All fuel consumption numbers are the total for all engines in the boat. Speeds are measured with Stalker ProSports radar gun or GPS. Fuel consumption (gallons per hour) measured with Floscan digital fuel-flow meter or by on-board factory-installed diagnostic instruments. Range is based on 90% of published fuel capacity. Sound levels determined using Radio Shack digital decibel meter on A scale. 68 dBA is the level of normal conversation. Time to plane is measured from start of acceleration to formation of rooster tail behind boat.

    Captain's Report

A Boat for Many OccasionsTested By Capt. Bob SmithI recently had a great time testing with the new Tahoe runabouts in Kimberling City, Mo., on Table Rock Lake. This is such a neat little town, one that offers relaxing surroundings and outstanding views of the mountains, and also excellent fishing. Even when the winds were pushing up lots of white caps on the lake, folks were still trying to bring in one more fish for dinner. The Tahoe Q4 SF is designed to let you ski, fish, cruise or just lounge around in the sun if that is what you want to do for your relaxing day on the water. You can set the bow area up for two people to set in lounger fashion with safety grab handles and cup holders for each. Under the seat is molded-in storage on both sides. Filler cushions extend the comfort for tanning time. Remove the filler cushions, insert a post and set up a casting chair for comfort while teasing the fish on the lake. A removable standard trolling motor is the first indication this is not an ordinary runabout when you first see her.LayoutThe walk-through windshield has a great point and receiver catch to hold it open. I can’t tell you how many straps I have seen that have been eaten up by the UV rays and simply let the windshield flop around. The companion pod has another fine feature, a glove box that’s really another cooler for a few cool beverages for you and your companion underway. The right side of this pod has the AM/FM CD player, a handy padded area for your glasses and small items and two cup holders. Both the cockpit seats swivel and adjust for personal comfort underway and to keep you in the loop when chatting at anchor with your friends on the stern. A huge in-floor storage area has a wide opening so that wide boards and skis can slide in effortlessly. Helm instruments are spread in an arc over the wheel for easy viewing and have white-faced dials with black numbers. Just ahead of the instrument pod and before the windshield is another neat dished area for the driver to store their glasses when not being used. To the right lower side of the dash is a plug for keeping the cell phone and other portable gear fully charged while you are out for the day.Back AftSeating in the stern features two plush seats on either side separated by a bench in the center. Under the bench is a carry-on cooler and room for storage. The stern area behind the seats has two distinct functions. With a snap-on cushion, she is a broad sun deck for soaking up the rays at anchor. Unsnap and stow the cushion and you reveal a nice casting deck in the rear. A pedestal casting chair can be placed here in the center. Over on the starboard side is an aerated livewell and on the port is a storage compartment. The lid lifts on two struts to give you good access to the power plant below. The wide swim platform is the star on this model. Two grab handles and a telescoping two-step boarding ladder make getting yourself back on board simple. This wide platform is certainly going to be the center of activity every time you stop and anchor.Trailer Features Every Q-series boat from Tahoe has its own custom-built trailer which is specially designed to accommodate the specific model. These trailers include carpeted bunks with extra padding, carpeted fender pads, chrome wheels, EZ Lube hubs, folding tongue jack, nylon winch strap, retractable safety cables and a handy swing-away trailer tongue.PerformanceWhen we tested and shot the video for the Q4 SF, we got her up on plane in just 4.9 seconds and up to 30 miles per hour in only 10.6 seconds. That’s not bad for a combination boat you can fish or ski from. We found her best cruise at 3500 rpms which is about 28.2 mph and she had a fuel burn rate of 5.1 gph at this speed. At cruise you can expect to run about 116 miles before looking for a fill up. Top end was achieved at 4900 rpms running 41.7 mph with a fuel burn of 10.3 gph. She was a fairly quiet runner with 83 dBa at the helm for cruise and 92 dBa at top end.If you have always wanted to have a fish boat and a ski boat but didn’t want the two payments, the Q4 is a great choice to look at that is just as comfortable running from fish hole to fish hole as she is pulling a skier up on top on the weekend.
