The new Four Winns H180 OBRS comes standard with what the builder calls a "riveting black-and-lime exterior color scheme that will make your pulse race." She has comfortable seating for seven people.
Mission of the Four Winns H180 OBRS
With the new H180 OBRS Four Winns is ratcheting up the "thrill-factor" of its more conventional H180 OB with its black-and-lime-green color scheme which runs through the boat both inside and out. This, along with several added luxury features create the RS model designation. This new model compliments the H180 sterndrive and the H180 OB, which are more traditional in their approach to colors and styling and which lack those RS upmarket amenities.
The "edgy" RS color scheme and graphics extend to the cockpit and carpet. Note the bolster seat.
Major "RS" Features
The features that set the H180 OBRS apart from the H180 OB -- which runs about $1,800 less in price -- in addition to the RS gel color scheme and graphics --
●Aluminum wheels on the trailer
●Carbon fiber texture vinyl
●Pull-up stainless steel cleats
●Bolsters on the bucket seats
The low-profile, curved tinted windshield is a major feature of the RS model.
Major Features on the H180 OBRS
As we look over the standard equipment list a number of things pop out at us as being unusual as standard in this class of boat or noteworthy because of their added utility. Those items are--
●A stainless steel bow scuff plate.
●A rub rail with chrome insert
●A swim ladder that is "angled, deep-reach, with wide step pads"
●A swim platform mat
●A full "walk-across" platform around the outboard well
The H180 hull is built in the conventional hand-lay up way. She has fiberglass stringers and a full fiberglass inner liner, including the deck. The hull has a vinylester barrier coat which prevents blistering and Four Winns warrantees against that for 5 years.
The racy RS graphics are carried out from bow to stern including on the seats and upholstery. There is storage under the rear bench seat as well as under the two seats in the bow.
Power Options and Price
Four Winns offers nine engine options from three major outboard engine makers ranging from 90-hp to 150-hp. The range in pricing runs from $26, 980 for either an Evinrude two-stroke 90-hp engine or a Mercury 90-hp four-stroke. At the top end, powered with an Evinrude 150-hp engine the boat sells for $31,480 or $31,380 with a Mercury 150 OptiMax. Yamaha engines are also available in all three horsepower ranges.
Four Winns has one of the better warranty programs in class and has a limited lifetime warranty on the structural components of the hull and deck. In addition to the 5-year warranty against blistering, it also has a 1-year warranty on non-structural parts and components. There is a 1-year warranty against cracking or fading of the gel coat. The warranty is transferable.
Boaters looking for something different will want to check out the new H180 OBRS. For those preferring sterndrive power, there is an RS model in that H180 configuration as well.
Those wishing to use the boat for serious watersports will want to buy either the optional ski pylon ($615) or the towing arch with Bimini ($3,692). We would also recommend getting a 150-hp engine rather than the 90 or 115 options.
Casual boaters not planning on wakeboarding or waterskiing may be happy with the 115-hp options, but we would be careful about going as low as 90-hp, for anything more than ma-and-pa cruising.
All owners should plan on buying a cover, and while they can be found for less money in the aftermarket, we always recommend buying from the builder to make sure the fit and color scheme are correct. A "care cover" is $846 and a fore and aft cockpit cover is $608. A Bimini top is $669 .
While the RS models have exciting graphics, boaters with more conventional tastes may actually find the H180 OB or H180 (the sterndrive model) more appealing. And one of the advantages of these two models is that they come in a choice of four standard colors.
