Princecraft Vacanza 210 V I/O (Not in Production) Captain's Report

Tested by Capt. Bob Smith

Princecraft boats are built across the border in Princeville Quebec, Canada. They’re aluminum boats, which believe me; you have to look hard at in the water to believe that. The high gloss Acrythane finish is so smooth and shiny, it appears to be fiberglass to the untrained eye, especially from a distance. They use techniques that eliminate most of the welding and riveting you are used to seeing when you look at many aluminum boats, and are not the boxy looking boats you saw years ago. Princecraft packs in most of the features you will need for a great day of fun on the water and leaves only four factory installed options and nine dealer installed options to choose and personalize your craft.

Layout

You can enter this boat from the bow or stern. My test ride had the factory installed optional fiberglass bow section with halogen docking lights, covered beach boarding ladder and anchor locker. Primary boarding from the water is still from the rear swim platform and telescoping ladder. Plush bench seats on rotocast bases are port and starboard forward and they have storage below the seat bottoms. An in-floor compartment near the center can serve as wet storage or as a cooler for beverages on a long hot day. Just aft of that is in-floor storage for larger items like skis and wakeboards.

Behind the Wheel

The helm station is also fiberglass and sports a quick release windscreen so you don’t have to worry about ripping it off while storing or trailering the boat. A mahogany tilt wheel and thermoformed wood grain dash accents the helm. Faria gauges keep an eye on all the critical functions underway, and seating at the helm is plush and adjustable. L-shaped seating wraps around the port to stern aft side with hinged seat bottoms and more storage under them. The engine hatch serves as part of the beam width sun pad and has lots of room to manage the power plant. The starboard side walk through has a pop-up privacy enclosure for changing out of wet clothes, and the walk-through leads to an easy to board transom with telescoping ladder.

Performance

The deep-Vee hull delivered a solid ride that smoothed out nearly all the waves and wakes as we tooled around Lake Ozark. The boat had reversed chines, which delivered a very dry ride even though I could see a lot of spray as we tore through the wind driven waves. During the worst of the breezes, she seemed a bit stiff in the steering, but the next morning she handled very smoothly with no hesitation or feedback in turns. I found I was able to drive this deck boat like I drive many runabouts that are shorter than her nearly 21 feet. Bow rise was not bad and she cut a fairly tight turn without skipping or sliding and losing much of her speed at cruise. I can envision a skier doing very well behind this craft and tubing would be a blast! You would think a metal boat would transmit sound much better and therefore give you a louder, harder ride, but Princecraft has managed the sound well and smoothed the ride with their use of a deep-Vee and reversed chines.

The Vacanza 210I/O was out of the hole in 3.7 seconds and was cruising along at 30 mph in only 7.9 seconds. She averaged about 28 mph at 3000 rpms, burning about 6.4 gph and topped out at 4900 rpms and 47.7mph burning about 15.8 gph. Sound levels were great for an aluminum boat, rivaling fiberglass with a low of 64 dB-A at idle and 87 dB-A at top end.

Specs

My Fiftieth Anniversary Edition test boat was decked out in Regal Red. Her overall length is 20’11” on centerline and 101” in beam. She provides good protection for small ones aboard with a transom height of 33”. This boat was equipped with a MerCruiser 4.3L inboard engine with an Alpha series outdrive and 19 Pitch. Her draft is approximately 33” with the outdrive down and her weight is approximately 2,990 lbs, which is lighter than other deck boats of her size constructed of fiberglass. She can also carry 50 gallons of fuel.

If you would like to have the entertainment space and stability a deck boat can deliver, but really hate to give up the performance and thrill a runabout provides, the Vacanza 210 V I/O makes a great choice that fits both needs nicely.
