Jeanneau Leader 40:
A Family-Friendly Cruiser

Jeanneau Leader 40
With plenty of eye appeal and smart interior use of space, the Jeanneau Leader 40 is both practical and stylish -- plus she's a capable family cruiser.

Everything that needs a place has a dedicated space in the Jeanneau Leader 40. A filler cushion for the twin berth to make one, large bed? It's actually the seat back cushion that one of the berths utilizes when sitting. The boards to support the cushion? They slide out from under the berth. Cutting surfaces on the galley counter? They slide into position from under the counter. By day, the foot of the forward cabin berth can be folded down to create more sitting room. All of this is built into a capable offshore cruiser with a Michael Peters-designed hull that's at home in virtually any sea conditions the recreational boater might want to tackle. More...

Sailfish 275DC:
Stylish, Multi-Tasking Dual Console

Sailfish 275 DC
The Sailfish 275DC is designed from the keel up as a multi-tasking boat with full-fledged features that allow it to compete both as a hard-core fishing boat and as a watersports platform.

The Sailfish 275DC brings with her plenty of family-friendly features as well as the ability to fish hard offshore. Dual consoles give the boat a runabout look as well as a more comfortable seating layout than the usual center console setup. The galley area has Corian counter tops, sink with faucet and built-in cooler. Thanks to her variable deadrise stepped (VDS) hull, she delivered a smooth, dry ride in our test conditions. More...

Nordic Tugs 49:
A Long-Range Cruiser

Nordic Tugs 49
Whether the crew prefers long offshore cruises, weekends anchored in shallow bays or quick trips to the islands, the Nordic Tugs 49 has the versatility required.

The Nordic Tug 49 we tested had an expansive gourmet galley, teak and holly decks, a full-beam master stateroom and an impressive pilothouse that even the most experienced captains will envy, all in a tough, sea-going package that's ready to take cruising families anywhere. And we mean anywhere: range is a stunning 1,645 NM at 8 knots! More...

Ranger 621VS:
Versatility Defined

Ranger 621VS
The Ranger 621VS is a large multi-species boat, and her Rite-Track keel, broad beam, bottom shape and weight all go to make the ride comfortable, dry and safe.

We have long recognized Ranger for the quality of its construction and the 621VS' hull is a case in point with a "pultruded" composite transom that's totally impervious to water intrusion and far tougher than conventional layup. The deep forefoot provides a wave-cutting ride and improved tracking, and the broad 99.5'' (2.53 m) beam delivers stability at trolling speeds. Although this boat is no longer in production, we had the opportunity to test the Ranger 621VS powered by the new Evinrude E-TEC G2 300 RAVE -- so we jumped on it. We think build quality and styling of the boat and that of the engine make a happy marriage. More...

Monte Carlo MC4:
Yesterday, Today -- and Tomorrow

Monte Carlo MC4
The layout of the Monte Carlo MC4 is open, lets in plenty of light, and emphasizes open space. Inside and out her styling is contemporary, fresh, and reflects her French-Italian origin.

With postmodern blend of contemporary and retro influences, the Monte Carlo MC4 will be right at home alongside the latest, modern megayachts. Her relatively light displacement makes her easy to push and therefore more economical to operate than many other boats in class. She can be a competent family cruiser, or a comfortable boat for two couples cruising together. More...

Mercury Verado 200-hp:
Supercharged Torque

Mercury Verado 200-hp
The Mercury Verado 200 delivers a powerful torque curve throughout the rpm range and has easy-shifting digital controls.

The 200-hp Mercury Verado, at the top of the four-cylinder Mercury lineup, is a fuel-injected engine that is supercharged. It has a strong torque curve for better hole-shots and mid-range acceleration. Supercharged engines also perform better in hot weather and at high altitude. And, it’s built with a multi-part corrosion protection system for longer life. Mercury’s Digital Throttle/Shift system delivers fly-by-wire control. More...

Tracker Pro Team 175 TF:
The Devil is in the Fishy Details

Tracker Pro Team 175 TF
The Tracker Pro Team 175 TF is fully equipped and ready for tournament fishing without having to dip into an options list.

Tracker's "Diamond Coat" finish--a baked-on powder coat with clear coat finish -- delivers an automotive-like depth, luster and durability to the paint on the Tracker Pro Team 175 TF. Standard fishing amenities include the usual stuff: a Minn Kota Edge electric troller, a Lowrance X-4 Pro fishfinder with a surface-tempurature feature and aerated, recirculating livewells bow and stern, plus 7-foot locking rod boxes to keep gear secure. But the real story is the boat's high quality construction. Don't let the price mislead you. More...

Operations Review

MJM 36z:
Downeast Done Right

MJM 36z
The MJM 36z is a Downeast cruiser that has a layout that makes it easy for one person to operate her in most situations.

Side-opening access doors are a unique--and very useful -- feature of the MJM 36z, a Downeast style cruiser that's captain-friendly throughout. Lots of grab handles around the helm show an understanding of the captain's role when dealing with lumpy seas, and a fold-out chart table keeps those classic paper charts accessible as a backup to the GPS electric charts. A power hatch and broad engine access makes daily routine maintenance convenient. More...

Yamaha SVHO:
Supercharged Performance

Yamaha SVHO
Yamaha's SVHO power system features the largest displacement engine in the PWC industry, and the addition of a supercharger gives it more bang per cubic inch.

Yamaha's PWC racing program is the anvil upon which new improvements are pounded out for the general consumer. The builder tells us that its new SVHO power system, available in three of their performance PWCs, features a new supercharger with air intake volume up 20 percent from former models, an intercooler with a 25 percent increase in efficiency, a fuel system modified to increase flow to the larger injectors, an oil cooler with a 110 percent jump in efficiency, and forged pistons that are 30 percent stronger than previous models. Robalo 206 Cayman:
Shallow Water Fishing Machine

Robalo 206 Cayman
The Robalo 206 Cayman is clearly a bay boat, with a draft of just 10'' (0.25 m), but our tests proved her capabilities in bumpy seas as well.

Despite her modest 15 degree deadrise, the Robalo 206 Cayman delivers a surprisingly smooth ride both running up-sea and down, with no excessive hammering evident during our test runs. The boat's hull actually extends beyond the transom, creating added buoyancy. And with a draft of just 10'' (0.25 m), she's ideal for poking into those fishy backcountry spots where shallow-water gamefish prowl. More...

Boston Whaler 270 Vantage:
A Versatile Dual Console

Boston Whaler 270 Vantage
Whether the mission is fishing, entertaining, day boating, sunning, or watersports, the Boston Whaler 270 Vantage delivers.

The Boston Whaler 270 Vantage is designed from the keel-up to be a multi-purpose boat that can tackle almost any mission with family or fishing buddies. The fender holder below the helm console is just one example of clever use of storage space, and the broad bow doubles as either a casting platform or a sunning area, once the cushions are in place. The walkthrough windshield provides wind and spray protection, and a full set of cushions for the bow make this a comfortable spot to catch some rays -- or remove them to catch some fish. More...

Regal 32 Express:
A Roomy Express Package

Regal 32 Express
The Regal 32 Express provides lots of entertaining and living space in a 32-footer.

The Regal 32 Express makes good use of available space: the wet bar is mounted at an angle to provide more working room without infringing on the cockpit, for example, and the rear bench seat slides aft 12'' at the touch of a button, opening more usable deck space -- a good way to create more room without having to add a very costly foot to the boat's overall dimensions. Tahoe 215 Xi:
A Crossover Family Sportboat

Tahoe 215 Xi
The Tahoe 215 Xi is an "all-purpose" sportboat for entertaining, a fishing boat with standard items such as a livewell and pedestal seats, but it she also a functional runabout for towing sports.

With a capacity of up to 12, the Tahoe 215 Xi can handle extended families with ease, and while her primary mission is as a watersports platform for swimming and towing, she can also function as a runabout or fish-boat on protected waters. There's plenty of storage, including in-floor ski/wakeboard/trolling motor compartment and under-gunwale rod racks. More...

Lesson of the Week

How to Correctly Tie a Boat to a Dock

Capt. Steve Smart Boating Cover
With current on your bow, first attach the bow line, as it will prevent the boat from drifting backwards, and it will also keep the boat from being pulled away from the dock.

This week Captain Steve goes over eight lessons and guidelines on tying up to a dock and how to correctly use lines in order to secure the boat. Captain Steve will explain what spring lines and breast lines are used for and how to use them to one's advantage when leaving the dock. These are basic rules which all recreational boaters should be aware of. The videos presented this week are part of BoatTEST.com’s Boating Course which is USCG-approved. Watch these video boating lessons every week on BoatTEST.com.
