All fuel consumption numbers are the total for all engines in the boat. Speeds are measured with Stalker ProSports radar gun or GPS. Fuel consumption (gallons per hour) measured with Floscan digital fuel-flow meter or by on-board factory-installed diagnostic instruments. Range is based on 90% of published fuel capacity. Sound levels determined using Radio Shack digital decibel meter on A scale. 68 dBA is the level of normal conversation. Time to plane is measured from start of acceleration to formation of rooster tail behind boat.

    Captain's Report

Top Performer with Loads of Seating and StorageBy Capt. Ron SvobodaPartnerships can be a wonderful thing—the relationship between Smoker Craft and Star Craft has resulted in the production of the Vectra 2282. Of the hundreds of boats I’ve tested, many of them ridiculously expensive, I found this affordable deck boat to be one of the most fun vessels I have ever been aboard. A great bottom design, matched with healthy sterndrive power from Volvo-Penta, gave me hours of enjoyment. Fortunately for me, I get to use the excuse that I’m “testing” the boat when I’m really just giggling like a kid and snapping tight radius turns and performing high-speed slalom maneuvers. I was amazed at how the boat tracks and can carve turns without prop wash or cavitation. Of course, the dual-prop drive helps, but the folks at Smoker Craft and Star Craft get the kudos. At the BowAfter my stint of self entertainment, I realized that there was more to the 2282 than just performance. This is a serious deck boat with wraparound seating up front and innovative multi-position seating in the cockpit. Both areas can use the removable snack table, plus cup holders and stereo speakers abound throughout the boat. Up front, the wide bow gives lots of elbow room and a filler cushion can be installed to make a jumbo sun lounge or play pen. There is also a swim platform up front, complete with a retractable beach ladder and freshwater shower. At the SternAt the opposite end is the same, but here you can opt for the jumbo swim platform that spans the whole stern of the boat. Snap-in carpet covers the platform and makes for a plush activity zone. Another cool feature on the Vectra is the multi function companion seating, which converts from a forward-facing seat to an aft-facing lounger or can be converted to a flat bench for bringing along more guests. That’s not all—hidden under the seating is a changing room that easily transforms to give you some privacy. Under the rest of the seats are storage compartments with plenty of room for everyone’s stuff. If a sporty family deck boat is on your ‘to do’ list, then the Vectra 2282 deserves a look. It comes with most of the features as standard equipment except for the power plant, which I recommend you don’t skimp on.
