The Sea-Doo GTX Limited iS 260 is designed to provide the comfort riders expect from a high-end luxury watercraft with high-tech features such as a suspension system, activity-specific cruise control and an on-water braking system. The machine also comes standard with items such as integrated mooring lines, a dry storage bag and a full cover.
Comfort for a rider starts at the seat and Sea-Doo designed a plush seat that is ergonomically shaped and well-upholstered for maximum comfort. Notice how the seat narrows where the operator’s knees would be, creating a more comfortable, natural position. The integrated lumbar bolster is firm and designed to support the driver's back while providing a soft ride. The foot trays are carpeted with the Sea-Doo logo embossed. The seat is hinged at the front and raises on supports to provide easy access to the engine.
The Swim Platform.
Abaft the seat, the reboarding platform is carpeted and has storage plus access to the battery and fuses. Centered just above the deck is the tow point, and note the cupped indents to either side where the observer places his feet when facing aft. On the back edge are two hand grips to assist in re-boarding along with the fold down extended re-boarding step. One of the Speed Tie retractable docking lines is also mounted on the transom.
Turning our attention to the handlebars, the ergonomically shaped handgrips help position the rider with his/her hands in a more natural, tucked-in position. The handlebar also tilts in unison with the gauges with four adjustable steering angles and providing a clear line of sight to all gauge information. With a luxury machine, owners should expect features and the GTX Limited iS 260 has plenty. It comes with iControl, which is Sea-Doo’s term for the central brain that integrates and controls all systems. On the port handle grip are thumb controls for the Variable Trim System (VTS) that allows riders to adjust the attitude of the bow angle by changing the position of the jet pump nozzle. The lever forward of the grip is the Intelligent Brake & Reverse (iBR) system. When the rider squeezes the lever, the throttle is immediately overridden and an aluminum spoiler at the rear of the craft lowers into the flow of water to quickly slow the craft. Sea-Doo says the machine stops 100’ (30.5 m) shorter at 50 mph than competitive units.
On the starboard handle are the throttle trigger and the thumb controls for cruise control. The GTX Limited iS 260 has different operating modes in what Sea-Doo calls Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC). Touring mode provides a more linear power delivery optimal for cruising, while Sport mode increases the performance with quicker throttle response and stronger acceleration and ECO mode provides the best fuel economy. To accommodate a variety of rider abilities, the machine has the Sea-Doo Learning Key that can be programmed to limit engine output. The key also includes D.E.S.S. (digitally encoded security system) with radio frequency technology.
The GTX Limited iS 260’s instrument panel is best described as three large gauges. The port side gauge is the speedometer and the tachometer is to starboard while in the center is a digital multi-function displays that provides 33 different bits of information including fuel level, engine hours, a compass, clock, fuel consumption, time/distance to empty, altitude, water temperature, and a depth finder.
The “iS” stands for a feature called intelligent Suspension. This system allows the hull to move independently of the upper deck, implementing a shock absorber and rear swing arm to comprise the suspension to smooth out the ride for the driver. It is electronically controlled so it can be set manually or in automatic mode. Our tests have shown that this system works as advertised and provides 6” of travel.
The GTX Limited iS 260 has storage in the bow, in a glove box forward of the seat and in the aforementioned rear storage areas. Aft to port is a deep compartment and to starboard, there’s more space plus a dedicated spot for the fire extinguisher. The bow storage has a removable and watertight plastic tub. A removable dry bag that converts into a backpack comes standard as part of the Limited Package.
Power and Propulsion
We haven’t tested the GTX Limited iS 260 so we don’t have any performancenumbers. The GTX Limited iS 260 has a 1503 HO Rotax 4-TEC engine. This is a 1494 cc 4-stroke multiport injected engine with a supercharger that has an external intercooler and a closed loop cooling system. The jet pump has a stainless-steel impeller. The GTX Limited iS 260’s S3 hull is stepped to improve efficiency and overall performance. The hull is made using the closed mold process that provides the strength and durability needed for a high performance PWC, but with a lower weight.
The MSRP is $17,299.
