Need a boat that will keep everyone happy? The Hurricane SunDeck 2400 OB has the versatility to make your day. By removing the cumbersome engine box from the I/O version and replacing it with an outboard engine, the cockpit has been opened up, creating all new entertaining possibilities. Today, we take a look at some of the features that make the 2400 SunDeck such a hit, and we go over some of the available options worth considering as well. Remember, Hurricane is the company which invented the deckboat, so it should know what its doing.

Hurricane SunDeck 2400 OB (2010-) Captain's Report
Can’t decide what kind of boating you’re going to do today? If it’s cruising, fishing, skiing, or wakeboarding, then the Hurricane SunDeck 2400 OB has got you covered.
Let the Good Times Roll
The simple fact is, boaters love deckboats, and with good reason. Not too many bowriders can give you the same space in the same length of boat. And to top it off, they add the creature comforts to seal the deal. Starting in the stern of the 2400 OB, one thing is hard to miss, and that’s the absence of an engine box. By mating an outboard to the SunDeck 2400, Hurricane has added to the already voluminous space onboard. With a 300 horsepower max rating even your largest friends will enjoy being towed behind this boat.
Plenty of seating in this open layout. Notice the dual in-deck storage compartments. We count 15 drink holders.
The refreshment center will serve nicely to keep thirst down and temperatures at bay with storage for a 25 qt (23.6 L) cooler below, an insulated compartment up top as well as a sink with pressurized water. Next to the cooler below, is a trash receptacle for easy cleanup. When it’s time for a snack, the standard pedestal table will make meals a breeze. One item on the options list that we feel is a must have, would be the stainless gas grill. Few things are more rewarding than a BBQ on the water.
Seating
L-shaped seating in the cockpit is mated nicely with dual bucket seats for the driver and observer. Swinging the observer’s seat around creates an instant lounger for watching whoever might be at the end of the towline, or just catching rays. Roomy lounge seats in the bow will create a relaxing atmosphere while still maintaining the roominess that sundecks are famous for, and if you don’t want to move the aft table to the bow, you can opt for a second pedestal table. There is storage underneath all bench seats, and they are all ventilated to keep your stuff dry and mildew free.
Go Ahead, Jump In
Reboarding is easy with swim ladders both fore and aft. Both are three step, and we like to see four steps to make it just a bit easier to climb aboard. Both retract and lie flush and covered on the deck. The stern is naturally fitted with a half swim platform due to the outboard, but that’s a fair tradeoff to having more room in the cockpit.
The swim ladder on the stern and beach ladder on the bow make re-boarding a simple matter. They are both 3-step, we’d like to see four steps on the stern.
Going Fishing?
If fishing is in your game plan for the boat, Hurricane has you covered there as well. While all items are optional, you have your choice of three fish finders (one includes GPS), two different fish chairs for the bow deck, a livewell with re-circulating pump, rod storage clips for keeping the rods under the gunwale, and finally an electric trolling motor.
Helm
The helm is neat and orderly, with all rocker switches off to port, gauges above include speedometer; fuel; voltmeter; tachometer; hour meter. Oil pressure and engine temperature will be relegated to alarms on the engine. We love the three stainless steel drink holders, since one inevitably gets used for holding the cell phone or sunglasses. Now you can actually hold stuff and even have a spot for your drink, too. With Yamaha’s engine attached, the engine control is fly-by-wire for ultra-smooth operation.
This panel includes an optional fishfinder/GPS. Notice how all the rocker switches are grouped together, and the horn button is instantly recognizable. Three drink holders allow you to have a place for your sunglasses or cell phone while still leaving space for a drink.
Other “Must Have” Options
So is there anything else that we simply couldn’t live without? Sure… to start with, a digital in-dash depth gauge. That’s a necessity on any boat. If you plan on using your SunDeck 2400 to maximize your water sports activities, then the wakeboard tower with racks will be next on the list. If tunes will make or break your day then you have upgrade choices available for that too. You may want to consider the Thunder and Lightning option which includes a Sony receiver, Polk Audio speakers and sub-woofer, and an 1800W MTX amplifier. And there’s always the optional transom remote and IPod docking station. If you have a lot of lady friends, then you may want to consider either a Porta-Potti or Vacu-Flush head as well.
The “changing room” is standard, but you may want to consider the optional Porta-Potti or Vacu-Flush head to go along with it.
So What Else is Standard
A lot actually. This boat comes with essentials such as dock lights, bimini top, all stainless steel hardware, a sink in the head compartment, fresh water washdowns in both bow and stern, a Sony stereo with MP3 input, and courtesy deck lighting. Inarguably a good list that includes items that we’ve seen on several options lists.
If you can picture in your head all the things you’d like to be doing on the water, chances are, most all of them can be accomplished in the Hurricane SunDeck 2400 OB.
