Mercury Enertia ECO Prop:
Better Speed & Fuel Economy
at 3000 RPM

Mercury Enertia ECO Prop
We recently tested the new Mercury Enertia ECO prop (3 blades)
vs. the Mercury Rev 4 (4 blades).

The Mercury Enertia ECO Prop was made specifically for boaters who typically make long runs offshore, such as anglers running big center consoles with big engines. At 3000 rpm the Enertia ECO Prop propelled our test boat at 21.1 mph -- 5.1 mph faster than the same boat and engines with a Rev 4 prop at the same rpm. At the 3000 rpm setting it got 33% better fuel economy than the Rev 4, as well. Check it out here...

Snapshot Review

Sylvan S3:
Style Plus Unique Toon Design

Sylvan S3
The Sylvan S3 is 24’10” (7.57 m) LOA and has a capacity of 11 people or 2,200-lbs. (998 kgs.).

The Sylvan S3 is not just another 25’ pontoon boat. Rather, it is a carefully-designed platform with stylish lines, a versatile interior, and a large aft deck for launching watersports. Most important, its unique RPT pontoon design has less wetted surface and provides more lift giving the boat obvious advantages when it comes to speed and fuel consumption. More...

Boston Whaler 345 Conquest:
A Tower for Offshore Anglers

Boston Whaler 345 Conquest
The Boston Whaler 345 Conquest comes with an optional tower and a lower helm.

How does she handle from the tower? From our Captain's Report: "Operations from the tower are comfortable, but it’s clearly made for standing rather than sitting while driving. In the sitting position the helm is just out of reach so the long hauls will be spent at the lower helm, likely on auto-pilot." Find out all about it...

Formula 310 Bowrider:
High Seating Capacity with a View

Formula 310 Bowrider
The Formula 310 Bowrider can not only seat 14 people, she can entertain them, too.

Because the Formula 310 Bowrider has eight forward-facing seating positions, many can enjoy the thrill of high speed boating. She is also a versatile entertaining platform. The Formula 310 Bowrider can easily seat 14 people in comfort -- as many as most pontoon boats. With her wet bar and options of a refrigerator and grill she can also become a venue for daytime picnics and evening BBQs. More...

Carolina Skiff DLV 198:
Affordable Boating in Protected Water

Carolina Skiff DLV 198
The Carolina Skiff DLV 198 is designed primarily for inshore fishing, but she also can be a family utility boat.

The Carolina Skiff DLV 198 can handle hard fishing as proven by serious meat fishermen, but she can also convert instantly to a family-friendly boat with little more than adding some cushions. She is an obvious choice for people who want to both fish and go cruising in protected water for a reasonable price. More...

Prestige 550 Flybridge:
Modern Design and Durable Materials

Prestige 550 Flybridge
The master stateroom in the Prestige 550 Flybridge is full beam and in the most comfortable place in the boat.

With three staterooms and at least four main social gathering areas, the Prestige 550 Flybridge has one of the best uses of space in class. This use of space is enhanced by the many different materials Prestige uses, such as the oak finished Alpi wood, leathers, and fine fabrics for upholstery and wall coverings. Add to this the use of subtle shades of color and different textures and the Prestige 550 Flybridge becomes a comfortable island of luxury for the family and friends. More...

Edgewater 230D:
A Production Diesel Sterndrive CC

Edgewater 230D
The Edgewater 230D with Volvo Penta sterndrive propulsion offers greater range
and a clean transom.

For years, sophisticated offshore anglers who wanted range and also wanted to wipe off the intrusive outboard engines from their center console transom have dreamed of inboard diesel power. Now and then, a center console was even built on a custom basis with diesel power. Now, Edgewater is building a production center console with a Volvo Penta D3 220-hp diesel with jackshaft leading to a sterndrive lower unit. More...

Bayliner 210 DB:
Deck-Boat Room Plus Stability

Bayliner 210 DB
The 210 DB is one of Bayliner's growing line of deckboats.

The Bayliner 210 DB (for Deck Boat) has a number of small innovations that in themselves don't seam earth-shaking, but taken together add up to a well-designed boat that has features that many of her higher-priced competitors don't have. Most importantly, Bayliner's designers have produced a solid-handling boat that has tremendous stability. More...

Beneteau Oceanis 55:
Big Boat Sailing As You Like It

Beneteau Oceanis 55
The Beneteau Oceanis 55's standard teak beach is large and inviting and can be used for a number of purposes: the obvious swim platform and diving board, a scuba diving launch site, a "marina" for friends to tie up their tender when visiting, making it easy for them to step aboard, and an easy entry way when backed up to a floating dock.

The Oceanis 55 has five different layouts so no matter what kind of cruising is wanted, there is a layout to suit. And, because the Oceanis 55 is so easy to sail she can be used as a daysailer with short-handed crew. How about some informal match racing with a friend who has one? She's not quite as big as a 12-meter, but a lot easier to sail. More...

Evinrude E-TEC 150 H.O.:
More Torque and High Tech

Evinrude E-TEC 150 H.O.
The EMM seen at right is the raw-water cooled for longer life. It controls all major functions on the engine.

One of the aspects of the Evinrude E-TEC 150 H.O. that is rarely discussed is its inherent safety. It has a get-home feature making it possible to run for 5 hours at a low rpm if it runs out of oil offshore. Also, if a rogue sea comes aboard and swamps the battery, so long as the engine was running before, it will keep operating because it generates its own spark. More...

Tigé R20:
High Capacity in a Compact Hull

Tigé R20
The Tigé R20 is a small boat that makes big wake, but also can fit in a garage.

The Tigé R20 is a compact specialty tow boat that seats 9 to 10 people yet still has a huge stern padded deck for launching all sorts of watersports activities. Another piece of space that is important -- the inside of a garage -- is also likely to be able to handle this package. With a 7'10" (2.38 m) beam and a fold-away tongue on the trailer she should easily fit in any garage with a 9' (2.74 m) opening. More...

Sea Ray 270 SLX:
Large Bowrider with Good Floor Plan

Sea Ray 270 SLX
The Sea Ray 270 SLX is one of the builder's up-market series of sportboats designed to impress both owners and guests.

Sea Ray's 270 SLX is a prime example of a large bowrider that is built to provide a spacious floor plan, good performance and fit-and-finish that is synonymous with Sea Ray. The builder wants to make this boat competitive in the premier class of large bowriders and is putting in amenities to get there. An important one is its "Quiet Ride" technology. More...

Chaparral 203 Vortex VRX:
Jet Boat Performance and Handling

Chaparral 203 Vortex
The introduction of the Chaparral 203 Vortex VRX jet-drive sportboat features a hull designed to maximize performance and handling from a jet-drive power package.

The Chaparral 203 Vortex VRX is an all-new model with a hull designed from the beginning for a jet drive propulsion system. With a single supercharged 250-hp BRP Rotax engine the 203 Vortex VRX easily reached 40 mph and showed she has very good handling characteristics. But the 203 Vortex VRX is more than just a jet boat, she was designed to provide a premium level of comfort and features as well. Our full test and review covers all the details. More...

Tracker Pro Guide V-16 WT:
Economical Boat, Engine and Trailer Package

Tracker Pro Guide V-16 WT
The Tracker Pro Guide V-16 WT is a multi-species boat for everyone.

Tracker’s Pro Guide V-16 WT dual console model meets most of the criteria set down by three-season multi-species anglers. Because of the high windshield the driver and partner are both protected when going out on a brisk morning. A large livewell, a bait bucket in circulating water and plenty of storage for tackle boxes round out the story. The standard boat comes with a 60-hp Mercury and trailer for $18,620 plus dealer prep and freight. More...

Mako 184 CC:
The Smallest of the Brand

Mako 184 CC
We think inshore anglers or those looking for a handy utility boat should
check out the Mako 184 CC.

For those readers who have not been on a Mako in the last three years or so, our suggestion is that it is time for another look. Things have changed at Mako and the parent company, Tracker Marine Group, has done a lot of Mako re-tooling and upgrading. Because of this company's relatively high volume it is able to keep pricing affordable, but quality and fit-and-finish far out-weighs the price when it comes to this boat's notable features. The Mako 184 CC is the smallest model Mako builds. More...

Glastron GTS 187:
New Single-Engine Jet Boat

Glastron GTS 187
Glastron's new GTS 187 enters the jetboat market with the builder's trademark styling.

Glastron's new GTS 187 hit the market this year and has a good story to tell. Not only is she a boat for skinny water, like a rocket from a standing start, has the cockpit space of a larger boat, and is safe when kids are around her in the water -- but she also has a new hull specifically designed for her jet engine application. In addition to her attributes she has a very appealing base price -- $21,307 in the U.S., plus freight and dealer prep. More...

Tiara 50 Coupe:
A New Design and Premium Build

Tiara 50 Coupe
Because the Tiara 50 Coupe has one of the widest beams in class her interior width provides plenty of room for entertaining on the main deck. Note the aft galley at left.

In the Tiara 50 Coupe we see a lavish use of multiple woods, expertly-designed to be cozy and attractive without being overpowering and dark. The clean, unadorned cabinetry is accented with premium modern pulls and handles and angular, squared-off lines, rather than rounded corners, bullnoses, and more conventional millwork. Overall, we think she is a breath of design fresh air in a bullet-proof build. More...
