Captain's ReportAt the heart of the Speedster is a 240-hp M2 Jet Drive from Mercury Marine. It’s the largest single powerplant you can get in any jetboat. The EFI engine was developed specifically for Sea-Doo, along with a new pump and impeller. The Speedster has a deep-V hull that gives it great stability in rough water. There is a Hydro-Surge weed guard to prevent the water intake from clogging. The guard is spring-loaded and if it gets clogged, weeds will pass through and be shredded by the big 7 ¼” impeller. The Speedster also makes for a good tow, with its ski pylon and tow eye.We recorded a top speed of 50 mph in a choppy sea, but it can go even faster in flat water. At best cruise of 4500 rpm, fuel flow was just 11 gph for a cruising range of more than 100 miles on a single trip to the fuel dock. The Speedster’s styling and high end features is what we especially liked, and of course, driving her.
