Captain's ReportStyle, Good Looks, and All-Around Value By Capt. Robert Smith Luxury and spacious design are obvious on the Intrigue with room for overnight, long weekends, or just a short evening cruise.Forward Layout and Features Starting at the bow, the Intrigue offers a custom forged highly polished Doral anchor with chain, roller and windlass. Pressure water is up front to rinse the anchor and the locker is self bailing. The bow area has heavy-duty surrounding bow rails with a lighting system built in. To enjoy more sun, you can opt for a forward bow lounging pad with integrated head rest. The fully framed windshield has a center walkthrough for easy access forward, or you can gain access forward via a 7-inch wide walkway. The radar arch is either a fixed or optional motorized arch, which is handy in low overhead areas. The motorized arch has a safety key on the port side and a switch on the starboard side to prevent accidental operation by the little ones or adults for that matter. The bimini stretches both forward and aft, and will provide much needed comfort in the harsh sun or protection from brief squalls in the humid summer weather.Functional Cockpit with Entertaining RoomStepping down into the cockpit, a luscious lounger with very comfortable cushions awaits your navigator or first mate. An acrylic chart holder is in the top of the dash for your navigator to keep watch over the course. Acrylic matching drink holders are mounted in the top of the ledge surrounding the lounger to keep you beverages handy. A refreshment center with bar is just aft this port side lounger with a sink and pressure water where you design for favorite beverage to enjoy underway.Crossing over to the helm, the seating is a wide bench seat with flip-up bolster to make more room for the driver when standing and driving. The mahogany steering wheel and Teleflex Extreme Control cabling make handling a dream. Doral has allowed plenty of room here to outfit your dash with whatever equipment you want. Our test boat had a Raymarine VHF radio and Raymarine C120 chartplotter. Analog gauges were arranged around the panel and under an eyebrow for easy view, even in the hot sun of South Florida. Our test model also had a Clarion remote control on the right for the driver to control the tunes underway, along with the bow plane controls and remote spotlight joystick. The aft cockpit seating is a huge U-shape lounge with removable unique cushion, to step up onto the 7-inch wide walkways going forward. Another neat feature I have enjoyed on Doral models is the sliding aft bench seat, which actually expands the floor space by moving the aft bench out over the swim platform. Finished storage compartments under the bench seats make great storage, and are also very easy to keep clean. The aft deck pops up on twin rams to reveal lots of room for standard pre-launch checks and routing maintenance. The table top has a dedicated storage spot on the bottom of the hatch, just above the engine. The swim platform offers a wonderful place to hang out with your feet in the water, or flip out the telescoping swim ladder and jump in for a cool relaxing dip. Our model had the optional teak inlay on the swim platform which really spices up the look. Dock connections are lead into the center stern trunk to keep everything neat, and two stainless steel fender slots will keep your fenders stored where they should be. Spacious Cabin with RefinementsHeading below, you step through a green acrylic cabin entry door that locks open. The mid-cabin has a storage cabinet, portal for natural light, reading lights for night time reading, and a large double berth. An accordion doorway provides privacy to the occupants at night and the cabin even has a comfortable reading seat that is also a great place to get ready in the morning.Moving forward to the galley, the Intrigue has beautiful wood cabinetry with granite aspect countertops, stainless steel sink, stainless microwave oven and built-in refrigerator. I really liked the stainless steel protective cover on the bottom of the Corian burner cover.Across from the galley is the head. The head has a full fiberglass liner, shower with curtain, medicine cabinet above the vanity and toilet. Continuing forward is the main V-berth. Our cabin has the Entertainment Package which includes the 15” LCD/TV and DVD player to enjoy from the lounger or V-berth. Reading lights are at the head of the berth for night-time reading enjoyment. For privacy at night, a curtain can be pulled across the end of the bed.The L-shaped lounge offers a great place to relax in the day, enjoy an intimate chat with friends or to relax and enjoy a movie on the optional entertainment system. The CD changer, stereo head and optional DVD player are within easy reach above the lounger and the main power panel is mounted in the wall just inside the cabin.Specifications and RideThe Intrigue measures 30’6” length overall, and has a beam of 11’2”. She weighs about 12,500 pounds dry, and carries 166 gallons of fuel and 40 gallons of fresh water. Her hot water capacity is 6 gallons and she has 6’3” of cabin headroom. The Intrigue handled very well in tight quarters and in a narrow Intracoastal waterway in South Florida. She was easy to manage and smooth through the chop of passing boats and crossing her own wakes. The Intrigue was on plane in 12.9 seconds, a little slow for me, and up to 30mph in 21.2 seconds. Her cruise best speed is about 26.9mph turning 4000rpm, and top speed proved to be 38.2mph at 4700 rpm.
