Hydra-Sports Vector 2200 CC (2006-) Captain's Report

The Smallest Vector: Hydra-Sports 2200CC- Compact and Capable

By Capt. Bob Smith

Hydra-Sports wraps up the line of Vector Series center console fishing boats with the introduction of the 2200CC this year. Hydra-Sports now has three sizes of muscle fishing machines. This is an all-composite boat meaning you don’t have to worry about the boat succumbing to the ravages of water and weather.

Carolina Flare and Bow Features

The 2200’s wide Carolina flare delivers a wave-splitting dry ride. Stainless steel 8-inch pop-up cleats are sturdy and well out of the way when working lines. Recessed grab rails surround the front for a great hand hold and coaming bolsters provide backrests when cruising as well as added leg protection when fishing.

Up front is an anchor locker with overboard drain. The bench seats double as the insulated fish boxes with overboard drains. The full length piano hinges mean the lids fit well and will close solidly for years to come. In front of the console is another bench seat that has an insulated cooler built in. Gunwale tops have two stainless steel Lee rod holders on each side.

T-Top

The standard t-top has a net storage compartment for life jackets and also has two spreader lights and a hinged lay-down anchor light. Along the sides are grab rails for safety and the heavy-duty aluminum top bracing provides additional hand holds.

Helm Station

Analog gauges are clustered to the left of this functional helm. The center area is designated for flush-mounted gear such as the optional Raymarine C80 electronics package. On the far right is a dry box, and below is room for a stereo. Our test model came equipped with the optional Sirius Satellite ready package. The leaning post seat was outfitted with the optional rocket launchers across the back. Just below is a 31-gallon lighted livewell with 500 gph pump and overboard drain in the base.

Aft Casting

The area aft provides a large space to cast and work the fish. In each corner of the stern on our test model were folding jump seats. These seats are optional and do add extra seating, but unfortunately they block the access panels to the shut-offs and bilges. There is access through the stern to the shut-offs if you opt for the jump seats.

If you like to take a dip in the ocean, a swim ladder which is located on the port corner of the stern is an option.

Specifications and Performance

The 2200CC measures 22’4” length overall with a trailerable 8’ 6’’ beam. She weighs 2800 pounds dry and has a sporty 20 degree deadrise. Draft with the engine up is 15 inches. She is rated for a maximum of 300 horsepower and carries 150 gallons of fuel and 12 gallons of fresh water.

We tested the 2200CC in mostly 1’ chop on the Intracoastal Waterways of Sarasota, Florida. She handled very well and delivered a dry ride. Turns were sharp and under control.

The 2200 was on plane in a zippy 4.3 seconds and passing 30 mph in just 8.7 seconds. I found she cruised most economically at 3500 rpm and 23 mph for a full tank cruising range of 403 miles. We pushed her hard in the heavy chop and found she was capable of 48.2 mph at top end which will deliver 287 miles on a full tank of fuel. She was relatively quiet, as a four-strokes usually are, with a top end sound level of only 91 dBa and cruising levels at 84-85 dBa.

If you are looking for a center console boat that is compact yet not scaled back, the all-new Vector 2200CC from Hydra-Sports presents its completion of the Vector Series with “no compromises” in this all new model.
