Brief Summary

The new 320 LXF (for luxury fishboat) is not only an impressive fishing machine, she is intended to be a family day cruiser as well. Other than her lines and classy rounded stern quarters with tumble home, most noteworthy is the fact that she comes loaded with equipment that most builders make optional.

Scout Boats 320 LXF (2013-) Line Drawing

    Captain's Report

    Snapshot Review--

    Scout 320 LXF
Deck plan of the Scout 320 LXF. Note the extreme bow flare which is design to knock down waves and keep the boat dry.

Mission of the Scout 320 LXF

In a word, Scout's mission with this boat is simply to blow away the competition by building a boat easy on the eyes, but also one loaded with all the necessary equipment that an avid angle might want. Part II of the mission is to get the most important thing most anglers want -- the blessing of his other half. To that end and optional equipment list was design to strike a spouse's fancy.

    Scout 320 LXF
Options can make the 320 family-friendly and a good dayboat entertaining platform. Seen here are the optional grill, table, and forward-facing back rests which are electrically adjustable.
    Scout 320 LXF
Storage is abundant forward. We would put the fire extinguisher in the cabinet to starboard.
    Scout 320 LXF
The optional entertainment station to port.
    Scout 320 LXF
    The entertainment console to starboard.

    Distinguishing Features

    Standard Equipment.

Normally we list here the equipment that is exceptional as standard, but there are so many items (see below) that we have simply categorized all as a distinguishing feature. We haven't seen anything like it.

    Two Forward Entertainment Consoles.

This is one place where the family aspect of the boat comes into play. The port and starboard consoles in the bow are standard, but what goes in them is optional. Things such as a grill, refrigerator and ice maker can all be placed here.

    Head Compartment with Berth.

The standard head is electric. There is a sink, mirror, pressure water, and a berth. The berth cushion is optional.

    Scout 320 LXF
The cockpit of the Scout 320 LXF. Note the in-deck fish boxes port and starboard, fold-away transom seat and large hatch on the centerline that gives access to the "pump room" and additional storage.
    Scout 320 LXF
The fold-way transom seat. Note padded bolsters that go 360-degrees around the boat.
    Scout 320 LXF
The standard bait-prep console has Swiss Army knife-like utility for anglers.

    Standard Equipment (Partial List)

The items listed below are just the high points, equipment and hardware that is normally optional and some items that are rarely even offered by some builders. ●Deluxe leaning post with baitwell, tackle drawers, sink and rod holders●Powder-coated T-top hardtop with glass enclosure●Electric marine head with holding tank, electric pump-out and Y valve●Lewmar anchor windlass, anchor, chain and rode●Hide-away transom seat●10" bow and stern pull-up cleats●30 amp shore power with 50' of cord●50 Amp battery charger●Raw and freshwater washdown●Dual Airmar custom helm chairs●Lenco Autoglide trim system●260-degree padded bolsters●In console cabin rod racks for six

    Scout 320 LXF
There is plenty of real estate on the boat's console for nav screens. We'd place engine diagnostic screens between them on the centerline so they could be read from both standing and seated positions. The boat's 9'10" (2.99 m) beam permits this wide console.
    Scout 320 LXF
The T-top and windshields are standard equipment. Note that the aluminum supports for the T-top are integral to the design, maximizing visibility, and are powder-coated. The heavy-duty pantograph windshield wiper is optional.
    Scout 320 LXF
The standard fiberglass hardtop has room for optional equipment.
    Scout 320 LXF
The aft end of the hardtop houses speakers, lights and has a compartment for storing life vests.

    Fishing Features

In addition to the items already mentioned, other fishy items on the boat are--●Six flush-mounted rod holders●Four under-gunwale rod storage positions●Port and starboard in-deck fish boxes, 380 quarts●Starboard locker in console for gaffs and gear

    Scout 320 LXF
The 320 LXF has twin swim platforms with standard Flex-teak coverings. Note the cross-over bridge behind the transom.
    Scout 320 LXF
This rod rack area in the console can be converted into an optional berth.

    Family Features

In addition to the family features mentioned above--●Large dual swim platforms with cross-over "bridge"●Large Armstrong dive-swim ladder●Flex-teak covering for swim platforms●Fusion stereo with four 7" speakers●Optional fiberglass bow table and pedestal●Optional deluxe forward entertaining station with sink, cutting board, drawers, and electronic forward back rests●Optional inverter charging system and stainless grill●Optional 12V refrigerator●Optional console berth cushion (in lieu of rod rack system)

    Scout 320 LXF
Gaffs and other items fit neatly into a compartment on the side of the center console.

    Power Options

The Scout 320 LXF does not come with a standard engine package. The boat is rated to handle a maximum of 700 horsepower. Depending on the application and speeds desired we imagine that the boat will be powered by twin 200-hp to 350-hp engines, and most likely twin 250s or twin 300s. We have not tested the boat.

    Scout 320 LXF
This drawing shows the deep keel and extended bottom of the Scout 320 LXF. Colored hulls are optional and in our opinion worth the extra cost and maintenance.

    Observations

With a 23-degree deadrise at the transom and plenty of Carolina bow flare, the 320 LXF is obviously intended for serious offshore work. It seems to us as if Scout has surveyed its competition and incorporated as standard equipment nearly everything possible -- both in terms of design and equipment -- making this vessel a compelling option for consumers. The details and optional equipment that make this boat family-friendly clearly adds to the utility of the vessel. With the addition of a number of options the 320 LXF can be a capable dayboat entertaining platform as well as an offshore angling machine.
