All fuel consumption numbers are the total for all engines in the boat. Speeds are measured with Stalker ProSports radar gun or GPS. Fuel consumption (gallons per hour) measured with Floscan digital fuel-flow meter or by on-board factory-installed diagnostic instruments. Range is based on 90% of published fuel capacity. Sound levels determined using Radio Shack digital decibel meter on A scale. 68 dBA is the level of normal conversation. Time to plane is measured from start of acceleration to formation of rooster tail behind boat.

    Captain's Report

By Capt. Bob SmithTest CaptainTriton Boats came to the Miami Boat Show with its new 351CC offshore center console rigged for the rigors of blue water fish fighting with a limited lifetime warranty on the hull. Our test boat was equipped with three power-packed Honda 225-hp outboards strapped on the stern and was ready to rock.PerformanceThe 351CC is rated for up to 900-horsepower. With triple 225-hp Honda Four-Strokes, we found she cruised best at 3000 RPM for a speed of 25.2mph. At cruise, she produced a fuel burn of 16.2 gph and a range of 496 miles on a full tank of fuel. The Hondas topped out at 6000 RPM traveling 56.6 mph. At full tilt, she burned 62.4 gph and had a range of 290 miles on a full tank. Sound levels were typical of an outboard center console with an idle level of 67 dBa, cruise level of 79 dBa and wide-open-throttle level of 93 dBa. She had a hole shot performance time of 4.3 seconds on average and made it to 30 miles-per-hour in just 7.6 seconds. We tested the new 351CC on the Intracoastal Waterways of Miami, Florida with three people on board, 2/3 of a tank of fuel in one foot chop.ConstructionTriton prides itself on building some of the best fishing boats in the industry. Unibody construction, Zero Flex stringer systems, and one inch of polyurethane coating makes a hull that rides rock solid and strong enough for a limited lifetime warranty. Years of tournament fishing and listening to owner feedback has created a monster competitor in the 351CC. SpecsThe 351 measures in at 34’10” length overall and carries a beam width of 10 feet. She weighs in at 8,000 lbs. dry and has a transom deadrise of 24 degrees. Transom height is 25-30” and draft is a skinny 24 inches. She carries a maximum of 355 gallons of fuel and can carry up to 18 gallons of fresh water. Baitwell capacity is 50 gallons in the leaning post well and 31 gallons in the aft well. There is a 500 quart fish box up front and 220 quart fish box in the aft section.FeaturesUp front the 351 has an anchor locker and a fender locker. Three pop-up cleats are at the bow for the anchor and the bow lines in the slip. Bow lockers have removable rod racks and are insulated for fish boxes. The forward fish box is in the floor between these lockers with a locker just aft big enough for a five gallon bucket and more gear. An ice chest is forward of the helm station and under gunwale rod racks are in the center on both sides. Six more rods can be stored in racks aft of these at the stern on both sides. A hatch in the floor of the stern allows easy access to the mechanicals and bilge service items. In the center of the stern is another fish box/storage box, and to starboard is the stern baitwell with tuna tubes. At the ControlsThe helm station is an ergonomic high tech control station. A large vertical wall provides good room for flat panel electronics. Stainless steel cup holders and three 12 volt sockets are here for portable gear. Zero Effort controls can be added as an option, especially with triple outboards. The boat has multi-level footrests so everyone can relax on the leaning post seat underway. The batteries, battery switches and K-plane pumps are mounted high out of the bilge in the leaning post. On the back of the leaning post is the primary bait station with 50 gallon capacity and redundant 1,100 gph pump. The T-top kept everyone protected from the sun during our test run. There is a full walk-in head in the helm console with sink, rod holders and more storage for gear. If you are looking for a top-end offshore fishboat check out the Triton 351CC at your local dealer. Get your name in early because the line will be long for the test ride.
