A Modern Cowling Design

It’s more than just achieving a cowling design which sets the Evinrude E-TEC G2 200 H.O. apart from the rest of its market competitors, incorporated within the futuristic esthetic design are elements, which assist with performance, convenience and noise reduction.

The unique panel design features lightweight side panels with six quarter turn captive screws for easy removal. As a convenience, the screws have retaining rings on the backside, allowing them to remain secured to the panel. The top cover consists of a quick release latch, revealing easy access to the oil tank fill.

Integrated within the cowling, baffled airflow ports increase cooling and ventilation to the powerhead, therefore increasing performance. Additionally, the airports allowed us during testing to register a quiet 73 dBA at the helm while at idle speed.

Reliable Magneto Power Through Traditional Technology

At the V6 210 cu. in. powerhead, Evinrude has synced a 100-year-old charging technology to create trouble-free charging capabilities. In simple terms, the engine's flywheel has magnets attached to it. Located directly beneath the flywheel are a series of wire coils. With each pass of the magnets over the coils, electricity is generated.

This system was chosen for the boater or angler who utilizes a host of on-board electronics, lights and pumps. The Evinrude E-TEC G2 200 H.O. generates 133 Amps with a 50 Amps going directly to the battery. As an added bonus and in the event of the batteries going bad, the Evinrude E-TEC G2 200 H.O. has the ability to run free of any connection to the on board batteries.

Direct-Injection Power Through Adaptation

All other direct-injection engines on the market today are an adaptation of direct-injection through a carbureted block. With the Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines, Evinrude built the engine block around direct-injection technology.

Through patented software called Computational Fluid Dynamics, Evinrude’s engineers have optimized the Evinrude E-TEC G2 engine to blend the optimum mix of 14 parts of air to one part of gas vapor to create better performance, power and lower emissions.

Part of the re-design which assists with the optimization is Evinrude’s Starboard-to-Starboard Exhaust system. On our Evinrude E-TEC G2 200 H.O. test motor, both banks of cylinders on the V6 block posses an exhaust outlet on the port side of the engine. The result, by virtue of crankshaft rotation, pushes the pistons to the cooler starboard intake side of the cylinder wall during the power cycle.

Evinrude's starboard/starboard design reduces stress and metal distortion within the cylinder walls.

There is a noticeable absence of external rack/ram steering cylinder and hoses in the outboard well. The engineers at Evinrude have applied an internal steering system, Dynamic Power Steering, to the E-TEC G2 200 H.O. engines. Factory tested before delivered to the dealer, the Integral Hydraulic Steering Mechanism is truly a game changer and a major selling point of the Evinrude E-TEC G2 power plant.

Built into the drive trim cylinder mechanism, the Dual Axis rigging or rotary actuator also offers the consumer another check mark in the maintenance free column. Trimming up and out of the water to the tune of an impressive 81-degrees -- means no prop or lower unit remains in the water on most vessels.
