Everglades 230 DC:
A Family, Fish, and Watersports Dayboat

Everglades 230 DC
The Everglades 230 DC is a bowrider recently launched by a company well known for building strong center consoles.

Here’s an impressive boat with an equally impressive set of features that has her in contention with a short list of our favorites. Not only are the multiple functions well executed, but the level of attention to detail, innovations and thoughtful features are what set all Everglades boats apart.  Let’s take a look at the video...

Prestige 60:
A Serious Bluewater Cruiser

Prestige 60
Captain Steve brings the Prestige 60 into the Port at Cannes, France and so starts a love affair.

Not only is the Prestige 60 a very capable, 3 stateroom/ 3 head cruiser but, because she’s built by Beneteau, she is value-worthy as well.  As for handling, we were impressed from the moment we untied the lines.  She’s IPS powered with joystick functionality, so she’ll be easy for anyone to handle. She even has 6'5'' (1.95 m) of clearance in the engine room.  We have made two detailed videos showing the important details of this boat -- one on performance, and one on the interior.  Take your pick, or pick both...

2012 Tigé Z3:
Wake's Up! Surf's Up!

Tigé Z3
Look at the wake behind this Tigé Z3! The dad on the board is wake surfing, a sport that is picking up in popularity, and should only be done behind inboard powered or jet boats.

Aspiring to be the “go-to” model for enthusiasts jumping on the wake-surfing craze, Tigé offers the new Z3 inboard for 2012. By being able to select the size and shape of the wake it creates – and even which side it appears on – the Z3 allows the operator to customize the waves for everything from waterskiing and wakeboarding to the popular new sport of wakesurfing. Here is the ultimate "Endless Wave." Let’s see how Tigé does it...

Sea Ray 470 Sundancer:
Engine Room Details Video

Sea Ray 470 Sundancer
The Sea Ray 470 Sundancer is an easy boat to operate, but how easy is she to maintain?

While Sea Ray’s new 470 Sundancer is impressive in her own right, we wanted to take a more technical look. For that reason, today we raise the electrically actuated engine hatch and step into into a detailed video walk-through of the engine room features. Let's see how Sea Ray has done...

New Captain's Report

New Regal 27 FasDeck:
Deckboat With Regal Styling

Regal 27 FasDeck
Regal’s new 27 FasDeck measures in at 27'3" (8.3 m) with an 8'6" (2.6 m) beam. Top speed came in at 46.2 mph when powered by a 300-hp 5.7 L Volvo Penta engine.

A 27' (8.22 m) bowrider is a big boat and a 27' deckboat is even bigger. Add to that a pickle-fork bow, a stepped hull, higher freeboard, a large head, and a 21-degree deadrise bottom at the transom and you have the makings of an all-day party boat on the water. Regal has pulled out all of the stops with its new 27 FasDeck. If you want to crank her up to full watersports mode, then you'll want the RX version. Let's jump aboard and get the full report...

Scout 177 Winyah:
4 Models for a Perfect Match

Scout 177 Winyah
The 177 Winyah is the newest of Scout’s four-model 177 Series for 2012.

The Scout 177 Series of flats/bay boats comes in four different models and all are very competitively priced. The concept of the four models is to be able to allow consumers to very nearly match the kind of boating they plan to do. Some people may want to just take some evening cruises in skinny water, while others might like to pole into the weeds and marshes to find elusive game fish. Still others are casual fishermen and there is a model for them, as well as for the die-hard, neither-rain-nor-snow-or-the-dark-of-night types. Today we're going to look at the 177 Winyah. Set your hook here...

Yamaha FZ Series:
Two New Colors of Muscle

Yamaha FZ Series
The FZ series of Waverunners from Yamaha consists of two models, the FZS and FZR, both designed for riding hard and fast.

Yamaha's musclecraft line is well known for speed, power and good looks. One of those good features is about to take a shot of adrenaline as two new colors were recently introduced into the FZ Series. We caught sight of these new machines sporting their new colors at the New York Boat Show and we think they look awesome.  But there is much more to these watercraft than exciting new colors, so let's take a video look...

Maritimo 500 Offshore Convertible:
Emphasis On Comfort and Performance

Maritimo 500 Offshore Convertible
The Maritimo 500 Convertible is over 54’ (16.5 m) long counting her bow pulpit and swim platform. At 49,606 lbs. (22,500 kgs.) displacement she is in the middle of 50-foot convertible fleet.

Maritimo is the second largest builder of large motoryachts in Australia, building 15 models from 44’ to 60’ (13.7 to 18.2 m). Its 500 Convertible is fairly typical of its models and is in the middle of its size range. Most builders of convertibles started out building sportfishermen, but Maritimo entered from the cruising side of the game. Because of that, its approach to the convertible concept is a bit different than most builders. Let's take a look...

Inside the Factory

Meridian Yachts:
Construction Videos

Meridian Factory
This is what the engine compartment of a Meridian Yacht looks like while the boat is under construction. Note that this boat has pod drives.

If you have ever wondered how large yachts are built, or more specifically, how Meridian Yachts are built, then we have two videos that will help explain. First, forget about a "production line." Large yachts are built one at a time and while they may be moved along in the factory to different stations, in fact the shop floor personnel come to them rather than the other way around. It's as complicated as building a house, but it is done in just a few cubic feet. See how it's done...

Evinrude E-TEC 250 H.O.:
E-TEC Is High-Tech

"H.O." stands for more than just High Output - with Evinrude it also means there is a special package of upgrades to improve the overall outboard experience.

The team at Evinrude has continued to evolve the technology behind two-stroke engines, showing boaters that these engines will be around as long as the 4-stroke.  Most people are not familiar with how the new high-tech E-TEC Evinrude engines are designed or their key features. We have been pulling off the covers to show you some of the details, but this video goes even deeper.  See the full review video and all the details that make this engine hum...

Shurhold PVA Towel
Is Put Through the Ringer

PVA towels are better than a natural chamois.

When we asked the team at Shurhold what was different about their PVA towels they told us that they absorb 50 percent more water than natural chamois, making for faster and more effective drying. We gave the towels a shot on our test boat after a few hours on the water in Long Island Sound. We washed her down with fresh water and wiped her down from the windscreen to the keel. The total elapsed time to completely dry a 24' boat was 11 minutes and 20 seconds. Take our word for it, there were no spots or streaks left behind, just a nice shine. The towels come in an extra large size of 17" x 27" (43 cm x 69 cm). Visit Shurhold to order...

Lesson of the Week

Boating Under the Influence

Lesson of the Week Smart Boating
Capt. Steve says don’t drink and operate a boat – it’s not worth it!

This week’s lesson from Captain Steve is straight forward and should go without saying – operating a boat under the influence is a local, state, and federal crime. Captain Steve goes over your responsibilities as captain – to other boaters on the water, to your passengers, and to yourself. He will explain what the parameters are to be considered boating under the influence. The four videos presented this week are part of Captain Steve’s USCG-approved boating course called “Smart Boating.” Watch Captain Steve’s video boating lessons every week on
