Captain's Report
Big Attitude Rules on the WaterBy Capt. Ron SvobodaCockpit Features Some other items that the two models share in common is the spacious 8 foot 6 inch beam and 24 foot, 7 inch length that makes for ultra comfy times on the water. The cockpit’s seating runs all the way down the port side, across the back, then all the way down the starboard side and ends at the pilot seat. The seating space is phenomenal with room for up to 16 people. A small removable snack table can be inserted near the aft seats for lunch or sunset cocktails. Just aft of the helm seat is a self draining cooler that also illuminated for when the sun goes down. Both port and starboard sides of the boat have ingeniously designed coaming panels that are flush with the seat backs and house 10 drinkholders, grab handles and stereo speakers. Of course each seat conceals generous storage space under each of the cushions, while at the back, a stereo remote allows total control of your tunes. The TowerAbove the cockpit is an aluminum piece of art that Malibu calls a wakeboard tower. This giant, cast aluminum structure is unlike anything else on the scene and can be painted and equipped with all sorts of different speaker and board rack options. When it’s time to store the boat or tow to the next location, the tower neatly folds in behind the wraparound windshield by simply pulling two pins. The entire unit is counter balanced, making it possible for only one person to actuate and lower the tower.Just below the tower is the helm and driver’s seat that’s focused on comfort and cutting-edge marine technology. It all starts with the pilot’s ultra supportive bucket seat that includes a thick bolster pad and swivel/forward adjustment operation. The seat can also be equipped with heat for those chilly morning ski runs, something we found to be very handy. Precision Pro Speed ControlThe boat’s understated dash panel displays analog gauges driven by digital inputs from the all-electronic engine controls. Centered in the billet aluminum dash panel is Malibu’s Precision Pro Speed Control that comes as standard equipment on both the models. The Wakesetter gets the added benefit of the Ballast Monitoring System, this gives digital control over filling and dumping water ballast so each boarder can custom tailor the wake size to their liking. Directly across from the helm is the observer’s seat which is wide enough for two. The seatback cushion reveals a storage compartment that provides access to the boat’s two batteries and the stereo system’s amps and head unit. All the way forward in the cockpit is a fully padded bow seating and lounge area created for maximum comfort. Recessed nooks house stereo speakers and four stainless steel cup holders. Removing all the cushions exposes generous, carpet lined storage and a centerline forward ballast tank.If you are a dedicated water baby with a large entourage or just looking for a fine, family sport platform, and don’t mind shelling out 75 grand for something totally unique on the playground then see the 247 LSV first hand, you won’t be disappointed.Test Result Highlights
