Brief Summary
This spring a new generation of the Volvo Penta DPH lower unit began to be shipped to customers worldwide. With the introduction of the 400-hp Volvo Penta D6 diesel, several aspects of the stern drive were redesigned to better handle the increased torque of this new engine. For starters the upper gearcase bearing assembly has been updated in addition to having an improved gear tooth design. These changes along with improvements to the lower gear case and other areas will increase the drive’s longevity, according to techs we spoke with at Volvo Penta.
