Brief Summary

Rinker’s new Captiva 246 CC combines a traditional cuddy with stylish lines. A standard Bimini top surrounds the main cockpit, and a carry-on cooler keeps beverages cool throughout the day. A sink with refreshment center is handy for washing off fruit or cleaning hands before a meal, and the custom hideaway trash container with Corian top keeps the boat clutter-free. A non-skid walkthrough provides access to the extended swim platform. Below, a modest cabin highlights a full berth with enough space for multiple children to nap or simply get out of the sun. Storage compartments and a portable head complement the cabin, making the Captiva 246 CC a candidate for possible occasional overnights for two.

    Captain's Report

Rinker’s Captiva 246 CC is pictured with the optional Versa Teak swim platform. Notice how the platform is integrated into the hull and extends past the transom.

The Rinker Captiva 246 CC is a sporty cuddy cabin designed for watersports, trailering and occasional overnights. Featuring a "cockpit-forward" design, she's well-equipped for a full day on the water. When it comes time for sleeping afloat the modest cabin has a full berth with storage beneath, as well as a portable head. Depending on the buyer’s mission, Rinker offers a lengthy list of amenities as well as two optional packages focused around watersports and entertainment. A list of power options ranging from a fuel-efficient MerCruiser 4.5 MPI Alpha (250-hp) to a muscular MerCruiser 8.2 MAG (380-hp) completes the Captiva 246 CC package, leaving room for customization according to the buyer’s intended use.

    Features Inspection

    Anchor Locker.

The Captiva 246 CC features a built-in self-draining anchor locker with cradle molded into the foredeck for easy access and stowage. Having a built-in anchor locker keeps the foredeck clean, and securely stores the anchor out of the way when not in use. We like how Rinker used non-skid throughout, especially on the bow, allowing for safer travel back and forth on the foredeck.

    Deck Hardware.

A custom stainless steel bow rail encompasses the foredeck and carries back to the windshield line. All hardware throughout the boat is stainless steel including dual pull up cleats at the bow and stern, compartment hinges, grab rails, cup holders and ski tow pylon. An optional scuff plate for the bow stem is available and recommended as it adds an element of protection, whether pulling up an anchor or driving onto a trailer.

    Navigation Lights.

Rinker uses low profile navigation lights directly forward of the anchor locker. These LED lights allow for extended usage time and water resistance as well as better long-range visibility.

The stainless steel low-profile bow rail maintains an element of safety while adding to the sportboat feel.

    First Impressions.

Stepping down through a tinted and curved safety glass windshield we’re welcomed with standard snap-in carpet, two swivel seats with standard bolsters and U-shaped seating aft. The seating configuration on the Captiva 246 CC features a wide walkthrough to the stern for easy boarding. An optional filler cushion is available and recommended, completing the U when the walkthrough is not in use. The cockpit is protected with a standard Bimini top, keeping riders out of the sun when desired. Optional two-tone upholstery adds style and comfort.

    Rinker Captiva 246 CC upholstery
Optional duo-tone upholstery adds an element of style. Stainless steel cup holders are within easy reach behind the seat back.
Rinker Captiva 246 CC bucket seats
Swivel bucket seats with standard bolsters are found on both sides of the Captiva 246 CC. Stainless steel grab rails are conveniently placed for all riders on board.
Rinker Captiva 246 CC duo toned
The duo-tone upholstery is an attractive option. Note the quality stitching, contrasting piping and the embroidered logo.

    Arch Support.

The optional arch support is an asset for those interested in watersports, and it's completely compatible with the standard Bimini top. An optional arch hinge allows folding the arch down, easing bridge passage and entering covered docks. The arch features a stainless steel eye for watersports and is offered in black or white finishes.

    Rinker Captiva 246 CC arch
The optional hinged arch support has a clearance of 5’4” (1.64 m) when folded down.

    Sink and Table.

Directly behind the captain’s chair, Rinker built in a functional refreshment station with a pressurized 10-gallon (38 L) water tank. The sink is useful for preparing food throughout the day as well as washing hands after a day in the salt water. A standard removable table mounts in the center of the U-shaped seating, allowing for easy access to communal refreshments. We like how Rinker designed the table with recesses for plates and cups, adding stability to food and drinks while underway.

Rinker Captiva 246 CC wet bar
The refreshment station has stainless steel cup holders within reach both for those seated and standing.
    Rinker Captiva 246 CC table
The pedestal table is removable when not in use. Note the recessed plate and cup holders, stabilizing food and drink while underway.

    Trash Container.

Behind the U-shaped seating on the starboard side is a built-in trash receptacle that folds away when not in use. Fitted with stainless steel hinges, a Corian top conveniently lifts up for easy disposal of garbage. This is a feature that keeps the cockpit clean. When cleaning up, simply replace the trash bag and the cockpit is ready for the next adventure.

    Rinker Captiva 246 CC cover
The Corian cover on the trash receptacle is within easy reach of guests, yet not at all obtrusive.

    Carry-on Cooler.

One of our favorite features on the Captiva 246 CC is the cooler design. Everyone on the water wants cold beverages, and in this case Rinker delivers with a carry-on cooler that stores beneath the U-shaped seating. The clever design feature is in the access of the cooler. Rather than asking guests to stand up in order to access beverages, Rinker provides an opening in the upholstery that allows reaching down directly into the cooler with minimal effort. The upholstered square easily removes, the cooler door slides open, and difficult access to drinks becomes a thing of the past.

    Rinker Captiva 246 CC square
Notice the small square in the left corner of the picture. This lifts to allow access to the cooler below. The walkthrough leads to the swim platform aft. An optional filler cushion mounts here to complete the U-shaped seating.

The Rinker Captiva 246 CC comes standard with a Sony BTMEXM70BT head unit featuring a CD player, dual USB ports, Bluetooth and a removable faceplate. Additional options include:

    • Sirius satellite radio
    • Speakers: Co-axial with stainless steel covers
    • Upgrade speakers to Sony brand
    • Stereo remote: Transom
    • Stereo upgrade package with subwoofer and Amp – Sony or Polk Speakers with Kicker Amp
Rinker Captiva 246 CC sound system
A removable sound system faceplate adds extra security when the boat isn’t occupied.

Sitting at the helm we find an angled footrest, tilt steering, and a swivel bucket seat with bolster all adding to the ergonomics. A standard Richie compass is mounted in direct sightlines of the helmsman, along with contrasting Faria beveled gauges. Backlit, labeled rocker switches with breakers surround the wheel and are attached to a main circuit breaker, eliminating the need for replacement fuses. A depth gauge is also included on the Captiva 246 CC and optional trim tabs with LED indicators are available. The throttle control is mounted against the side bulwark within easy reach of the helmsman.

    Rinker Captiva 246 CC helm
The helm features Faria gauges and rocker-type switches with breakers adjacent. The center-mounted Richie compass is standard.

    First Impressions.

A locking dual-hinged door system allows continuous ventilation throughout the cabin without interfering with the cockpit space. Stepping down we find dual port lights and hatch, providing natural light and air flow. Brazil wood on both sides of the bulwark carries forward and adds an accent to an otherwise simple space. The V-berth allows for occasional overnights aboard, and storage beneath the removable cushions adds functionality to the space. A hideaway portable toilet is discretely mounted to starboard, keeping a clear path for entering and exiting the cabin.

    Rinker Captiva 246 CC
Notice the Corian counter mounted forward. This is useful for placing a cell phone before settling in for the night.
Rinker Captiva 246 CC filler cushion
When the filler cushion is in place a comfortable berth is formed. The space is designed to sleep two adults.

    Reclining Sun Pad.

A spacious sun pad located behind the U-shaped seating is large enough for several people. The adjustable sun pad folds upward, creating bench seating facing aft for times at anchor.

Rinker Captiva 246 CC stainless steel
Stainless steel hardware and polymer seat frames are used throughout the Captiva 246 CC.

    Engine Compartment.

A hinged engine compartment hatch lifts up with gas assist struts. LED lighting is standard here. There's room on either side of the engine block for easy maintenance and access to key components.

    Rinker Captiva 246 CC engine
Notice the adjustable LED light that extends down from the hatch. We also like the gelcoat surrounding the engine compartment for easier cleanup.

The walkthrough from the swim platform to the cockpit is finished in non-skid, with Versa-Teak as a handsome option.

Rinker Captiva 246 CC walk through
Notice how the walkthrough is spacious enough for one to comfortably pass through without having to side step or twist to the side.

    Transom Shower.

The 10-gallon (38 L) freshwater transom shower located on the starboard side allows guests to rinse off before re-entering the cockpit. This is a nice feature for those who plan on swimming and then spending the night aboard or traveling to a dock-and-dine for dinner.

    Rinker Captiva 246 CC
The transom shower hose extends for easy use and retracts into the hull for easy storage.

    Storage Aft.

Rinker added a storage compartment right off the swim platform that's handy for housing watersports gear such as skis, lines, tubes, or even scuba equipment. For those less interested in watersports it would be a good place for storing emergency gear and fenders.

    Rinker Captiva 246 CC transom
A transom mounted stainless steel eye is located directly behind the storage compartment hatch. Also notice the gas assist strut, allowing for easy removal of gear.

    Swim Platform.

The swim platform finished in non-skid or optional Versa-Teak extends past the transom and clears the sterndrive. On the starboard side, a telescoping ladder with wide treads folds into the platform and disappears, creating a flush surface that won't stub bare toes. On the port side, a self-draining compartment is handy for icing and accessing beverages from the water without having to climb into the boat and through the cockpit. An optional transom stereo remote for the Sony head unit also allows guests to adjust music without leaving the water.

    Rinker Captiva 246 CC
Notice how both hatches fold flush creating a flat platform for guests to step or sit on. Also note the lift up cleats on either side.
