Brief Summary

The World Cat 320CC was built with both durability and comfort in mind. The double-wide helm seat is heavily padded and covered in thick vinyl that should give many years of service. Flip-up bolsters on both sides ease the ride when the going gets rough. The sharp entry of the twin cat hulls slice through rollers and sloppy conditions are not likely to be high on the list of concerns for World Cat owners.

    Distinguishing Features

    Large Forward Seating.

Because of the 320CC’s width, and since most catamarans carry the width all the way to the bow (instead of narrowing, or pinching, in a monohull), the forward seating can comfortably sit 6 adults. This is accomplished without a major loss of deck space.

    World Cat 320CC
Thanks to the 320CC’s generous forward beam, the bow area can seat a crowd.

    Glass Windshield/Enclosure.

The 320CC features a safety glass wraparound windshield. This protects passengers from the elements, supports the hardtop and improves the styling of the console. It comes complete with a pantograph windshield wiper and rinse nozzle.

    World Cat 320CC
The full glass windshield provides superior protection and comes with a single windshield wiper.

    Performance and Handling

We have not had the opportunity to test the 320CC but outboard manufacturers have run comprehensive sea trials. With a test weight of 11,511 lbs. (5,221 kg) and turning 15-1/2x17” stainless steel propellers, in one test the 320CC reportedly reached a top speed of over 52 mph, and had its most economical cruise at around 19 mph, burning about 9 gph.

    Propulsion System

The 320CC has a maximum power rating of 600-hp. This is offered via twin 4-stroke 300-hp outboards, with most the most popular engine packages featuring digital controls.

    World Cat 320CC
Twin 300-hp outboards push the 320CC at a strong pace in myriad conditions.

    Catamaran Advantages

The 320CC rides on World Cat’s patented Vectorflo bottom. Catamarans have many advantages over monohulls. Because the cat has long slender hulls instead of a single, wide one, it tends to slice through the water as opposed to riding on top of it. This also means that the boat operates with planing characteristics, which is important if a captain ever has to get home on one motor. The 320CC easily planes on one 300-hp engine and will “limp” along much faster than a monohull.

    World Cat 320CC
This World Cat exhibits the boat’s ability to run fast on a single engine.

Additionally, catamarans exhibit excellent lateral stability because of their hull shape. With the two hulls spread far apart, there is little lift when weight is applied to the side of the vessel. This means several anglers can fish off of one side of the boat without worrying about the boat leaning.

    Construction

World Cat builds the 320CC using what it calls “Unibody Construction”. The manufacturer says it fuses the hull, deck and stringers, all of which are constructed without wood, into a single unit. Closed cell foam provides insulation and flotation as well as sound deadening. The composite transom is reinforced with aluminum backing plates. Stainless steel pop-up cleats and rodholders are installed with backing plates for strength and longevity. Tinned copper strand wiring meets or exceeds NMMA and ABYC standards.

    Features Inspection

Because the 320CC excels in both categories, it can be viewed as a fishing boat with family features or a family boat with fishing features.

    As a fishing boat

, the 320CC has enough amenities to please even the most serious angler. This starts with over 20 rod holders found throughout the boat.

    World Cat 320CC
Everywhere one looks on the 320CC they’ll find a rodholder.
    World Cat 320CC
The cockpit abaft the helm seat module is sufficiently large for a fishing crowd.

    The cockpit

of the 320CC is large enough for several fishermen to work lines simultaneously. From this area of the boat, the 45-gallon livewell in the leaning post is easily accessible. Additionally, the livewell has a clear lid that allows for inspection of the baits inside without opening the lid. The clear lid also helps keep the baitfish healthy. Constant light penetration means the bait fish are not swimming in the dark and then being subjected to a flood of light every time a solid lid is opened.

    World Cat 320CC
The clear lid on the livewell makes it easy to check on the status of bait and the sink will help cleanup.

    Rod Holders.

Located in the gunwales outboard of the center console are two cleverly designed rod lockers. Thanks to a hinged door, the reel ends of rods can be stowed and locked while the rods travel forward into rod tubes. This is a great way to store rods and to protect them from theft at the dock.

    World Cat 320CC
With the rod-locker door open, the rods can be inserted and secured.

Finally, one thing every fisherman needs is someplace to keep the day’s catch on ice. In the bow, there are two 225-quart insulated compartments under the forward seats, as well as a 105-quart box that drains overboard. Aft, there are two 300-quart fishboxes that are plumbed through macerator pumps, which facilitates cleanup and helps keep the bilge clean. When the fishing is done and it’s time to take the family for a sunset cruise, cleaning the 320CC is a piece of cake. A raw water washdown quickly rids the cockpit of blood and scales and the transom has a 20-gallon freshwater tank with a shower. Most importantly, there is plenty of seating throughout the boat. For socializing in the bow, there is the 6-person forward U-shaped seating and the two person seat in front of the console. Amidships there is the ergonomically designed helm seat with flip-up bolsters. In the stern, there are two fold-out seats in the port and starboard corners that are cushioned.

    World Cat 320CC
Passengers seated in the 320CC’s bow have handrails, cupholders, and storage areas within arm’s reach.

The 320CC also has plenty of hand rails and cupholders throughout the boat, ensuring that all passengers are comfortable and secure while on board. The marine-head is located in the console, with enough headroom to accommodate guests without feeling like they are stepping into a small closet.

    World Cat 320CC
The in-console head compartment includes a porthole to provide natural light and ventilation.

While the World Cat 320CC excels in the above two specialties, it is the subtle touches that appeal to all boaters that set this model a step above the rest.

    In the bow

, straddling the freefall windlass, are two anchor locker hatches that access a storage compartment that connects in the middle and has enough room for all types of gear. This would be a great place to stow lifejackets to keep them readily accessible.

    World Cat 320CC
Two anchor lockers, four cleats, and an anchor pulpit are excellent options for the 320CC’s first mate.

    The stern

of the boat has a large walkthrough transom and a swim platform with handrails and a ladder. Because the motors are spread apart, this is a great place to enter and leave the water, even while equipped with scuba or watersports equipment.

    World Cat 320CC
The large boarding area includes oversized handrails to keep steady even in heavy seas.

    Helm

One of the most important parts of serious offshore fishing boats is an intelligently laid out helm. It helps the captain feel comfortable and in control, with easy access to navigation equipment and to the boat’s numerous systems. The 320CC console has a fiberglass flat that is large enough to mount two 15” screens. This gives the captain the option of viewing the fishfinder, GPS and radar screens simultaneously, which can be advantageous when operating an unknown waterway or trying to find a tricky fishing spot.

    World Cat 320CC
The console can fit 2 15" screens, in addition to gauges and marine-grade rocker switches shown here. There is also a removable panel that can be used to protect the navigation equipment.

The stainless steel steering wheel with a power knob is coupled to a power-assist hydraulic steering system. The steering system and smooth electronic throttle controls make boat handling easier and allow the captain to focus on driving rather than exerting unnecessary energy to control the boat.Perhaps one of the nicest features of the 320CC is the helm seating. The dual chairs have flip-up bolsters that convert from seats to leaning posts. The captain has the option of standing at the helm for maneuvering, or sitting for longer, more comfortable runs.

    World Cat 320CC
The helm seats convert to bolsters with flip-up bottom cushions and include armrests, and storage underneath.

    Options to Consider

As with most boats in this class, the 320CC can be ordered with numerous options to help tailor the boat to the individual owner’s needs and preferences. In the bow, a removable filler piece fits inside the U-shaped forward seating to convert the area into a sun pad. There is also an option to add a removable table in the same location.World Cat offers electronic installations as well, including a Bluetooth stereo system, battery charger, and Sea Vision underwater lights. The 320CC can be ordered with the customer’s choice of hull color, with the options being sapphire blue, platinum grey, aqua mist green, tanglewood tan, fighting lady yellow, or ice blue. Additionally, the fiberglass hardtop can be ordered with the underside colored to match the hull.

    World Cat 320CC
A choice of hull colors gives owners the opportunity to customize the 320CC to their tastes.
    World Cat 320CC
    Fiberglass hardtop with powder-coated frame.

Finally, World Cat offers the option to add Optimus 360 electronic steering with joystick control. This would allow the captain the ability to maneuver the boat in extremely tight corners just by using the joystick – including rotating and “walking” the boat sideways.

    Warranty

The World Cat 320CC shares in common with the rest of the World Cat lineup a 10-year limited hull warranty. The warranty is transferable to a second owner. There is also a one-year components warranty.

    Observations

With a stable, seaworthy hull and plenty of angling and cruising amenities, the World Cat 320CC should accommodate demanding fishermen and fun-seeking families alike. The list of standard features rivals what many other boatbuilders only offer as optional items, and the cleverly designed storage compartments make this boat a winner. With a name like World Cat on the side, the owner also has the peace of mind of knowing that the boat was built using the finest materials by some of the industry’s most experienced craftsmen.
