    All fuel consumption numbers are the total for all engines in the boat. Speeds are measured with Stalker ProSports radar gun or GPS. Fuel consumption (gallons per hour) measured with Floscan digital fuel-flow meter or by on-board factory-installed diagnostic instruments. Range is based on 90% of published fuel capacity. Sound levels determined using Radio Shack digital decibel meter on A scale. 68 dBA is the level of normal conversation. Time to plane is measured from start of acceleration to formation of rooster tail behind boat.

    Captain's Report

    Tested by Capt. Bob SmithBoatTEST.com has tested Cruisers Yachts for a few years now, but this was my first chance to test them. The company seems to have a good handle on what their marketplace is looking for and continues to improve construction while working towards reducing cost. I enjoyed talking with all the crew from Cruisers and the crew from Galati Yacht Sales. Starting aft is a spacious swim platform with telescoping swim ladder for easy boarding from the water. Just before the starboard side walkthrough is a transom shower to freshen yourself up after a dip. Engine AccessTo access the engines just lift up the hatch that’s under the standard cockpit carpeting. One thing that jumps out at you on all Cruisers Yachts’ boats is the wiring. Each one is labeled so that you can tell what it goes to from anywhere along the way. Components like the raw water strainers are all labeled with heavy-duty plastic tags, once again removing any doubt as to what you are looking at down below. Cockpit FeaturesBack topside, you have a wet bar on the starboard side just behind the helm seat. The standard set up includes a sink and a carry on cooler. You can opt for a refrigerator or ice maker here instead. Bench seating across the back keeps the friends and family comfortable topside while an adjustable helm with bolster keeps you comfortable and high up where you can see well underway. Behind the WheelThe helm is stylish and reminded me more of an airplane pod ready for take off. The color of the dash was black, but it was textured so there was little reflection on the underside of the windshield. There are two molded-in steps which take you up the dash and forward to the ground tackle that is kept below a bow hatch. Come back through into the cockpit, you have a fold-over table for easier access the cabin. I personally would not use this table here as it is not the easiest to install, and it still impedes a bit on entry below. . The CabinThe main cabin space is large for a boat this size, and the wood cabinetry gave the space a cozy look and feel. Forward is a double berth stateroom and aft is a fixed berth stateroom behind the open stairway. The galley had a cultured top with microwave, one-burner cooktop and refrigerator/freezer. The dinette faces the galley with a table and two benches that can convert to another sleeping area when needed. Air conditioning is standard on this model.SpecsThe 310 Express is 31 feet long and 10 feet six inches in the beam. Our model was outfitted with twin gas Volvo 5.7 GXi engines for a weight of approximately 10,600 pounds. She carries 150 gallons of fuel and can carry up to 30 gallons of freshwater. Cruisers Yachts offers several power plant options on this model from Volvo and MerCruiser in both gas and diesel.PerformanceI tested the 310 Express in 92 degree heat and unusually dry weather for Florida in Tampa Bay. With three people on board and one half tank of gas and water, we set out to see what hull number one of the new 310 Express line could do. We found she cruised best and most economically at 3000 rpms running about 22 miles per hour. At this speed she burns about 9 gallons of fuel per hour. When we pushed the throttles full forward, we found she topped out at 5000 rpms and was turning between 47 and almost 50 miles per hour burning 24.5 gallons per hour. It took her just over five seconds to get up on plane and she was cruising along at 30 miles per hour in under 9 seconds. I found the 310 handled pretty well throughout our testing. Some adjustments to throttles and plane needed to be done, and we encountered some issues with the instrumentation, but this is hull number one and it was splashed for the first time, so you would expect some findings along with the way. She was smooth after getting on plane and turned nice wide turns with little slip or skip. Handling at the dock was good, except for the starboard throttle needing position adjustments.If you’re searching for style, performance and list of standard amenities that Cruisers Yachts puts in their finest boats, in a smaller, more manageable package that is comfortable in fresh and salt water, the all-new Cruiser 310 Express is a great choice.
