All fuel consumption numbers are the total for all engines in the boat. Speeds are measured with Stalker ProSports radar gun or GPS. Fuel consumption (gallons per hour) measured with Floscan digital fuel-flow meter or by on-board factory-installed diagnostic instruments. Range is based on 90% of published fuel capacity. Sound levels determined using Radio Shack digital decibel meter on A scale. 68 dBA is the level of normal conversation. Time to plane is measured from start of acceleration to formation of rooster tail behind boat.

    Captain's Report

Tested by Capt. Bob SmithWhat can you do with your most popular bowrider model? Take it to the extreme, that’s what. I had the pleasure to test the Xtreme RX2 from Rinker up in Indiana at Lake Wawasee, just down the street from the plant recently. Bow Seating and FeaturesRinker took the Captiva 232 bowrider and jammed a ton of features into it, attached a pivoting wakeboard tower to her and came out with the big sister of the Xtreme series. Up front you have bench seating for at least three or four friends, or two can use the lounger backs and stretch out. If you want to lay out, add in the filler cushions that store in the helm pod and you have a great place to catch the rays. In the sides, you have netting to hold small items and under the hinged seats you have storage for larger items. Under the center bench is the anchor locker with rubber keepers for a Danforth style anchor. Helm StationThe tinted wrap-around windshield has a center walk-through without a lower door. The companion station pod has a door that leads you to a space that includes a rack for the snack table and a port-a-potty. In the top of the companion box is a covered storage area for day use. The bucket seats for the companion and the helm have flip up bolsters, slide adjustments and swivel adjustments so you can stay comfortable regardless of your position in the boat. The helm station has nice looking wood accents for the gauges, and a large blue Danforth compass rests on a ledge just behind the wheel. Standard instrumentation is complimented with a digital depth finder and the Perfect Pass system that makes wakeboarding much easier on the driver and the rider. This boat has two speakers in the tower and six in the hull. A Kenwood six CD changer and power amplifier insure the tunes will be heard loud and clear.Cockpit Layout Seating in the cockpit stern area is in an L shape with a cooler stored under the starboard side and open storage under the center seat. This also has a wet bar with a grab rail, single handle faucet, sink and deep trash bin. Three cup holders top the wet bar so the beverages stay in place while you prepare them for guests.Swim PlatformThe transom walk-through is on the port side on the RX2. This boat had the extended swim platform with a nested three-step stainless steel swim ladder. There is a transom mounted tow eye and my test boat also had a transom stereo remote controller so you don’t have to track water all the way to the stereo at the helm. The large stern pad is a spacious area for working on your tan and also serves as the engine hatch. TowerThe wakeboard tower is a monster tubular aluminum frame that has the anchor light, swivel tow point and has pivot points for easier towing without worrying about overhead clearance. Custom hull graphics are eye catching and the hull colors are offered in red or yellow.PerformanceMy test boat was equipped with a 300 horsepower MerCruiser Mag MPI with a Bravo III outdrive. For prop, the boat had a 26” High Five. She was quick out of the hole taking only 4.0 seconds to get on plane, and was up to thirty miles per hour in just 8.9 seconds. We found her best cruise speed at 3000 rpms moving along at 28.5 mph and burning 8.7 gallons per hour for a range of 222 miles. She reached an impressive 50 mph at top end burning 21.4 gallons per hour and giving us a range of 158 miles. The RX2 handled with ease cutting broad turns without losing much speed. She proved to be a nice dry ride with very little hull noise to compete with the sound system. The RX2 makes a great choice for those who want to have more creature comforts, more space and still have the power for a fun day of extreme watersports.

    Test Result Highlights

    • Top speed for the Rinker RX 2 (Not in Production) is 50.0 mph (80.5 kph), burning 21.4 gallons per hour (gph) or 81 liters per hour (lph).
