The FloScan Series N2K
Diesel Fuel Monitoring System (above) will transmit fuel-flow data
to displays from Raymarine, Lowrance and other marine electronics
displays. The data includes everything from gallons per hour burned
to fuel needed to get to your next
With the high price of
fuel—both diesel and gas—boaters are becoming more aware of how much
they're burning and what speeds and RPM settings get them the most
bang for the buck.
A new system from FloScan will allow
boaters with diesel-powered vessels to monitor fuel usage through
navigational displays from Raymarine, Simrad, Lowrance and other

Outboards vs. Sterndrive Diesels?
A Pair of Suzuki
Takes on Twin Yanmar 260-hp

used to be that if you wanted a long-lasting marine
powerplant, the choice of a diesel engine was a no-brainer.
But with the emergence of more reliable, higher horsepower,
and longer warranties on 4-stroke outboards, now they are an
option to seriously consider.
If this isn't the "ultimate"
bowrider, it is close to it.
The Formula 310
Bowrider has most of the amenities of far larger boats.
you are the kind of person who wants the very latest in
technology and the best in quality in everything you buy – and
you want a new bowrider – then you absolutely must watch our
video as Capt. Bob Smith takes and in-depth look at the new

Using Pod Drives
boat models world-wide are now available with IPS
In our opinion the pod drive concept
mated with joystick technology is the most important
innovation to hit the boating industry since the introduction
of fiberglass. By making boat handling so easy, and by making
boats over 30% more fuel efficient at cruising speeds, we
think this development will do more to help the sport grow
than most anything else the industry can do.
Penta has stolen the march on Cummins MerCruiser Diesel (CMD)
by nearly two years and as a result its revolutionary IPS is
now being used by over 50 boat builders word-wide, and is
being installed in well over 100 models. CMD has, so far,
signed up four builders of record.

Faulty Valves Suspected on

Owners Urged to Return Rafts
over-pressurization valves of BFA life rafts need to be

The Coast Guard has issued a
recall of 7,500 BFA Marine life rafts after the company, owned
by Zodiac, identified some failures of over-pressurization
valves on four different models manufactured from 1997 to
2006. To find out
was in my 20s and a charter boat captain on Cape Cod in the
1970s, I owned a 42-foot single-screw, full-keel diesel Bruno
and Stillman with a flying bridge. It was a great 12-knot,
rough-water fishing boat. But it was not ideal for towing in a
friend on this windy day... read more
