A sophisticated and impressive motoryacht.

All you have to do is look at the 620 and you know she’s a serious machine with lots to offer. She’s quite magnificent to look at and overpowering on the water. Up on the flybridge there's a lounge

Stylishly appointed with plush leather sofas.

The salon is good-size and offers a large wraparound leather sofa to port and a smaller two-seater sofa to starboard. Up forward there's also a raised dining area for four.

There's easy access to both helm stations.

The lower helm station provides an air-conditioned ride. From here you also have quick and easy access to the flybridge through a hatch and seven steps up, which are right behind the helm.

The 620 offers live-a-aboard accommodations.

The master stateroom is very large mostly because of its amidship location on the boat. It has a good-sized wardrobe and plenty of storage space. It also has it’s own head that is very spacious.

Ferretti 620 Motoryacht Captain's Report

The Ferretti 620 is a dynamically-styled and designed yacht with classic Italian lines that combine the performance and beauty of a Mediterranean day boat with the utility and accommodations of a traditional American motoryacht. The mission that the Ferretti Group set out for itself for this boat was not an easy one, but we think the company has pulled it off with élan. The classic styling will keep the 620 looking smarter well into the next decade and her well-thought-out accommodations makes this yacht ideal for entertaining. And with the Lira at what must be a 20-year low, it is an excellent time for Americans to get a lot of very well-built boats for a sweet price.

The Ferretti brothers, Norberto and Alessandro, started their shipyard on the Adriatic side of Italy in 1968 while being dealers for some of the best Italian builders. By the 1980’s their quality and style was among the highest in the country known for beautiful boats and high performance. By the last 80’s their boats had become popular all over Europe, and the rest as they say, is history. Now the Ferretti Group is composed of Bertram and Pershing in addition to Ferretti, three of the most respected marks in the boating world.

Let’s start with the hull and go from there. The Ferretti 620 is new but her hull is not. That’s a good thing. There just isn’t that much innovation possible in hull shapes and once a builder has found a good hull, he is wise to stick with it. The 620 was designed on the popular and proven 62’ hull that was known for its successful compromise of ride, stability and performance. With a 15.5-degree deadrise, this warped hull design has a 3:1 length/beam ratio, which is as aesthetic pleasing as it is practical.

The Italians are famous for their “Bella Figure” — the beautiful appearance — and the style, exterior fit and finish and the interior joinerwork, all the forte of good Italian builders, are very much in evidence with the 620. Ferretti believes its customers are used to luxury and are not embarrassed by having it. So they lay it on.

How to describe the flying bridge? How about La Dolce Vita? Aft is a U-shaped settee wrapped around a table, large enough for 8 people to have lunch al fresco or enjoy cocktails at sunset. To port is a sun pad with head rests large enough for two, maybe three. This is a feature any sun goddess will love because she’s hidden from view by those on the dock or in the harbor, but near her captain at the nearby helm. She’ll also like it because she can sunbath while underway. Of course, if your goddess is more adventuresome, she might want to use the double sun pad on the bow, which is a nice place to cool down on those particularly hot summer days.

European regulations require a liferaft to be aboard a boat of this size and so one is tucked underneath the sun pad. The flying bridge also has a wet bar, electric grill, refrigerator and sink, making this a wonderful entertaining platform, and undoubtedly the most popular spot on the boat. But there are two other great entertaining spots on the 620 as well.

The cockpit is wide, going nearly the full beam of 16’ 9’’ and there is plenty of room here for deck chairs and a table. Because of the overhand from the flybridge there is shade here for anyone not wanting the sun and it is an excellent place for dining. When it’s time for guests to come aboard there’s a flip-down boarding step that leads straight to the cockpit. Like most Italian boats, this one is designed to moor stern to.

Access to the engine room is from the cockpit through a hatch with gas-assist struts. Below you will find the necessary items like the dipstick, water and oil fills are within easy reach. The Ferretti 620 is powered by twin 1050-hp MAN engines driving through V-drives to 5-bladed props. V-drives are not particularly common on American-built boats, but they are used extensively in Europe. The V-drives allow the engines to be placed aft permitting more room for accommodations forward, as well as shifting weight aft which improves performance.

Boats of this size in Europe usually have paid crew aboard and it is customary for there to be separate crew quarters and private access to those quarters. On the Ferretti, twin crew bunks are just forward of the engine with a bulkhead separating this area from the owner and guests staterooms forward. This privacy and separations of the crew from guests makes extended cruising all more pleasant for everyone concerned.

Heading on in you are greeted by a luxurious salon that is surrounded by leather sofas and glossy cherry wood trim that give the 620 her elegant flair. The salon offers a U-shaped sofa to port and a two-seater loveseat to starboard, which is great for conversations and can easily be transformed into a dining area. Forward and a step up you’ll find a second dinette right next to the helm station that can seat four.

The lower helm station provides an air-conditioned ride. From here you also have quick and easy access to the flybridge through a hatch and seven steps up, which are right behind the helm.

The galley on the 620 is just what you’d expect to find on a boat of this size. It’s equipped for gourmet cooking with refrigerator/freezer, four-burner cooktop, microwave/convection oven, pantry with sink, and lots of counter space, which is a luxury in itself.

The master cabin is unusually large with a double berth and good-sized wardrobe with plenty of storage areas. It also has its own ensuite head and shower. The second stateroom up forward is perfect for your VIP guests. It boasts just a many features as the master cabin. The third private stateroom has two separate twin berths and a full-size locker which actually makes it great for kids or even two other adult guests that may not be a couple. It also has a door leading to its semi-private head with shower.

Out on our test run the Ferretti 620 cruised at a comfortable 22.9 mph and showed us a top-end speed of 40 mph. Her big MAN engines got the 620 up on plane in a few seconds and thanks to her massive 951-gallon fuel tank she has a range of 601miles at 1700 rpm. The 620 is a beautiful work of art with powerful 12-cylinder MAN engines that get her out of the water faster than you’d believe.

The Ferretti 620 is really an impressive and sophisticated motoryacht that stands out amongst the crowd in terms of high speed and style. Once aboard, you may never want to step back on land again.
