Grand Harbour 57 Captain's Report
Grand Harbour 57: A lot of boat for the money!
There are a lot of things to consider when purchasing a pilothouse motoryacht such as layout, construction, and design. Grand Harbour has incorporated all of these key points into their building process to produce a very comfortable cruising yacht.
The engineers and designers at Grand Harbour have combined foresight and thought to produce one well designed cruising yacht that is both fast and stable. Her wide beam of 16 feet and dry weight of 45,000 pounds make for a seaworthy ride while the hull design puts her up on top and planning at a comfortable and fast cruising speed.
At the bow a high stainless steel bow rail ensures safety when forward. There’s also an integrated anchor pulpit with anchor roller and hawse pipe that connect to an anchor windlass with remote operation for easy anchoring when cruising. On the foredeck there’s a large sun pad for your hedonists and each vessel comes standard with a six- person life raft for offshore safety. The walkways outside the pilothouse and salon are wide and non-skidded and the dive platform at the transom is large enough for a full crew of water enthusiasts.
The aftdeck features transom doors on each side of the stern and the rear lounge is perfect for entertaining after a day’s journey. The aft deck table is through bolted to the lazarette hatch making access to this compartment as simple as tilting the table over. Access to the large engine room is also located on the aft deck and utilizes a vertical stainless ladder for entry. There’s also abundant storage in the engine room.
The salon is wide and roomy utilizing almost the full beam of the boat. There’s an L-shaped leather lounge with table to port, an entertainment center and storage center forward, and a choice of twin barrel seats or a smaller leather couch to starboard. Entrance to the master stateroom is also located in the salon which adds to the privacy of the master.
The master stateroom uses the full beam of the vessel and features a great layout with an island pedestal bed, vanity with storage and mirror, an office work space to help keep your affairs in order when at sea, and a master head ensuite that is lavishly appointed as well.
The pilothouse contains the lower helm and is well designed for both navigation and entertaining. There’s an L-shaped dinette with table to starboard and just opposite is the U-shaped galley that features a full size refrigerator freezer, convection microwave, double stainless steel sinks, a flat surface stovetop, and ample counter space for food preparation.
Down a beautifully curved stairwell forward from the pilothouse are the guest staterooms. The VIP guest stateroom is located forward and also features an island pedestal bed, cedar-lined closet, an entry into the guest head that can also be accessed from the hallway. The third guest stateroom is located to starboard and features over/ under twin bunks and a storage closet.
The flybridge helm is nicely designed and affords excellent visibility both fore and aft. The flybridge also provides a great entertainment area with lounge seating, wet bar, and optional grill. The aft deck of the flybridge has enough room for a midsize inflatable tender and davit for easy launch and retrieval.
Our test vessel was powered by a pair of Caterpillar 660 hp 3196 TA’s although each power option is the choice of the customer.
With her sleek profile and overall length of 60’2” the Grand Harbour 57 is a fantastic cruising vessel featuring an excellent layout, superb woodwork and finishes, and performance that is hard to find among pilothouse cruisers. Other big plusses for the Grand Harbour are the components used, which are all top notch, servicing is easy and well thought out, and she’s manageable for a couple to operate and run.
