Nitro brought us one of its newest seventeen footers to test on Table Rock Lake in Kimberling City, MO, and we drew a lot of attention from the folks around the docks and out on the lake. This yellow and white rocket just seems to scream “look at me”. I am just glad the game warden was up in the restaurant for lunch. Although we were legal, it is still a hassle for us to be in such a fast-looking boat, just like it is for you. This fiberglass bass boat gives you a bunch of features for just a little of your hard earned dollars. Out on the test track the NX 750 performed like one of the big boys and had the casting decks to prove it.
Standard Features
A Motoguide 12-volt 43lb thrust, 42” shaft foot-controlled trolling motor is on the bow. The recessed foot control is hard mounted in the center of the bow area at the peak. Switch controls for trimming the big motor are next to the foot control with space for an optional flasher. Super Strap rod holders are on both sides up front for running rod holders. You can put one of your folding and removable casting chairs up in the middle of the bow casting deck or leave it open for easy movement.
Two large lockable lockers are in the bow for storing your gear away safely. The center box has an insulated lid with rubber keepers to hold the bow navigation light in place when not being used.
Deck Layout
The cockpit is spacious without a dual console. There’s seating for three with the outboard seats plush and standard width serve you and two buddies underway. Under the port seat, there’s insulated storage area for keeping the beverages cold and ready on a hot summer day. The step up for getting on the dock is padded to keep the finish in good shape. This seat also has a rod ramp for more running rod storage room.
At the Wheel
The helm has a smoked windshield that is screwed into place. The driver gets a cup holder to the right side and a glove box to keep the wallet and fishing license handy. All instruments are easy to read with white faces and black lettering arced over the wheel. Rocker switches for Master and Bilge are to the left of the wheel and the Navigation, Livewell and Recirculator are to the right of the wheel. A Lowrance X47 fish finder with surface temperature readout is standard on this model. Just below this is a 12-volt DC plug for keeping the portable gear charged and ready.
Moving Aft
The stern casting deck offers another spot for a casting chair in the center. The port side has a removable molded box that is lockable with a matching one over on the starboard side. In between these two boxes is a divided 28-gallon aerated and timed livewell with rounded corners and Flow-Rite aeration. This livewell uses 500 gph pumps and has a pump out system. Under the stern panel across the back is access to the batteries and other critical components for service with the stern light mounted on rubber keepers on the bottom of the hatch.
Specs
The Nitro NX 750 SC is 17’6” long and a beamy 86” wide. She carries a transom height of 22” and a hull weight of approximately 1,350 lbs. Her standard power is a 90-hp Mercury outboard, but you can boost that up to the 150 Optimax from Mercury, which our boat was equipped with. The standard package measures 23’6” with the Transom Saver and 22’6” without it. Package width is 8’3” and weight is approximately 2,325 lbs. You should have little trouble getting it in your garage and towing it with your vehicle that’s designed for towing. Of course, getting the garage cleaned out so you can park in it may be a totally different story.
Performance and Ride
When we tested this model we found she could be on plane in about 5.3 seconds and be passing thirty miles per hour in only 10.3 seconds. She cruised easily at 3500 rpms and 36.7 miles per hour and topped out at 5250 rpms or 54.7 miles per hour. At cruise she burned 7.9 gallons per hour and at top end she burned 12.4 gallons per hour. Sound levels were 73 dBa at idle, 86 dBa at cruise and 94 dBa at top end.
If you want to look like the big boy on the lake but don’t want to spend like a big boy, the Nitro 750 SC has some mighty fine standard features that make her an outstanding value in the fiberglass bass boat marketplace.
