Not only is the cat design safe, but it’s so easy to build in redundancy where other don’t bother. Case in point... the engines. Yes there are two, but more to the point, they operate on separate fuel and electrical systems. So if you get bad fuel in one tank, you’re not dead in the water and waiting for a tow. Battery systems are just under the helm seat, where they belong.
Fishing Features Forward
The 330 TE is a tournament ready boat. The bow of the 330 offers a great location to spot fish and cast. Aggressive diamond grip covers all the horizontal surfaces. The anchor windlass up front makes setting and pulling the ground tackle easy, and the line lockers were large enough for storing the fenders as well. With the 330 TE, you also have a decent sized cuddy to escape the sun, or catch a short nap between fishing holes. Over on the port side, pulling up the cushions reveals a ceramic marine head that’s standard. Topside again, each corner has power connections for electric reelsor downriggers. Dual 300-quart fish lockers on either side up front offer deep storage for gear or your catch. Gunwale tops have rod holders for trolling, and recessed rails for hanging on when the going gets a bit rough. The redesigned seat in front of the helm will be one of the most demanded seats in the house. It’s not only comfortable, but it also serves as an insulated cooler or additional storage.
At the Helm Station
The hardtop can be ordered with either Taco Grand Slam, or Rupp Top Gun outriggers, and it gave us plenty of cover, handholds and added room for the radios and other electronics. The lights underneath were really slick, and the courtesy lighting was tri-color with the choice of bright white, cool blue, or night vision saving red. With the bait station behind the leaning post on the test model, the two pin spots on the hardtop provided plenty of light to work at night.
The helm station has excellent storage room inside, with well labeled wiring and easy access panels to get to the electronics. At the helm, you have plenty of room for electronics to be added. A great World Cat feature is the covered electronics panel. Not only lockable, but it protects your electronics from weather when the boat is not in use. Our test boat also had the Teleflex Power Assisted hydraulic steering and Teleflex Electronic Throttle and Shift. I’d rather see the engine controls mounted on the horizontal, however, but otherwise, the helm is very nicely laid out. Engine gauges are across the top alongside rocker switches for all electrical. I like how the horn switch stands out in red, and all circuit breakers are right above.
What you will quickly see is that you can move easily bow to stern working fish and ducking lines without banging into a tight space. Toe-kick and coaming pads run the entire length of the sidewalls for added comfort and safety. The bait station on this test boat was excellent. Lids are held open with magnetic catches. The tray in the sink pulls out for easy cleaning. There is fresh water and raw water washdown sprayer on top, and all kinds of tackle and knife storage. This is truly a professional bait station option. Wrapping up the stern, the gunwales have a total of five rod holders on each side. Tip out tackle boxes and a tip out bin are on each side making quick changes while trolling easier. You can opt for some benches on each side that fold up and can be stowed away for more room in the cockpit. Access panels get you quickly to the fuel/water separators and to shut-offs. The top of the stern walkthrough has a cutting board bolted in that is easy to replace when the time comes. Our test model had the optional swim platform and dive ladder.
The 330 TE measures 34’ (10.4 m) LOA with bow pulpit. She has a wide stance of 10’ 6” (3.2 m), and weighs about 11,500 lbs (5,216 kg) dry. The World Cat 330 TE is Yacht Certified, and can be equipped with up to twin 300-hp outboards. She has a fuel capacity of 300 gallons (1135.6L) in two 150 gallon (567.8L) tanks and carries 20 gallons (75.7L) of fresh water.
I was only able to test this model in the Intracoastal in Miami, Florida, but she proved her smooth ride in the rough conditions we encountered there, and handled better than most mono-hulled boats I have tested. The 330 TE was on plane in 3.4 seconds and up to 30 mph in 5.5 seconds. Best cruise speed with the twin Suzuki 300-hp outboards was at 2500 rpm and 15.5 mph, for a range of about 505 miles on a full tank of fuel. Pushing the throttles to the limit the 330 produced a top speed of 48.6mph at 6000 rpm.If you enjoy offshore fishing but are looking for a boat that is easy to manage, comfortable to ride and has room for three or four to fish without getting in the way of one another, the 330 TE deserves a closer look.
