Power Equals Greater Performance

Since every revolution of a 2-stroke engine is a power stroke, significantly more power is produced than an identical 4-stroke engine in the lower and mid rpm ranges, which only generates power every other revolution. The “Pure Power Combustion” process gives the direct injected Evinrude E-TEC G2 200 H.O the following benefits --

• High torque output
• More power to weight
• Higher horsepower at low and mid-range rpm
• Greater efficiency, which equates to more power and less fuel and emissions
• Faster acceleration and faster planing than a 4-stroke
• Superior torque throughout the entire power band than with a 4-stroke

E-TEC G2 Durability

Today’s boaters demand an outboard they can rely on. The Evinrude E-TEC G2 200 H.O. delivers durability through functional and cutting-edge design.

Look --

• Magneto (alternator) eliminates belts or pulleys
• Internal hydraulic steering system eliminates external gears from corroding and getting in the way
• Titanium oxide coating reduces corrosion
• Advanced starboard to starboard engine design maximizes acceleration for strong hole shots and further adds to the reliability.
• Robust gear case to handle shock loadings to gears and shafts when catching air

The Less Maintenance Factor

The absence of any dealer scheduled maintenance for 5 Years or 500 Hours of operation is an important feature of the Evinrude E-TEC G2 200 H.O. and the entire family of E-TEC G2 engines. Outboards often require significant time and money to maintain. But when it comes to maintenance we know of no other outboards that come close to Evinrude's program. Here are some of the reasons why --

• Over 100 fewer parts than a typical 4-stroke engine
• Space age alloys used throughout
• No critical break-in period required
• No oil changes
• Electronic throttle and shift requiring no adjustment
• Larger water pump
• Industry leading 81-degrees of tilt-up so engine lifts completely out of the water
• Larger surface area sacrificial zinc anodes
• Easily removable panel design
• Quick, on-demand winterization capabilities

A Modern Cowling Design

It’s more than just achieving a cowling design which sets the Evinrude E-TEC G2 200 H.O. apart from the rest of its market competitors, incorporated within the futuristic esthetic design are elements, which assist with performance, convenience and noise reduction.

The unique panel design features lightweight side panels with six quarter turn captive screws for easy removal. As a convenience, the screws have retaining rings on the backside, allowing them to remain secured to the panel. The top cover consists of a quick release latch, revealing easy access to the oil tank fill.

Integrated within the cowling, baffled airflow ports increase cooling and ventilation to the powerhead, therefore increasing performance. Additionally, the airports allowed us during testing to register a quiet 73 dBA at the helm while at idle speed.

Reliable Magneto Power Through Traditional Technology

At the V6 210 cu. in. powerhead, Evinrude has synced a 100-year-old charging technology to create trouble-free charging capabilities. In simple terms, the engine's flywheel has magnets attached to it. Located directly beneath the flywheel are a series of wire coils. With each pass of the magnets over the coils, electricity is generated.

This system was chosen for the boater or angler who utilizes a host of on-board electronics, lights and pumps. The Evinrude E-TEC G2 200 H.O. generates 133 Amps with a 50 Amps going directly to the battery. As an added bonus and in the event of the batteries going bad, the Evinrude E-TEC G2 200 H.O. has the ability to run free of any connection to the on board batteries.

Direct-Injection Power Through Adaptation

All other direct-injection engines on the market today are an adaptation of direct-injection through a carbureted block. With the Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines, Evinrude built the engine block around direct-injection technology.

Through patented software called Computational Fluid Dynamics, Evinrude’s engineers have optimized the Evinrude E-TEC G2 engine to blend the optimum mix of 14 parts of air to one part of gas vapor to create better performance, power and lower emissions.

Part of the re-design which assists with the optimization is Evinrude’s Starboard-to-Starboard Exhaust system. On our Evinrude E-TEC G2 200 H.O. test motor, both banks of cylinders on the V6 block posses an exhaust outlet on the port side of the engine. The result, by virtue of crankshaft rotation, pushes the pistons to the cooler starboard intake side of the cylinder wall during the power cycle.

Evinrude's starboard/starboard design reduces stress and metal distortion within the cylinder walls.

There is a noticeable absence of external rack/ram steering cylinder and hoses in the outboard well. The engineers at Evinrude have applied an internal steering system, Dynamic Power Steering, to the E-TEC G2 200 H.O. engines. Factory tested before delivered to the dealer, the Integral Hydraulic Steering Mechanism is truly a game changer and a major selling point of the Evinrude E-TEC G2 power plant.

Built into the drive trim cylinder mechanism, the Dual Axis rigging or rotary actuator also offers the consumer another check mark in the maintenance free column. Trimming up and out of the water to the tune of an impressive 81-degrees -- means no prop or lower unit remains in the water on most vessels.

Strategically housed within a corrosion proof casing, notice the vertical steering gears, which have replaced traditional horizontal external mechanisms.

Vertical Mounting Rigidity

In our test, we found that the Evinrude E-TEC G2 200 H.O. vertical mounting technology added rigidity where traditional c-clamp mounting applications have traditionally fallen short-at the source of propulsion. Evinrude’s elimination of an antiquated mounting design will appeal to those looking for a multiple outboard engine application where zero flex and precise handling at high speeds and heavy loads is critical to performance.

Evinrude engineers expect the gear lube in the Evinrude E-TEC G2 200 H.O. to last a long time. To assist with monitoring oil level and clarity a convenient sight tube is located on the rear starboard side of the engine.

No More Lower Unit Woes

Performance boaters expect a lot out of their equipment. Navigating great distances at high speed in challenging conditions tests the integrity of the entire engine, especially the gear case.

Evinrude’s new SLX gearcase features larger gearing, and prop shaft, a hydrodynamic design to reduce drag and a cambered skeg to reduce steering torque as well as improve handling.

Exceeding Industry Emission Standards

Striving to produce an outboard with the lowest emissions, Evinrude engineers tell us that the E-TEC G2 200 H.O was designed with the future in mind and features the lowest emissions of any combustion outboard in the world.

Enjoying a 75% reduction in total hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide has resulted in a cleaner more efficient engine.

Warranty Selling Points

Our Evinrude E-TEC G2 200 H.O. comes complete with an industry leading 5-Year/500 Hour Anti-Corrosion Warranty.

Standard on all Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines and rigging, Evinrude can offer this as all elements of the engine exposed to the harsh saltwater environment have been protected.

Maintenance free for 5-Years/500 Hours allows the boater more time on the water and less time and money spent at the dealership.

For the northern boater, Evinrude has simplified the easy to use Auto-Winterization feature on its G2 line of engines. Now a simple push of a button can winterize one's engine whenever they desire. This guarantees if a warm day presents itself, after they’ve winterized, they can simply hit the water and winterize the engine again at the end of the day while other boaters can only watch the fun.
