Sea Ray yachts get better every year as they listen to customers needs and produce vessels with a great attention to details and comfort. And even though this is the smallest motoryacht in the family it offers almost every amenity that comes on the largest Sea Ray.
Bridge Deck
The air conditioned bridge of the 40 serves not only as the helm but as a spacious party patio with an elevated view. Located aft is an almost beam width settee which provides tons of seating and has immediate access to the wet bar. Included is a large counter top and sink above, with a refrigerator and cabinets below. There is also good stowage space here, ensuring the bar will always be well stocked. The down side of the raised bridge is the aft staircase that leads to the swim platform. Despite having good handrails, the staircase is near vertical and could make for some dangerous situations, especially when wet.
Transitioning to the foredeck is facilitated by wide side decks and a tall, bow rail. At the bow, is a pair of anchor lockers, a windlass and a freshwater washdown spigot.
Helm Features
The helm is a blend of high-tech electronics coupled with multi-function analog gauges. Taking center stage is Sea Ray’s proprietary on board computer screen which displays navigation and data for the yachts mechanical and electrical systems. All of this is easily accessible from the wide captain’s chair that offers space for your favorite ship mate.
Luxurious Salon
The roomy salon offers expansive seating with long, sculpted sofas on both the starboard and port sides. The starboard unit can be manually pulled out to provide additional sleeping space or can be used as a wide lounge for enjoying the flat panel TV and surround sound stereo system.
A stunningly finished hi-low table can be used as a coffee table or as a small dining table with two stools for added seating. Also located in the salon, is the power distribution panel to port and the ship’s built in vacuum unit beneath the companionway steps.
The galley is situated a few steps down from the salon and offers richly appointed cabinets, a solid surface counter top and Mahogany flooring.
The amenities are neatly concealed and include a two-burner cooktop, a full-sized coffeemaker, molded sink and trash receptacle, microwave oven and refrigerator/ freezer.
Accommodations
The guest stateroom is located forward in the boat and features a pair of single berths that convert with a filler cushion to make up a double sized V-berth. Your guest will have adequate storage and their own TV/DVD combo for entertainment. A guest head is located to port and boasts its own separate stand up shower. Of course a vanity with sink and a VacuFlush toilet are also lavishly presented.
Last but not least is the owner’s cabin. Located aft in the yacht is a very private stateroom that features an island queen berth with storage below. Additional storage is everywhere but I found the cedar-lined hanging closets to be a bit small. Flanking the lavishly designed vanity, is a private shower forward and separate head compartment located aft.
Specs
With a beam that measures 14 feet, 3 inches you are guaranteed comfort aboard the 41 foot, 9 inch long motoryacht. Considering that this floating luxury condo weighs 26,500 pounds dry, you may want to consider upgrading to diesel power, especially if you plan on traveling many miles. If you don’t want to shell out the extra money for the diesels, then the standard 8.1 liter inboard gasoline motors will provide good performance with 370 horsepower delivered to each prop.
Performance
With the engines wide open and turning 2680 rpm, we recorded a respectable top speed of 30.2 miles per hour. The best fuel economy was calculated to be at 19.7 miles per hour or 2000 rpm. At this leisurely pace, you can expect to receive upwards of 4 tenths of a mile per gallon, or range of 118 miles from the Motoryacht’s 300 gallon fuel capacity.
So, as you can see the 40 Motoryacht has all the features that make extended cruising very comfortable.
