Everglades 240 CC- a Smaller Model with Large Amenities

    By Capt. Bob Smith

The 260 CC and the 240 CC are two very popular new models from Everglades.

    Bow Features

The bow of the 240 CC is set up much like her sister models, with twin facing benches and plenty of storage beneath for large gear. Up front is a large 129-gallon fish locker with pump-out for easy cleaning.

In front of the center console are twin seats that form a bench above the 104 quart cooler. Gunwale tops have aggressive grip surfaces for sure footing, two pop-up cleats keep the tops clear while underway, and powder-coated aluminum rails provide a great hand grip when moving around in rolling seas. Inside the center console is a small head unit. It was somewhat difficult for me to get into, due to my six foot 200 pound frame, but mom and the kids should have no problem. Inside the head is access to the back of the helm for electronics installation, some storage space, and a china toilet with macerator and holding tank.

    Helm Station

The helm station was comfortable for a boat this size. A neat feature is the forward window, which has an electric driven arm to raise and lower the window. The hardtop is a nice feature adding cover from the elements, more lighting, and additional room for electronics, such as the VHF and stereo. The dash was outfitted with Honda engine digital meters, and there was room for some additional flush mounted electronics.

    Fishing Features

The command leaning post workstation is impressive. It’s both comfortable and well organized for a 24-footer. The seats are well padded and sturdy, and even during our test run in rough chop, we didn’t feel much. The fire extinguisher was properly placed in a pocket at the driver’s left leg so it is immediately available, and it won’t scratch your leg when stored. I appreciate that Everglades chose a size that can easily be replaced. The sides of the leaning station neatly house Plano tackle boxes. Across the back are knife and tool organizers, which keep the tips and blades covered for added safety, on top is a small sink, and the left side is designed for cutting bait. In the center is a 45-gallon livewell with a clear top and magnetic catch to keep the lid up while you chase the bait with a dip net. Rounded sides and blue lighting should keep the bait lively while you tease the fish.

Under the gunwales in the aft cockpit are three rod racks and a toe kick panel to firmly lock your feet in. And you’ll also be able to comfortably lean against the side wherever you are on the boat, with the standard wraparound coaming pads. After you haul over your catch, you can put them in either the forward locker, or the 50-gallon aft floor locker. The one thing I noted here on the aft locker was that the lid seemed a little small. This shouldn’t be a real problem unless your catch is really huge.

    Specifications

The all-new 240 Center Console measures 24’7” length overall and has a beam of 9’3” making her very stable. This size makes her especially valuable to someone who wants a smaller, more manageable boat, but doesn’t want to give up the safety and stability of the larger wide beam models. The 240 CC weighs 4,000 lbs. and carries 163 gallons of fuel. With the outdrives up her draft is a mere 19 inches, so getting in close to the shallows is not a problem.

    Test Run

The water was really choppy during our test run due to multiple go-fast boats, and large cruisers taking final test rides around the marina after the Miami Show. These conditions did however give us a chance to test how well built these boats are. The 240 CC reached a top speed of 49.7 mph turning 5750 rpm. She cruised most economically at 32.8 mph at 4000 rpm, which will give you about a 377 mile cruise range on a full tank of fuel. The 240 CC was on plane in 3.0 seconds and passed 30 mph in only 5.0 seconds.

The 240 CC is an all around thought out fishing package, that’s got the right amount of ruggedness with creature comforts for the family. Fit and finish is great on this boat, and handling both in the chop and around the marina was accurate and responsive.
