Brighten Your Old Gel Coat

Have you ever seen a new boat that has a gel coat finish that is so bright and glossy that you want to rub your
hand over it and feel its soft, silky contours? Have you ever seen an old boat where
you have wanted to do that? Weather, UV, oxidation, abrasions, scratches and just
plain normal use all take a heavy toll on delicate gel coat. We have found a product
that the boatyard pros use that is economical, easy to apply and can make an old
boat look like new for under $29. It is called Yacht Brite "Buff Magic," and in
2003 it won the NMMA’s Innovation Award.

Yacht Brite
Yacht Brite "Buff Magic" is what the pros use to make old boats look like new.

In the harsh marine environment, a boat's gel coat can dry out and oxidize, reducing
the clarity of color and shine of the hull, deck, flybridge, hardtop and other fiberglass
surfaces. Yacht Brite's "Buff Magic" is an easy-to-use fiberglass re-conditioner
that removes all oxidation and dirt, restoring the boat's original high gloss finish.

Traditional rubbing compounds contain harsh abrasives which can scratch and further
dull a boat's fiberglass. Buff Magic is formulated to be user friendly whether buffing
with a machine or by hand and will not swirl or burn like other gel coat compounds,
according to the manufacturer. It produces a high gloss index and is cleaner to
use than other products. Buff Magic also saves boaters time and effort, requiring
less compound and fewer passes of the buffer to produce a brilliant shine.

According to the company which makes it, one 22 ounce container restores an entire
40' boat. After a treatment of Buff Magic, the Yacht Brite company recommends applying
a coat of Pro Polish to seal and protect the finish. Buff Magic can be safely and
effectively used on other surfaces as well. As a restoration polish, it can provide
a brilliant shine to most common marine metal finishes. Scratches on Plexiglas and
Isinglass can also be quickly removed, leaving a clear and clean surface. Available
in a 22 ounce container, Buff Magic retails for $28.98. In a 16 ounce bottle, Pro
Polish retails for $22.98.
