of $49,640 when powered with a 225-hp Verado like the one we tested. (Not including trailer.) Option it out with a T-top, bow cushions, aft center folding seat, dual-battery rigging, outriggers, compass, portable head and tilt steering and the MSRP is $56,065, plus dealer prep and freight. Powered with a 150-hp Merc Optimax she is less, of course. Take a look at our test video and captain's report...

Shurhold PVA Towel
Is Put Through the Ringer

Shurhold Products
PVA towels are better than a natural chamois.

When we asked the team at Shurhold what was different about their PVA towels they told us that they absorb 50 percent more water than natural chamois, making for faster and more effective drying. We gave the towels a shot on our test boat after a few hours on the water in Long Island Sound. We washed her down with fresh water and wiped her down from the windscreen to the keel. The total elapsed time to completely dry a 24' boat was 11 minutes and 20 seconds. Take our word for it, there were no spots or streaks left behind, just a nice shine. The towels come in an extra large size of 17" x 27" (43 cm x 69 cm). Visit Shurhold to order...
