At 17 feet long, it’s an easy fit in any garage, or put a good canvas on it and leave it outside. How can the neighbors complain about a brand new boat? If you are trading down it is good to know that boats don’t get much lighter than this one, so you could have big savings on your tow vehicle and its fuel bill.
Crestliner has been building 17-footers for longer than we can remember, so they have it down pretty well. But one thing they have recently changed is moving the console forward to give the anglers behind more room. And that is where you are likely to have two anglers.
The builder has installed about all of the seating tricks in this boat that it has on her bigger sisters. By placing sockets for the seat pedestal all over the deck the anglers have some choice as to how they use the boat. One of the things we like is that the optional transom bench seat (think of all of the larger boats that don’t even have this as an option!) which folds down and makes into a casting platform. Want to sit? Just plug in your seat pedestal. Crestliner is proud of the fact that all of the pedestal seats can be swiveled 360-degrees.
There are large storage lockers under the deck so you can store all of your gear and there is no excuse for having a deck that is so cluttered it looks like Sanford & Son’s junk yard. There is a center rod storage compartment with dedicated tubes, something that Crestliner has been doing for a long time. There is also rod storage in the gunwales, port and starboard. If it ain’t broke…
Another thing that we like is the fact that this 17-footer has two aerated live wells, one in the bow and another in the stern. So there will be no need for anglers fighting over the bait. The 1750 Raptor TE has a 17-degree deadrise in the bottom and is made of four pieces of metal all welded together. You can have a single console or twins. The single allows more room for big men to move fore and aft, so we reckon that is what most fishing lodges will buy, but if you are going to take Mom out on a chilly morning, she will probably like the dual console version with walk-thru design.

The freshwater fishing season begins sooner than you think, so it might not be too soon to start checking out your next fishboat. Plus, we're sure that you will want to be putting some options on the boat, so planning ahead will make sure you don’t get what you don’t really need. Not surprisingly, many dealers have Winter Specials going right now to generate a little foot traffic, so you’ll be most welcome.
