|Fish Hawk Fish Hawk|
There are a lot of choices in the 23-foot center console category of boats but there is one that has more standard features and more forethought in its design and layout than the rest. That boat is the new 230 CC Fish Hawk from Bombardier. This boat is designed specifically for the family that likes to fish on Saturday and go for a pleasant cruise on Sunday.
The Fish Hawk 230 CC hull features an 18-degree deadrise and foam filled interior giving it a solid and stable ride. The boat is also very dry due in part to the design of the hull that utilizes reverse chines to redirect the spray back into the water.
The engine is mounted on a Stainless Marine painted stainless steel bracket and there’s a dive platform and boarding ladder to port. The transom contains a large fishbox and a bait prep station. There’s also flip down jump seats and access to the bilge through a waterproof hatch. There’s flush mounted rod holders in the non-skidded gunnels and there’s also rod storage racks beneath and are found on both sides of the cockpit. The livewell is neatly hidden in the swiveling helm chair base, a great use of otherwise wasted space.
The helm is well designed with gauges and instruments being easily visible and the steering wheel and throttle within easy reach. There’s even a recessed footrest for comfort. The dual pedestal helm chairs are comfortable as well although a leaning posts option with rocket launchers would also be a welcome choice. Inside the console there’s a head and additional storage space.
The interior is nicely finished and has more room than most of the competitors’ consoles. The option of a T-Top is a good choice providing protection from the sun, a place for additional electronics or storage with the inclusion of an electronics box, allows lighting for both night fishing and docking. The high gunnels and bow rail promote safety for junior boaters or land lubbers and there’s a cooler under the front jump seat for beverages and snacks.
The front casting deck doubles as a sun pad and there’s ample storage beneath the gull wing hatches. At the bow there’s and anchor locker for your anchor line and the molded bow pulpit with anchor roller make dropping the hook a breeze.
With a 8’9” beam, overall length of 23’11” and a dry weight of 3,759 pounds, the 230 CC is a solid vessel that handles rough water with safety and comfort in mind.
Out on our test track we ran the 230 CC to a top speed of 46.9mph at 5400 rpm with the Evinrude RAM 200. The best cruise speed was determined to be 31.8 mph at 4000 rpm burning only 10.4 gallons per hour and generating a range of 299 miles. The 230 CC was quick to plane too in only 4.8 seconds.
Overall, the 230 CC is a very well designed boat that has good finish qualities, well thought out storage and fishability, and is also a very comfortable boat for the family to spend quality time together out on the water.
