Skeeter WX2190 (2014-) Captain's Report

A Big Water Fishing Machine

When it comes to boating, size can matter and serious fishermen know the importance of choosing the right rig for the job. If anglers are looking for large, multispecies fish in big, rough water a larger boat with higher freeboard is called for. The Skeeter WX2190 is such a boat.

The 2190 is 21' in length with a 8'5'' beam. Skeeter built her with its relatively new REACT deep keel design that helps this boat track more smoothly and reliably in big water against stiff winds or strong currents. The deeper keel contributes to noticeably better handling, helping this boat stay on fish when trolling or drifting.

Skeeter WX2190

The WX2190 has potential seating for six aft of the windshield, plus an additional seat base in the bow. The three fishing chairs shown come standard.

A Floor Plan Making Good Use of Available Space

This boat has advertised space for up to six people. As large as it is, six might feel slightly crowded, but certainly four can fish quite comfortably in Skeeter’s.

The layout includes two standard fold-away rear-deck jump seats forward of the transom that unfold to reveal tackle storage. The fixed driver and passenger seats have seat sliders, power-adjust pedestals and locking swivel features. Two additional seat bases are located aft of the console seating, with another base positioned on the forward deck. The 2190 comes equipped with one additional moveable power pedestal fishing chair included as standard.

The WX2190’s bow is pre-wired for a trolling motor. Shown is a moveable power pedestal fishing seat mounted in the bow seat plate.

Storage is just about everywhere. Under the front step bow deck, there’s rod storage in the center, with gear storage port and starboard. A below deck built-in 14-gallon cooler which can double as an optional livewell or baitwell, is also located in the starboard bow, just forward of the driver’s console. Small side compartments are also located in the bow. All storage compartments have flush mounted latch/locking systems.

Port under-deck bow storage compartment is pictured with center rod storage shown in inset photo. Another bow gear compartment is starboard.

In the cockpit, the modular dual consoles have small under-console shelf storage on both sides. In addition to the aft jump seat tackle storage we already mentioned, another tackle management system is centered between the consoles in the step up to the bow.

Aft of the console seating, Skeeter includes another large, side rod storage compartment in the port side and there is storage to starboard for other gear.

Live and Baitwells

Between the stern jump seats, Skeeter positions a 34-gallon livewell centered, with a 6-gallon baitwell behind the portside jump seat. A stern cooler is behind the starboard jump seat.

Skeeter WX2190

The stern livewell has a 34-gallon capacity and is flanked by two fold-away jump seats. A cooler and 6-gallon baitwell are aft of the stern jump seats.

The livewell control system comes standard, furnishing independent fill, recirculating and drain modes and pump timer. Oxygenator livewell aeration systems are available as optional equipment. Bottom line, the 2190 is built with ample room for bait, and prize catches.

Power and Fishability

The cockpit layout and amenities are reasonably attractive and sensible. The WX2190 has standard tilt hydraulic steering and digital flush mounted controls. Anglers may choose from both Humminbird and Lowrance optional electronics and accessories. The 2190 is rated for up to 300 horsepower with 8-inch engine setback, and she has a 51-gallon fuel capacity.

Auxiliary Power

In the stern, a stern trolling motor panel and wiring system are optional. A kicker engine plus a remote control for a kicker are also optional.. The bow panel with troll receptacle is standard. A 6-guage trolling motor wiring system with three battery trays is standard, along with a Minn Kota 15 amp x 4 bank battery charger and Minn Kota 101 Terrova I-Pilot 60-inch shaft and sliding removable mount.

In spite of its relative large size as multispecies fishing rigs go, the WX2190’s draft is only 16''. An interior cockpit depth of just 25-inches means comfort with good spray protection when seated in this boat.

An auto or manual 800 gallons-per-hour bilge pump and manual 1,500 GPH bilge pump are standard.

Stern jump seats fold open to reveal tackle management systems contained within both the port and starboard seating.

Options and Accessories

The 2190 has standard interior lighting, non-skid floor and snap-in floor carpeting. In addition to extra power pedestal fishing chairs, an optional bike seat with power pedestal may also be added to flesh out the floor and seating plan.

In addition to optional oxygenator livewell aeration and fishing electronics already mentioned, Skeeter provides options for a Sirius-ready AM/FM radio or AM/FM radio with CD player. If they choose, boaters may purchase optional wrap-around windscreens for the dual consoles, and stainless steel stern rails as well as 30-inch stainless steel bow rails.

Other options that may be of interest to fishermen who are particular about their boat include a Hamby keel protector and custom boat and engine covers. The WX2190 has an attractive trailer package with lots of standard features and plenty of options to dress out the look of the combo.

The WX2190 Trailer Package

The WX2190’s tandem axle trailer has color coordinated polymer fenders, custom aluminum wheels, torsion axles, single-axle disc brakes, swing-away tongue, retractable tie-downs, spare tire and carrier along with back-up lights, all standard. Options include loading lights, a winch post ladder and stainless steel or Tuff Coat fenders. Disc brakes for the second axle are also available. The overall length on the trailer is 25-feet. The trailer design aesthetics are a nice complement and contribute to an attractive package.
