Brief Summary

Azimut is the leader of style in the production motoryacht world and builders around the globe work hard to keep up. But somehow Azimut always seems to be a jump ahead. . With a comfortable mixture of clean lines and ample windows (that are mirror tinted for privacy by the way) that blend in to the symmetry, the Azimut 53 is an attractive cruiser with room for 6 plus crew. Somehow Azimut’s designers – who we think are the most Romantic and creative on the planet – have managed to shoe horn virtually everything a 65 motoryacht has into 53’. Join us as we take a look at the new Azimut 53 to see exactly how the builder did it.

Captain's Report

Azimut 53
The new Azimut 53 is stylish and has sizzle in every sense of the word. She is sure to turn heads at the dock as well as underway both in the Med and all around the world. All of this and 3 staterooms, too!

The Pros...

Azimut 53
This is one of the most clever designs that we have ever seen in a 50-something motoryacht. The back of the helm seat flips forward so that six can squeeze into the settee. The galley is to port, leaving room below for three cabins.

We like the Azimut 53’s boarding passerelle off to the side instead of on the centerline. This leaves the cockpit settee and dinette area untouched and fully functional. The swim platform is more than ample for a tender or PWC. The main saloon has lots of natural light from the large windows on all sides. The dining area is large enough for the six guests to eat, rather than the usual curved seat with a small table. The lower helm seat is reversible, so it does double duty as a dining seat, and flips back for helm seating.

Azimut 53
The helm in the saloon is to starboard, is large and functional with good visibility for this style of boat.
Azimut 53
The new Azimut 53 scores 10.0 for Romance on our Richter Scale for heart-throbbing design.
Azimut 53
Yes, this is in the master stateroom. A cozy nook for cocktails by candle light in the evening or espresso and fresh croissant in the morning.

Three Staterooms...

Below decks, two staterooms have queen berths, and a third one has two singles. This is great for accommodating a diverse combination of guests. The master is midships and full beam.

Azimut 53
Who said you can’t have large portlights in the forward cabin? New technology permits large ports without the worry of leaks.

Up above it all, the flying bridge is roomy and very sunny, with a rigid steel overhead encompassing a sliding fabric opening in the center to allow sunlight in, or when closed off, provide shade as desired. Open air cooking and dining areas are comfortable and inviting. Full walk-around side decks allow for easy access to all parts of the Azimut 53 exterior.

Azimut 53
The main saloon lets in lots of natural light through her mirror tinted windows. Furniture is pickled oak with lacquered cognac inserts and dark leather tops. Seating is covered with a two-toned velvet and silk fabric. Note the two steps up to the raised galley/dining/lower helm areas.

The Cons...

We’d like to see the flybridge console center mounted. Now it’s off to one side… the port side, owing to the Azimut 53’s European heritage. Some American users will be a bit out of place by both this and the engine controls on the port side as well, but left-handed boaters will love it. The console accommodates only a single nav display, where the lower helm allows for two. Split screen software can solve this problem, if it is one for an owner.

Azimut 53
Keep in mid that this motoryacht is only a 53’ boat with a 16’4” beam and given that, plus the fact that there are crew quarters abaft the engine room, Azimut has pulled off the near-impossible buy shoe-horning in three staterooms. Obviously the 3rd cabin is tight, but it is fine for kids, nannies, or skinny friends.

There aren’t too many boats in this size range to compare to, but for what is available, the Azimut is approximately 10,000 lbs heavier (which may translate into more stability), and has larger engines, but carries nearly 200 gallons less in fuel (618 gallons/2,340 L) and 50 gallons less in water (156 gallons/590 L).

Azimut 53
The flybridge helm is off to the port side and the engine controls favor the left-handed pilot.

The specifications...

The Azimut 53 has a LOA of 54.8’/16.7 m, a beam of 15.5’/4.74 m, and a draft of 4.4’/1.35 m. Her fuel capacity is 618 gallons/2,340 L, and she carries 156 gallons/590 L of water. Azimut reports that the 53’s twin 715-hp CAT C12 ACERT engines give a top speed of 31kts, and a best cruise of 28kts. All in all, with striking good looks and functional interior, the Azimut 53 makes an aggressive pitch for topping your short list of yachts. And while this boat looks very expensive, Azimut is known for coming in with prices that are surprisingly competitive.Have an Azimut sales rep contact you for more information.
